2018 Lexus LS Used Price Estimates

Estimates based on a driving average of 12,000 miles per year

Driving the new LS is a more engaging experience than in the past, yet the ride remains comfortable. The LS 500's 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 has more horsepower and torque than the V8 it replaces, and makes the LS plenty quick from a stop. It's backed by a wonderfully smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. With Drive Mode Select in Sport+ mode, suspension and engine and transmission response become more aggressive. For those who prefer to stay on the comfort side of the equation, adjustable air suspension is available for a pleasant highway ride. The LS 500 F Sport doesn't offer more power, but has a firmer ride, quick transmission shifts and feels more agile than the LS 500. Its excellent brakes are strong but not jarring. The LS 500h hybrid, with 354 total system horsepower, is almost as quick as the LS 500, with the added bonus of better fuel economy.

SUMPTUOUS INTERIORThe stylish cabin offers tastefully crafted seats inspired by comfortable armchairs, and rich materials throughout. Design cues were inspired by traditional Japanese artisanship, and there are plenty of high-tech amenities. Options include Shiatsu-inspired seat massagers, 28-way-power seats, a reclining rear seat with ottoman, and 23-speaker audio.HYBRID POWERTRAINThe LS 500h's powertrain puts out 354 total system horsepower. It offers a seemingly impossible combination of speed -- reaching 60 mph from a stop in 5.1 seconds -- and excellent fuel economy. Lexus estimates the LS 500h will get combined fuel economy as good as 28 mpg.

Always known for its high-quality, well-crafted interiors, Lexus adds modern lines and traditional Japanese artisanship to the equation. There are unique touches, such as available Kiriko-cut glass and origami-inspired cloth panels on the doors. We preferred the beautiful wood accents instead of the glass. Want to be enveloped in luxury? Enjoy the 23-speaker audio, 28-way-power seats, Shiatsu-inspired seat massagers and a reclining rear seat with ottoman. A touch pad accesses some of the car's technology. It isn’t the most intuitive system, but is worth learning, as there are plenty of appealing features there.

The Lexus LS has the most expressive styling of any LS to date, and has a newfound attitude. There's a large spindle grille up front -- a design element that's not for everyone -- flanked by jagged, angular headlights. Along the sides, the sharp angles are overtaken by smooth curves. There are design cues that would seem to contradict each other, but end up working well together. The car is longer, lower and wider than the previous LS, dimensions that put its size within a half-inch of its BMW and Mercedes-Benz competition.

An all-new 416-horsepower twin-turbo V6 with more horsepower and torque than the V8 it replaces bows in the new LS 500. It's controlled by a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The LS 500 comes as a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) car with 19-inch wheels. All LS sedans give you the ability to choose among Eco, Comfort and Sport drive modes. Inside, the Lexus uses a touch pad to access navigation and more, and there's Active Noise Control to keep the interior quiet. The extensive Lexus Safety System+ is standard, which includes pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alert and adaptive cruise control.

The optional hybrid powertrain has plenty of power plus improved fuel economy. Another choice for LS buyers is the F Sport. While it doesn't offer an increase in horsepower or torque, it adds larger brakes and wheels. Adjustable air suspension and all-wheel drive are available on all LS models. The Executive Package includes 28-way-adjustable seats, seat massagers and a reclining rear seat with an ottoman. Adding the Advanced Package to the standard safety suite provides pedestrian alert, active steering assist and front cross-traffic alert. The interior is available with Kiriko glass accents and pleated panels inspired by origami.

There are two powertrain choices with the LS: The LS 500 is powered by a twin-turbo V6 backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission. Horsepower and torque are higher than last year, and the torque is easier to access. The LS 500h uses an Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 and two electric motors, which put out 354 total system horsepower. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is matched with a 4-speed automatic gear set, a setup designed to deliver the feel of a 10-speed automatic, with more feedback than you find in a more straightforward CVT. This transmission does offer more feedback, but at times the shifts feel artificial.3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 416 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm 442 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600-4,800 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/30 mpg (RWD), 18/27 mpg (AWD)3.5-liter Atkinson cycle V6 + 2 electric motors 354 total system horsepower EPA city/highway fuel economy: 25/33 mpg (RWD), 23/31 mpg (AWD)

The 2018 Lexus LS 500 has a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $ 75,995 (including $ 995 destination). That’s about $ 2,500 more than last year’s regular-wheelbase LS, but nearly $ 4,000 less than the starting price of the long-wheelbase LS 460 – and the 2018 LS has a lot more features and amenities. The hybrid LS 500h starts at $ 80,505. The LS follows the Lexus philosophy of offering content- and feature-heavy cars for a lower price. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class starts at over $ 90,000 and the BMW 7 Series starts at $ 84,000. BMW’s 740e xDrive plug-in hybrid starts at nearly $ 92,000, and pricing hasn’t yet been announced for Mercedes’ upcoming S560e plug-in hybrid. Lexus LS Overview and History

In 2017, the Lexus LS got renewed getting in line with the automaker's latest design language and technology.
If American car-manufacturer heads had been warned about a Japanese take-over in the mid 80's, they would have almost certainly laughed at the prospect. Humorous or not, the Japanese did conquer US, not through mecha led wars but rather through anime and cars. However, before the mild-assault began, there were a series of weird meetings held in secrecy in chairman chambers.

Such a meeting was held in 1983 between Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda and his company executives. Toyoda had not invited his enforcers over for cookies and tea but to question them about the possibility of developing a luxury-car line that could successfully compete with American brands. The project was labeled as F1 -Flahship 1- and proved to be a most lucrative  endeavor. The result was a vehicle that later became known as the Lexus LS 400 prior to its US premier.

The LS 400 was not just a car that took time and resources to built. In researching American luxury-product consumer habits and lifestyles, the Japanese went as far as renting a house in Laguna beach in order to observe their “subjects” closely. Offspring of long-gestating consumer research and cutting-edge engineering, the LX 400 was a hit.

Endorsed by insightful advertising, the LS 400 made its entrance at the North American Auto Show in Detroit, 1989 where it was one of the main attractions. And how could it not have been after 24 engineering teams and a few thousands employees worked on 450 prototypes at the cost of a paltry $ 1 billion investment?

The main advantage Lexus had over Acura, that had reached US markets 3 years before, was its uniqueness. Unlike the first Acura models which were sold as rebadged Hondas, the Lexus held little connections to Toyota design patterns.

Silent, ergonomic, powerful and reliable, the LS became a fierce competitor for European imports such as Mercedes Benz and BMW, whose sales drastically dropped following Lexus' trumpeting market entrance.

Models like the ES 250 followed which along the LS registered enough sales to allow the brand expanding through an 81-dealership network. During those first years of sales, Lexus became the top-selling luxury car in the U.S. Things were going smoothly for the Japanese manufacturer, just like its cars, and in 1991, two new models were released: the SC400 coupe and the ES 300 sedan. The latter was marketed as a replacement for the ES 250 and quickly became the company's best selling sedan.

Following the release of a heir to the LS 400 and the Toyota Aristo-based series of the GS, Lexus entered the sport utility vehicle segment in 1996 with the launch of the LX 450, a large car based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100. By 1998, Lexus would release the RX, a top-selling crossover based on Toyota's Camry model as well as a new series of the GS. During the following years, further technological improvements such as the introduction of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system on the 2005 RX 400h, resulted in an even greater sales increase.

Things were so good for Lexus that it has constantly grown since its inception. The brand has been introduced to the Japanese home-market in 2005 as well as it has in other regions of Asia and South America as well as Australia and Europe. By 2007, Lexus had spread in over 50 countries and it continues to grow. The company's “pursuit of perfection” is fronted by its current line-up, comprised of the IS, LS and RX series among others as well as the avant-garde LF-A concepts.

I wish this come with 8 cylinder engine
I have owned three older LS models. 8 Cylinder engine give more stability than this 6 cylinder.
kittzero,
You would rather be in the rear seat
This is the first car I've ever owned that the rear seats are more comfortable than the front. Gobs of rear legroom. Power and fuel economy are outstanding for a vehicle this size. This is a VERY nice car. I regret not getting the air ride suspension as the run flat tires ride a little rougher than I expected. My only other complaint is on hot summer days the drivers seat does not cool adequately and I find myself turning sideways to get comfortable.
reformatpitch,
This is the most successful car I've ever had.
This is my fourth car in this LS model and the most successful
fridaytribune,
A VERY nice car
This is my 3rd LS and first LS500. The V-6 has plenty of power with excellent low end torque and fuel economy. I wished I would have sprung for the air suspension as the run flat tires are a little hard and convey road bumps. This is a very large car and the back passengers have all kinds of room. Typical Lexus quality.
dryeastward,
Fair at best
I have had the gas cap door replaced twice. Fails after a few months. I have taken this car for service several times complaining about a clunky transmission. The car hesitates from a stop especially if you have the steering wheel turned.
monkbrunnich,
Not what I expected in a Lexus
The ride is on the harsh side. The sound system lacks a quality sound and there is an acceleration lull when the accelerator is depressed.
