With its muscular styling and performance, standout interior and agreeable road manners, the 2015 Dodge Durango is a great choice for a seven-passenger SUV.

If you're in the market for a seven-passenger SUV, the 2015 Dodge Durango may not be the first option that springs to mind in this very competitive segment. But we're here to tell you that this "dark horse" Dodge is indeed worthy of your attention. With its classy interior, enticing infotainment features, available V8 power and industrial-grade towing capacity, the Durango is an all-around star. Despite that workaday toughness, it's also one of the easiest vehicles of its ilk to maneuver.

Dodge made major revisions to the Durango's interior last year, and the result is a very welcoming environment. Clean, functional design and high-quality materials throughout provide an upscale ambience that not long ago would have been completely unexpected of a Dodge product. Operating the high-tech features is a breeze, too, especially when the large, intuitive 8.4-inch touchscreen is specified. Last year also marked the debut of an eight-speed automatic transmission that replaced the old six-speed, and the extra two gears make the base V6 engine a lot snappier. If you can afford it, though, the 5.7-liter V8 is still a desirable beast, especially if you'll be using your Durango to tow heavy loads.

While the 2015 Durango's various strengths are quite appealing, some other choices may better suit your particular needs. Well-regarded family crossovers like the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, 2015 Mazda CX-9 and 2015 Toyota Highlander offer considerably more maximum cargo capacity and a smoother ride over pockmarked roads. But if you like the idea of a sturdy yet comfortable family workhorse that rises above thanks to a premium vibe, the "B" rated Dodge Durango merits a long look.

The 2015 Dodge Durango large crossover SUV is available in four trim levels: SXT, Limited, R/T and Citadel. Seven-passenger seating is standard across the board, while optional second-row captain's chairs (available on all trims) reduce capacity to six.

Standard equipment on the SXT includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, heated exterior mirrors, cruise control, tri-zone automatic climate control (includes separate rear air-conditioning), a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a fold-flat front passenger seat, a 60/40-split-folding and reclining second-row seat, a 50/50-split-folding third-row seat (with power-folding headrests), Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Uconnect voice controls, a 5-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker sound system with an SD card slot and USB and auxiliary inputs.

A couple of options packages are available exclusively on the Durango SXT. The Customer Preferred Order package adds roof rails with stowable crossbars, an eight-way power driver seat with four-way lumbar, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and satellite radio. The Popular Equipment Group adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The Limited comes standard with those options and adds LED running lights, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, remote start, leather upholstery, driver memory settings, a six-way power passenger seat (with four-way lumbar), heated second-row seats, a 115-volt power outlet and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with an upgraded version of Dodge's Uconnect system that includes text-to-speech messaging capability, emergency roadside assistance, streaming Internet radio and 3G Wi-Fi capability. The larger touchscreen and related infotainment features are optional on the SXT.

Optional on both the SXT and Limited, the Rallye Appearance package deletes the roof rails and adds 20-inch black wheels and additional body-color exterior trim. Optional on the Limited is the Safety, Security and Convenience package that features automatic wipers, automatic high-beam headlight control, xenon headlights, a power-adjustable steering wheel, a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-path alert. Also offered on the Limited is a Premium package that adds 20-inch silver wheels, a power liftgate, a sunroof, a navigation system and a 10-speaker Beats by Dr. Dre audio system (late availability). The navigation system and the power liftgate are also available as a separate package.

The R/T starts with the Limited's standard features (minus the roof rails) and adds the V8 engine, 20-inch black alloy wheels (silver wheels are also available), a lowered sport-tuned suspension, Rallye-style body-color exterior trim and a sport front fascia, along with xenon headlights, power liftgate and Beats by Dr. Dre audio system. The sunroof and the navigation system are optional. A Premium Napa Leather and Convenience package adds upgraded leather seating in red (an R/T exclusive) or black with red accent stitching, extended leather trim, an eight-way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, driver memory settings and the power-adjustable steering wheel, automatic wipers and automatic high beams.

Optional on SXT, Limited and R/T is the Blacktop package, which features gloss-black 20-inch wheels, a gloss-black grille, Rallye-style body-color exterior trim and other minor blacked-out exterior trim.

The Citadel switches to a chrome grille, the regular suspension and the base V6 engine (the V8 is optional), but otherwise generally builds on the R/T's equipment list, adding as standard the automatic high beams, automatic wipers, sunroof, power-adjustable steering wheel, eight-way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, upgraded leather upholstery and a navigation system.

Optional on both the R/T and Citadel is a Technology package that adds adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert and the blind-spot monitor with rear cross-path alert. All trims except SXT offer a rear-seat Blu-ray/DVD entertainment system with dual video screens, an HDMI input for each screen and (if not already specified) eight-way power front seats with driver memory settings. Optional on all but the R/T is a skid plate package for off-road protection. All Durangos can be outfitted with a towing package that includes a heavy-duty alternator and oil cooler, load-leveling rear shocks and a full-size spare tire.

Except for the R/T, all 2015 Dodge Durango models start with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque with the standard exhaust. Dodge rates it at 295 hp with the available dual-exhaust system (Citadel trim, Rallye Appearance package or Blacktop package). The transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional on every Durango V6.

Standard on R/T and optional on the Limited and Citadel is a 5.7-liter V8 engine rated at 360 hp and 390 lb-ft. The V8 shares the V6's eight-speed automatic and similarly comes standard with RWD. Instead of the AWD system, though, it offers a more rugged on-demand 4WD system with a two-speed transfer case that features low-range gearing.

In testing, a Durango V6 with RWD accelerated to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, while one with the V6 and all-wheel drive did it in 8.1 seconds. Both are competitive times for this class.

The EPA's fuel economy estimates stand at 20 mpg combined (18 city/25 highway) for the Durango V6 with RWD and 19 mpg combined (17 city/24 highway) for the V6 with AWD. The Durango V8 drops to 17 mpg combined (14 city/23 highway) with RWD and 16 mpg combined (14 city/22 highway) with 4WD.

Properly equipped, a Durango V8 can tow up to 7,400 pounds, while the V6 version tops out at 6,200 pounds -- in either case, far more than most rivals can handle.

Antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are standard on every 2015 Dodge Durango. A rearview camera and parking sensors are optional on the SXT and standard on all other Durangos.

The 8.4-inch touchscreen includes Uconnect Access, an emergency telematics system that offers emergency assistance and stolen vehicle tracking. The Limited's Safety, Security and Convenience package gets you a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-path alert. The Technology package, available on R/T and Citadel, adds a forward collision warning system that sounds a chime and can also jerk the brakes to alert you when a collision seems imminent. If the driver doesn't respond by braking, the system will automatically apply the brakes to avoid or mitigate a collision.

In testing, a Durango Limited V6 with rear-wheel drive came to a stop from 60 mph in 124 feet, while one with all-wheel drive did it in 125 feet. Both distances are average for this segment.

In government crash tests, the Durango received four out of a possible five stars overall, with four stars for total frontal impact safety and five stars for total side-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Durango its highest score of "Good" in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof strength crash tests. The Durango's seat/head restraint design was also rated "Good" by the IIHS for whiplash protection in rear impacts, and Dodge's big SUV earned the middle "Advanced" rating for frontal crash prevention when equipped with the Technology package.

Thanks in part to its light steering effort, the 2015 Dodge Durango feels relatively maneuverable at low speeds for such a large vehicle. Unfortunately the steering remains light at higher speeds, too, which translates to a rather disconnected feeling when you're negotiating a twisting mountain road. The Durango is still as well mannered as any other SUV in these conditions, just not as confidence-inspiring as you might think given Dodge's sporty brand image.

Although the Durango is smooth and quiet at speed on the highway, we've found the ride on broken pavement to be somewhat jarring. Competitors like the Highlander and Ford Explorer are calmer when the going gets rough. When it gets really rough, however, the Durango V8 offers a true 4WD system with low-range gearing, and that's something its car-based crossover rivals can't say.

Low-end torque is not a strong suit of the V6, but once the Durango is moving, that engine pulls respectably, if rather noisily. Midrange acceleration is fine for passing and merging, and the eight-speed automatic transmission is at the ready with timely downshifts. Not surprisingly, the V8 provides more authoritative responses, along with a satisfyingly deep exhaust note when temptation gets the better of you.

Modern and functional, the 2015 Dodge Durango's cabin is a standout in this class. Regardless of trim level, the design is attractive and features upscale materials that convey uncommon elegance. It's not just the predictable soft-touch surfaces up front, either; the Durango even provides supple outboard armrests for third-row passengers, whereas its rivals typically serve up cheap hard plastic.

The 8.4-inch touchscreen display that comes standard on most Durangos is attractive and easy to use, featuring large virtual buttons and quick response times. It's one of the best interfaces on the market, and its upgraded Uconnect system provides smartphone app integration, text-to-speech capability for text messages and advanced voice controls. The gauge cluster is another highlight, with a high-resolution 7-inch configurable information display flanked by analog gauges on either side.

The Durango's front seats are roomy and comfortable, and there's plenty of support and cushioning in the second row, too, with reclining seatbacks to make the trip even better. As for the optional second-row captain's chairs, they're almost as accommodating as the front seats. Access to the third row requires a moderate squeeze past the middle seats, even with the fold-and-tumble captain's chairs, but it's no more taxing than other SUVs in this class. The third-row seats are confining for adults but well suited to smaller passengers, as is the norm in this segment.

With the second- and third-row seats folded down, the Durango can carry up to 84.5 cubic feet of cargo. This is a respectable amount, but competing large crossover SUVs like the Chevy Traverse and Mazda CX-9 offer considerably more maximum cargo space. There's plenty of room behind the second-row seats, however, with that area measuring a healthy 47.7 cubic feet.

Chrysler’s 290-horsepower Pentastar V6 seems more than adequate to move the 2015 Dodge Durango, but if you really want to feel power, the 360-horsepower Hemi V8 should do the trick. With the V6, the Durango delivers brisk acceleration, ample passing power and competent towing ability (up to 6,200 pounds with the V6 vs. 7,400 pounds with the V8). An 8-speed automatic helps the Durango maximize fuel efficiency, but with such a wide ratio we did find it hunting for the right gear at times. On the road, the Durango’s size and weight are evident, but its rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup and carefully tuned suspension make the Durango one of the sportier SUVs on the market. Ride quality is quite good on the SXT, Citadel and Limited trims, but gets a bit stiff in the R/T. Interior noise levels are quite low, and seat comfort in all three rows is admirable.

DURANGO R/TIt may not be SRT-ready, but the R/T trim comes darn close. With its lowered sport suspension, sport springs and shocks and low-profile 20-inch wheels and tires, the 2015 Durango R/T is one of the most agile SUVs in this price class. Oh yeah, it’s got a Hemi, too.ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROLThe Durango’s Adaptive Cruise Control helps minimize collisions in slower stop-and-go traffic, while at higher speeds maintains a safe distance between you and the traffic ahead. We like the Dodge system as it reduces the minimum gap to the vehicles ahead, thus reducing the chance of another driver cutting you off.

The interior of the 2015 Dodge Durango reflects luxury-car quality and craftsmanship, an update emphasizing comfort, premium materials, visual elegance and supreme quiet. Limited and Citadel trims offer such features as heated and ventilated front seats and heated 2nd-row seating. The Durango’s 28 possible configurations allow for any combination of people and cargo, from the roomy spot behind the 2nd-row seat to the full-length flat cargo floor created by the flush-folding front passenger seat. A purposeful black color scheme, highlighted by bright trim elements, distinguishes the sporty R/T, and in Durangos equipped with 2nd-row captain’s chairs a new pass-through feature eases 3rd-row access.

The Dodge Durango sports a set of LED eyeliners under the projector-beam headlights that serve as daytime running lights. There are three versions of Dodge’s familiar cross-hair grille, all styled to suit their accompanying trim. A cool LED array makes a double span across the rear end, the distinctive “racetrack taillight” display. R/T models are distinguished by more body-colored trim, as well as the R/T’s lower ride height, while others get more brightwork, especially the top-of-the-line Citadel. Wheel designs range from 18 to 20 inches.

The entry-level SXT trim features the Uconnect infotainment system with voice command, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, fog lights, heated power side mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate control, three 12-volt outlets, tilt/telescopic steering column and an AM/FM/CD radio with WMA/MP3 support, Sirius satellite radio and auxiliary input jack. At the high end of the Durango spectrum, the Citadel adds 20-inch wheels, a power liftgate, power sunroof, configurable instruments, 8.4-inch center-stack touch screen with 3D Navigation, HID headlights, Nappa leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, Rear Cross Path Detection system, heated power tilt/telescopic steering wheel and keyless Enter-N-Go.

Options vary by trim level and include a navigation radio system with 8.4-inch touch screen, voice activation and Sirius Travel Link; configurable instrumentation, power sunroof, ParkView rearview camera, ParkSense rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, auto-dimming high beams, UConnect phone (Bluetooth), Alpine premium audio, Beats by Dr. Dre audio, Bluetooth streaming audio, heated 2nd-row seats, power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, a heated steering wheel and skidplates. Option packages include the Trailer Tow Group IV that adds a 220-amp alternator, heavy-duty engine oil cooler, Class IV hitch receiver and load-leveling rear shocks. The Rallye Appearance Group adds 20-inch polished wheels, black bezel headlights and body-colored trim.

On all but the R/T trim the 2015 Dodge Durango’s standard engine is Chrysler’s award-winning Pentastar V6. Unquestionably one of the best V6 engines ever from Chrysler, it has more than enough power to satisfy most SUV drivers. Equipped with dual-overhead cams and variable-valve timing, the 3.6-liter Pentastar is capable of achieving maximum performance without sacrificing fuel economy. The Durango’s optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8 features a fuel-saver mode that seamlessly deactivates four of the eight cylinders when full power is not required. When power is needed, however, the Hemi has it in spades, delivering 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of tow-ready torque. Both engines are mated to a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD is available with either.3.6-liter V6290 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm (SXT)295 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm (Rallye and Blacktop Package, Citadel)260 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 18/25 mpg (RWD), 17/24 mpg (AWD)5.7-liter V8360 horsepower @ 5,150 rpm390 lb-ft of torque @ 4,250 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 14/23 mpg (RWD), 14/22 mpg (AWD)

For 2015, the Dodge Durango SXT has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting just under $ 31,000 for the RWD model and $ 34,000 with AWD. The Limited models start closer to $ 38,000, the V8-powered R/T around $ 40,600, and Citadel pricing, the top of the order, just a hair shy of the $ 42,000 mark. With the Hemi V8 and AWD a fully loaded Citadel tops out right around $ 50,000. These prices compare well with comparably equipped versions of the Chevrolet Traverse, Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer, none of which offers a V8 option. To get the best Durango deal, be sure to take a look at the Fair Purchase Price on to learn what buyers in your area are actually paying. As for resale, we expect the new Durango will probably hold its own against the Chevrolet Traverse, but still fall short of the Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer.

Dodge Durango Overview and History

When Dodge reintroduced the Durango in 2011, it was unlike anything seen in the SUV segment before, providing its comfortable three-row seating, driving range, power, muscular design and cargo volume.
Dodge practically patented the muscle car. Little did they know they would become one of America's top Automobile manufacturers and that the Charger model, for example, particularly the 66-67 one, would trigger jaw dropping amazement at its sight. John Francis and Horace Elgin Dodge were making bikes in 1901 when they decided to move their company, the Dodge Brothers Bicycle & Machine Factory to Detroit, Michigan.

Before Cadillac would outrun Dodge in engine development years later, the Brothers were supplying car parts for many producers. Their early involvement in the process of making cars lead them to starting their own business, entering the queue for a large order of recognition and notoriety. Setting the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company in 1914 brought them a step closer to the counter.

The first Dodge automobiles shared some of Ford Model T's features but outran the latter in terms of ignition and other improvements meant to ease driving. One of the major advantages Dodge offered was a smooth, electrical start rather than the sluggishly classic crank start. Built for the middle class, the cars quickly became a commercial success, mainly due the clever blend of reliable ruggedness, engine improvements and style elements.

By 1917, Dodge had produced enough cars to start thinking expanding in other car-manufacturing areas. Trucks seemed like something they could successfully take on and the Dodge truck division came to being. Dodge trucks were used by the US army during the First World War after which they kept being used as commercial vehicles.

The Dodge brothers sold their business to Dillon, Read & company for the astoundingly large sum of  $ 146 million, said to be the largest amount in history to have been paid at the time. Dillon helmed Dodge management only for 3 years, passing the new acquisition to the Chrysler Corporation  on July 31, 1928.

Due to Chrysler's financial conquests over some European automotive groups, such as the British Rootes group and the French Simca, Dodge is introduced to Europe in the 60's. Lightweight commercial vehicles are sold here under a different badge. The Dodge 50 series is fairly well received in the UK, becoming a favorite for military and utility operations.

1977 brought forth the collapse of Chrysler's European subsidiary and its adjacent Dodge branch altogether. The Dodge factory as well as some rights to use the Dodge name were purchased by Renault who resumed the production of Dodge's commercial vehicles. However, Renault only made use of the Dodge name till the 80's when it gave up control over the name rights. Only the factory was kept.

Dodge is currently part of the DaimlerChrysler group and has been lately been know for its trucks rather than retro-future stylized muscle cars as it used to be know for during the 60's and 70's. Much like any other American car builder, Dodge garnered huge amounts of success at the time with the launch of the Charger and Coronet models, to name only a few.

As far as the company's current status is concerned, trucks make the most sales, representing 78% of the division's venue. Still undergoing intensive promotion in Europe, Dodge have sought to reach  the same type of customer it did back in the 70's by launching a series of  mean-looking, rowdy  road-tamers such as the Nitro and Caliber.

2015 Dodge Durango Consumer Reviews

Citadel 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Absolutely love the Durango
I was looking at an Explorer when I stumbled on reviews for the Durango. I was looking for range, gas mileage, a decent towing capacity and comfort on long trips. I didn't need the extra towing capacity of the V8. I now own a Citadel with the Pentastar V6 engine and absolutely love this thing. The HIGHS: At 290 HP, the V6 feels very strong and I find it accelerates easily into freeway traffic. With a 24.5 gallon tank, I have close to 600 miles in range. I travel frequently where there are long stretches between gas stations and the extra 100-150 miles is reassuring. In city driving, with lots of stop and go, I am getting 18-20mpg with ECO mode off and 19-20 with it on, 24-26 mpg on the highway. Slightly narrower than the Explorer, so I find it very easy to park, maneuver and get it into the garage. I find the interior to be very spacious even for a large person. I also tow trailers, so the 6200lb rating beats anything out there, a V8 tows more. Cudos on the rotary shift knob. I thought I would not like this, but I have found it to be smart and intuitive - after two drives I wasn't even thinking about it. The eight speed trans shifts almost imperceptibly but has a strange shift pattern in eco mode. It delays upshifts when cold which causes some concern and delays downshifts when accelerating. I turn it off and get about 1 mpg less mileage in town but no difference on the highway. I use the paddle shifters (these are die cast, not cheap plastic) for hill work and they work very well. The interior leather is luxurious and flawless, but the color choice is limited. The seats are firm and supportive, which I find extremely comfortable but can be a bit hard on trips longer than 4 hours. The Uconnect system is frankly the smartest, easiest, most intuitive system on the market. You can customize a whole litany of things from the screen including behavior of lights, whether the horn chirps when you lock doors, whether mirrors rotate down in reverse, speed warnings, etc and the best news is that you don't need a masters degree to do it. There is also an info center on the cluster that you can select what you want displayed. The downside is the NAV system has virtually no updates available. LOWS: 1. The steering ratio requires more turns at low speed so it takes more turns of the wheel to maneuver in parking garages. 2. The pedals are not adjustable, which makes it a little more difficult to get the driving position just right. 3. There is a glitch in the audio system (which I believe FCA is working on) where the equalizer settings will change at different volume levels. 4. Cargo Volume is less than other brands and the Third row is not really suitable for adults on long trips. 5. Paint quality isn't first class - there are minor variations in color if looked at closely and orange peel that other makes do better on for this class of vehicle. 6. Lack of support on the NAV system.

Limited 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Durango Suprise
Great SUV. Really good fuel economy, nice ride, Quiet, Easy to get in and out of. Had a Tahoe and I feel more in control with the Durango although a bit smaller a great alternative. I like the road handling. For a senior, this vehicle will do all that I want and then some. Lots of room for a big guy. Would buy again! Well I liked the Durango so much, 6 months after purchase I traded it for a Citadel model with even more features and am even happier. The fuel economy just keeps getting better (25 mpg highway) and the accident avoidance feature and adaptive cruise control are the best of all. This is a keeper!!!

R/T 4dr SUV AWD (5.7L 8cyl 8A)
Best All-Round 3-Row SUV in the world!
Firstly, I'm a 'car guy'. Before I buy a car, I do three things: research, research, and research! This past spring I had a need to reduce our fleet from 3 to 2 vehicles (getting rid of an old SUV and my "toy" hot rod for a NEW SUV) so I began researching in earnest. I wanted a 3-row, mid-size SUV with a V8 & 4WD that could give me decent mileage, carry cargo with ease and up to 6 people in comfort. Also, since I was getting rid of my hot rod, I wanted at least SOME semblance or sportiness and power as well as a nice looking vehicle that would always make me turn back for a last look as I'm walking in from a parking lot. My old SUV and hot rod were both Dodges so I specifically ignored the Durango at first, fearing my pro-MOPAR bias would color my judgement. I made my list of requirements and started looking. To make a long story short, I researched Ford, Chevy, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Land Rover, Audi, BMW and, yes, even Mercedes. The Japanese don't offer V8s (except for the Nissan Armada which was otherwise terrible), the Europeans had contenders...but only if I wanted to spend $ 15-$ 50k more than I'd planned, and the other American makers only had vehicles that met my requirements if I went up to FULL size SUVs and even then their mass make them very slow and unsporty. So I finally came back to look at the Durango. It checked off EVERY item on my list except for price - it was about $ 5,000 more than I was wanting to spend, but after going for a test drive, I see where that $ 5k went. The Durango is darn near in the luxury SUV class with all the amazing bells & whistles as well as top notch safety features. The interior is AMAZING and not something I would ever have thought Dodge could produce. Bottom line: I went out and ordered my Durango R/T immediately. I took delivery back in May and, after 3000+ miles, it has been nothing short of a dream of a vehicle and pure joy to drive.

Citadel 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Refined SUV that is better than it's name
So far after about 6 months, the only complaint I have is its called a Durango, that's it. Other vehicles we own/have owned include Lexus, Toyota, and Audi. Honestly, we went into this SUV search thinking we wanted a Highlander, Lexus GX, or GMC Acadia Denali. What came out of over a year of research and test drives? There is a reason why Fiat was considering making this a Jeep and removing the Dodge badge, because, in the higher trims, this is a high-class vehicle. In the end, with the Citadel trim, and everything, black/tan interior, I just love it, love the curves, love the high-end but simple interior, the easiest to use Nav/Ent system on the market, plenty of cargo room, drives smooth, just love it. I had a guy yesterday walking in the sailing yacht club parking lot who saw me driving by slowly from the front/side ask me if that was the new Mercedes, not kidding. It really reminds me of a smooth Lexus to be honest. Our second choice was probably the Acadia Denali, with the two-tone interior which was our favorite, it seems several people we know with the Lamba line vehicles have had major repairs, didn't have the power/pull the Durango did, had less room (I'm 6'3" 250lbs, so this is important), and the nav/ent system was complicated, at best. The only drawback? Well, it says Dodge on the car. Honestly, that is what held us back. Had it been a Jeep, Toyota, Lexus....it would have been easier. Durango just doesn't align with how refined this vehicle is, especially in the upper trims. Originally, we thought we wanted the hemi, but I found the V6 to be just as fast at acceleration, but probably less torque, so if you pull trailers a lot, go with the hemi, but if you are like me, and only do it 3 times a year ,the V6 is more than adequate.
frarchedalfred,
Update on my last review
This is a update on my last review on my 2015 Durango Ltd. I have had the hood replaced under warranty, because of corrosion, a small rust spot on one side was taking place under the paint. I think this must be a Chrysler problem because my son bought a new Avenger and the hood rusted very badly, Chrysler would not replace it, they insisted it had been damaged and been repainted, this was not so as he had the car from new. Apart from the corrosion the Durango has been trouble free.
silverhelpless,
Mid size SUV with plenty of room
The Durango never gets good press, I can't see why, Never mentioned in consumer reports.I have owned my limited for four years , and never had any problem, it is very comfortable and has all the gadgets I need. On a trip 25mpg is easy to obtain. Six captains (bucket) seats, the back four fold flat to give all the carry sq footage I need. The trade in value seems to be down on makes.
vireodrove,
LOVE my Citadel
I had a much more expensive vehicle before—an Infiniti M37X. The Citadel is more comfortable to drive and as a passenger. I have a long list of things I didn’t like about the Infiniti—including the fact that purchased new, and babied by a little old lady, had complete engine failure at 40,000 miles. They wouldn’t honor the guarantee, saying it was abused, yet this Citadel has been SO dependable, it’s a quiet ride (unlike Infiniti) and SO versatile. I can flatten down the seats and haul whatever, or put a mattress in back for a resting passenger on long road trips. Love, love love this car, and I’ve had new company cars (mostly Cadillacs) for years. I added a little chrome to dress it up. Good field of vision when driving too.
metacarpalwham,
very comfortable with good oomph
Underrated. Never had a major issue. Have had a Camry, an Outlook, a forester. This is hands down the most comfortable and stylish. The rear wheel drive platform makes it sporty and on demand AWD has always worked in the snow. I know kbb doesn't wanna kniw this, but if Dodge has an Achilles heel its the dealership. Luckily a found a decent one for service. Creature comforts are the perfect blend. Soft touch materials. Some fading of the race track rear LEDs, and fuel door issues. And that all. Fuel economy between 21 and 24 combined with the V6.
monkbrunnich,
A rolling isolation booth
My wife and I spent 8 months looking for a SUV. Drove every SUV from that year. I own a 700 dollar dosimeter for sound. No vechicle was as quiet as the durango Zero. 75,000 trouble free miles (V6) LIMITED EDITION. I added running boards and a hood low profile bug shield. Love the race track led brake lights. I had owned dozens of vechicles in my 55 years. This is the best one We have ever owned. Got 30 MPG . Highway 25.7 400 miles going on a road trip all through Florida 60 average mpg. You will not go wrong with this SUV.
reiteratewade,
Love driving my Citadel!
First off, I was only looking for a Ford Explorer, Dodge was not on my radar... we test drove several 3rd row suvs and I have always preferred fully loaded vehicles, I was after the room more than options and with a budget in the mid-20’s I realized quickly I couldn’t not have a larger suv and all my options... then I drove the Durango Citadel! My complaint with the explorer was the pick up, but no complaints with the dodge Hemi in this vehicle!!! It is absolutely the most fun vehicle I have ever owned!! Captain chairs with console, dvd system, safety features I won’t bother to mention them all! sunroof (that can actually be open on the interstate at 75mph without loud wind noise) unlike my Ford Edge, comfortable seats, heated and cooled!! I have never been a dodge fan but I’m absolutely in love with my Citadel! I would recommend test driving this Durango before purchasing any other suv if you are after a tough looking SUV that gets better gas mileage than a Tahoe and has the pickup of a charger and so many options I can’t list them all and my kids love the seating and dvd system AND did I mention the Beats Audio SYSTEM!!! This is an awesome SUV priced very fair and drives so smooth you will be sad when you reach your driveway!
leaderscab,
Handling is superior
I’ve had 0 zero problems with my Durango V6. Great road hugging ride. I have owned for 3 years and only dealer visit was software update. I would recommend to anyone who likes 50-50 balance RWD performance type SUV.
yardgone,
Extremely smooth. Great in snow.
Has had it for almost 2 years. Great in every weather. Drives smaller than it looks. Pleasing acceleration with the V6. The 8 speed is seamless. I have gotten 22 to 25 in mixed driving consistently. Except for a fuel door issues has been extremely reliable. Had factoryr side steps installed for my moms ease of ingress. A nugget is the dodge standard rechargeable flashlight in the cargo area.
raspdairy,
great truck
not as massive as a tahoe, bigger than explorer its a perfect fit. you also still get v8 power and rwd. great at towing and mild off roading yet its smooth and quiet on highway. beats speakers are just ok. 3rd row can fit adults, tahoe cant. trucks been reliable, only had one problem. everyone who gets in it loves it. durangos have come such a long way. in 07 when i bought my tahoe i wouldent had even looked at the durango but now i chose it over the tahoe. if you are looking for a big suv that fits your family and can tow your boat, skip the new tahoe and get a durango.

BEST SUV I HAVE EVER OWNED.
I PURCHASED THE V6 LIMITED. I HAVE WANTED ONE FOR A FEW YEARS NOW AND FINALLY BROKE DOWN AND BOUGHT ONE. BEST PURCHASE I HAVE EVER MADE. I AM A DODGE GIRL FROM NOW ON. SORRY CHEVY!!!

Worst Purchase Ever
Not worth what I paid for it. Had it for a year and I'm currently searching for a way to get rid of it. I'm unhappy with the quality and overestimated exactly how big it really is. I regret this purchase.

2015 Dodge Durango Citadel 6 cylinder
The Durango is generally an excellent large SUV. The high points: excellent gas mileage for such a large vehicle (our experience in mixed driving is 19-23 mpg), control and handling on icy roads is excellent, it provides a soft and quite road on the highway, seats are comfortable, power is adequate, the front screen is larger than its competitors, UConnect system is generally good, stereo is good except for a flaw in the programming mentioned below. Lows: The soft ride can be uncomfortable in mountain driving-too much body roll, the programming of the stereo volume is flawed - if you turn the level to less than 10 the sound is all bass with no treble, auto headlight diming works poorly, limited storage space in the front for nick-nacks, voice module does not always work as well as it should. Grade B+/A-
conclusiongigabyte,
Well designed, well built
The Durango is a very capable vehicle. The 8 speed auto shifts smoothly but the rotary dial takes some time to get used to. Full time/automatic AWD, so if you want to choose then you should get the Grand Cherokee. Impressive highway fuel mileage (26 mpg observed) but it drops off quick in the city. Still not bad though. The race track tail lights are cool. The reconfigurable dash is also pretty unique.
eraseavoid,
Man, This Durango is a Rock Star on steroids.
The X frame is balanced ,durable and the long wheel base gives a smooth ride. 3.6 Pentastar V6 is quick and smooth. 20 MPG on average for this aggressive driver. The tech package w/ 8.2 Uconnect is well though out and intuitive. Dial 8 speed ZF tranny is much more convenient to operate the console shifter I had before in my Ford Expy. Durango is comfortable to haul a lotta cargo and family. Styling is modern and timeless to me.
revealoffended,
Really surprised me!
I looked at the Durango, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and GMC Acadia. I ended up coming back to the Durango which I originally wasn't even going to consider. Not sure why Kelly gave such a bad review when everyone else gave it high grades across the board. Really well put together from the interior trim to it's drivability. Nice open feel. If you take a serious look and not think "oh it's American made" it will win you over. Has a bit more of a muscular feel while being just as, or more, comfortable as any in its class. Love this SUV.
stickssnaking,
Not Too Shabby
So i recently bought a 2015 Durango 3.6L V6 has the black top trim. So far my vehicle has given me no problems, the only issue i have with this vehicle so far is that the dealership tells me to change the oil at 10,000 miles. I don't really trust that so i did one with about %50 oil life left. With it being the V6 I am impressed with the acceleration even weighing about 5500 lbs. I recently put in a K&N cold air intake(still have stock for warranty purposes down the road). The cold air intake gives it more torque and horsepower. Some may say i drive like an A**hole so even driving it like i do not a single problem mechanically. It handles like a sports car through the windy road in the mountains, haven't slipped at all and i have pushed it to the limit. Driving normal with the intake gets about 28 MPG highway and 22 MPG city worth the purchase. Car looks and drives great overall.

Great SUV
completed 3 trips from Chicago to Florida. Love driving this SUV. Tested others and the Dodge came out on top.

2015 Dodge Durango Limited With Premium Package
Recently in the market for A new 7 seater SUV some of the vehicles we looked at were the Acura MDX,Audi q7 Lexus GX, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Ford Explorer, Chevy Tahoe, and Honda Pilot (2016). There is not a single bad car in that groop and I recommend that you look at all of them if you're shopping for a 7 seater SUV. The Durango and Acura made the final 2 and we chose Durango for practically and what you get for your money. The Durango drives wonderfully. You'll notice it actually handles quite nicely while keeping A smooth ride. Note that with the new 8 speed auto tranny the v6 is not slow anymore like the 2011-2013 was without the hemi. Reliably so far has been fine and shows no sighs of problems as it should only having 3,000 miles. Before buying I looked back to 2011 when the Durango was introduced and overall I expect reliability to be adverge. The design is visually stunning and ergonomically correct wich is just as important. Especially the u connect wich is fabulous. Quality of the interior shows no signs of the old cheep Chrysler with is good, however, the exterior has a little ways to go. I noticed that the hood and left fender don't line up and the driver door does not close as flush with the body as it should. Comfort is awesome with big front seats and roomy second and third rows. The ride on my 20 in polished aluminum wheels can be a bit choppy, but that's a sacrifice you make with bigger wheels. Quietness on the highway is also up to par. Convenience is great espicely with the smart key. Remote start and power lift gate is something I can't live without now that I have it. Some last notes are that if you are looking at the Durango limited, I strongly recommend going for the premium package. It adds so much like navigation, power lift gate, sunroof and the great beats audio system. It also adds the 20in wheels that transform how the car looks. Overall it's definitely worth a look and makes for a great buy!

Best Vehicle Owned to date 2011 Crew/Hemi/AWD
Super ride and power. Mileage is a little less with the hemi but good on highway with 4 cylinder eco on. At 60,000 miles I am amazed at how tight the vehicle still is. I didn't think much of Dodge before this vehicle. I'm glad I watched those commercials they had in 2011 bragging about the "european" handling. I thought it was likely an exaggeration. I was wrong! This is the best vehicle I've ever owned.
appraisersquash,
More bang for your buck.
Im in my mid 30's and needed a "family" car. I didn't want a big ole SUV. The new 2015 Durango design was what drew me in. I got the SXT Rallye blacktop edition I like how it looks mean but gentle enough for my little princess to ride in. The fuel is great on this. I took it on a mini road trip the ride is smooth as butter as one of my passengers stated at high speeds. The interior is great love all of it. Cons.... I wished my SXT Rallye black top would of came with Standard Nav installed, power liftgate, and I really needed a back up camera. But other than that its an awesome SUV.
halldomino,
Exciting
Very simply put. I wanted a Dodge Charger R/T but my practical side said in the North East I still need a hefty SUV. This vehicle has given me a taste of both worlds. It is fun to drive with its racy feel and it is practical when I need it to be. I am 6'5" and I am surprisingly having a slight problem with my right leg, I either could use a little more back tilt on the seat or about one more inch leg room. A small price to pay for a very exciting to drive vehicle.

Durango Citidal
My first dodge vehicle. Did'nt ever think I would have one cause I am a chevy guy. This suv has greatly exceeded my expectations! The durango citidal is awesome. I only have driven it about 350 miles and is in love with it so far. Quiet, very upscale interior, and the sound system sounds veryyyy good. It has plenty power with the V6. I had narrowed my choices to this and the acura mdx. I choose durango cause it just looks soo much better to me.

2020 Dodge Durango
"great build quality"
Just got a 2020 Durango SXT V6 RWD . Build quality initially is exceptional . Interior is great . Love the configurable dashboard where you can have a analog speedo or a digital speed . Also can transmission temp , oil temp , oil pressure and other parameters . Even the base radio sounds great with 6 Alpine speakers for the base radio . It is quiet and the V6 has more than enough guts to move this vehicle . If anyone says the V6 doesnt have enough power they are full of it . The ZF designed 8 speed auto shifts seamlessly to the point you can barely feel it . Very comfortable ride . It is a long car so you have to pay attention backing it up . Handles great for a bigger vehicle and the steering has 3 different selectable modes. It has little lights in all the cubby holes and even in the glovebox which is rare these days . Lighted cupholders in the front . The paint job is perfect and looks great in In-Violet . The thing left is the long term reliability, that remains to be seen . Fingers crossed !
