All 2013 Bentley Continental models have the power to blast their considerable mass from 0 to 60 mph in the 4-second range and hit top speeds of nearly 200 mph or, in the case of Speed models, beyond. These are sports-car figures, but Continentals are not necessarily sports cars. A hushed, comfortable ride takes priority over racecar-like agility. Driving a Continental is meant to be an experience in elegant motoring. These cars just happen to also have the means to blow past lesser cars – which is most every car – when duty calls. The Continental’s all-wheel-drive system provides excellent grip in slippery conditions, and the newer 8-speed ZF automatic transmission is smooth, especially in sport mode. On open roads, the 2013 Bentley Continental is bliss. Parking lots are another matter, especially for the coupe models and convertibles with the top raised. These cars’ beautifully sloped roofs compromise rear visibility, which can make backing up your $ 200,000 vehicle dicey. Spend extra and get the rearview camera.
NAIM AUDIOUnless you're an audiophile, Naim may not be a familiar name to you. After hearing what this British audio brand serves up in its components tailored for Bentley vehicles, you'll never forget it. These available ultra-premium sound systems turn the cabin into an auditorium for musical bliss.INTERIOR FIT AND FINISHEvery knob, every surface and, well, just about everything you come into contact with in a Bentley Continental speaks a tactile language all its own. It's a language of nobility and opulence. For proof, nothing more is needed than a press of the sturdy metal ventilation buttons.
If you've ever wondered what sets a $ 200,000 vehicle apart from a $ 20,000 vehicle, step inside a 2013 Bentley Continental. The fit and finish are nearly without peer. The interior is leather, of course. But it's not just any leather. Only the finest, most premium and most blemish-free hides are selected. Metal and wood abound. Everything breathes quality, from the Breitling analog clock in the center stack to the diamond-pattern hide on the interior door panels. The two rear seats in the GT and GTC are tight for adults. The Flying Spur's bench offers more room and heating/massaging function for the outer seats, just like those in front, and can be configured with two individual seats.
Some cars are described as having "presence," an essence that exceeds mere physical size. The 2013 Bentley Continental abounds in it. Even the Bentley GT coupe and GTC convertible, at less than 190 inches in length – slightly shorter than a Honda Accord sedan – possess this trait. These two are the real lookers of the Continental lineup with their muscular curves that run front to back, defined best in their exaggerated rear haunches where the sloping roof and sides intersect. The Flying Spur sedan shares the big quad headlights up front but is statelier and much longer overall. At over 208 inches in length, this is not a small car by any means.
Needless to say, every Bentley is exceedingly well equipped. Some of the more prominent features include a high-resolution touchscreen command center with navigation, massive 20-inch wheels, bi-xenon projector headlights, an 8-speaker sound system, and a power trunk (or "boot," as it's called across the Pond). GTC convertibles have a power-operated 4-layer insulated roof. Speed models have a more powerful version of Bentley's already-potent 12-cylinder engine. Though parking sensors are standard, surprisingly, a rear-view camera is not. That’s a shame on a car costing as much as a house, and is a feature highly advised especially on 2-door models with their compromised rear visibility.
Aside from the much-advised rearview camera, other options of note include the premium Naim audio system, an iPod interface, heated steering wheel, radar-based adaptive cruise control, carbon-ceramic brakes, and lambswool rugs. GT and GTC models can be equipped with 21-inch alloy wheels. We're quite fond of the electronically adjustable neck warmer in the convertible models, perfect for those cool nights when you want to cruise top down under starry skies.
Power for all 2013 Bentley Continentals, save the GT V8 and GTC V8, comes from a twin-turbocharged W12 engine mated to either a 6-speed or 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The twin-turbocharged V8 is a powerhouse in its own right, making 500 horsepower and offering improved fuel economy compared with the 12-cylinder engines. All Bentley Continentals feature all-wheel drive, which enhances traction. The 8-speed transmission found in the fresher GT and GTC models helps fuel economy, but every model except the V8 Continental GT coupe is still subject to a gas guzzler tax. The Continental is also E85-compatible.2013 Bentley Continental GT and GTC V84.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8500 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm487 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700 rpmEPA city/high fuel economy: 15/24 mpg (GT), 14/24 mpg (GTC)2013 Bentley Continental GT and GTC6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12567 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm516 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 13/20 mpg (GT), 12/20 mpg (GTC)2013 Bentley Continental GT Speed and GTC Speed6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12616 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm590 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 13/20 mpg (GT) 12/20 mpg (GTC)2013 Bentley Continental Flying Spur 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12552 horsepower @ 6,100 rpm479 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600-6,100 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 11/19 mpg 2013 Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12600 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm553 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700-5,600 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 10/17 mpg
Regardless of which 2013 Bentley Continental you choose, be prepared to write a sizable check. The least expensive model in the 2013 Continental line – the GT V8 – has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of just under $ 177,000. The GTC V8 convertible starts at over $ 194,000, and the Flying Spur sedan at around $ 187,000. The higher-powered Speed version of each adds tens of thousands of dollars. Options can also easily add tens of thousands of dollars, with some single packages costing as much as a new economy car. At these prices the Bentley Continental is less expensive than the Rolls-Royce Ghost, which starts around $ 260,000, but higher than just about everything else in it class except some AMG performance editions of the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class and S-Class models. Normally we'd suggest you take a hard look at the Fair Purchase Price before buying, but we doubt many buyers will be haggling when it comes to their Continental. As such a niche vehicle, precise resale values are difficult to predict for the 2013 Bentley Continental.
When launched, the new Continental GT Speed became the first production model from Bentley to break the 200 mph barrier (202 mph).
The definition of luxury may have nothing to do with the streets but, paradoxically, it can be seen roaming through some of the least expected places, rims glimmering, wood and chrome finished steel bulk rolling silently through concrete labyrinth passage ways. It's an automobile that goes great with yachts and French Riviera vacations as well as New Zealand wool pin stripe suits and finely designed porcelain buttons embedded in solid gold.
Bentley has been a provider of quality stand-out privileged social and financial statement-vehicles since 1919. Founded by Walter Owen Bentley (1888-1971), Bentley Motors has grown into a world leading car-maker and also a symbol of Great Britain, as well as sole provider of wheels for the Queen through the 2002 released State Limousine.
The company's founder had primarily been known for designing and making reliable rotary engines that were fitted on aircraft during World War I, before successfully entering the auto-world. Before becoming notorious with the Bentley BR1 aero-engine during the war, Bentley had been in partnership with his brother H.M., selling French D.F.P. cars. It was during those times that he thought of establishing his own car-making business.
Soon after Bentley Motors was formed in January, 1919, the company was "allowing" Walter Owen to exhibit a chassis with an engine replica at the London Motor Show. The design was a success and the orders poured in. However, the company was unable to carry the deliveries out in time, with the first cars being ready for shipping only in September 1921, one year later than initially estimated.
Although, it had a lot of fans and enjoyed great value on the UK market, the company suffered a fate similar to that of Aston Martin, undergoing several ownership changes and financial trouble. Fortunately enough, its allies were constantly on the look-out and possessed vast riches that they used to keep Bentley on track.
Bentley was acquired by millionaire and 'Bentley Boy' enthusiast Wolf Barnato, who became the new owner of the company in 1925. Despite the steady cash flow that was used to stop Bentley Motors from sinking, the Great Depression wiped clean any desire for expensive automobiles, leaving Bentley poor and disoriented.
This time, help would come from giants from Rolls Royce, who bought the work shop in 1931. Thanks to the 'Bentley Boys', the marque managed to stay afloat and gained racing acclaim, with Barnato participating in the Le Train Bleu race (he drove in traffic from Cannes to Calais and finished first). Consequently, the model became known as the Blue Train Bentley. Moreover, further victories would be obtained by Bentley in the famous endurance race 24 hours of le Mans, the British carmaker emerging victorious for four consecutive times, between 1927 and 1930.
Until entering under the Rolls Royce tutelage, Bentley fitted a variety of engines on their cars: from the classic 3L and 4.5 Blower Bentley engine to the 6L or massive 8L mechanical heart in the 30's. Before parting ways with the Rolls Royce parent company in 1998 and moving to VW grounds, Bentley had greatly improved their offers and technological improvements, especially after becoming a separate car line again during the 80's. Models such as the type R, S and Continental represented only a small fraction of what would come in the following years. Later models included the beautiful Azure convertible, the Turbos Sport R and S models and the competitive Brooklands.
Starting with 1998, German carmaker VW Group took over as Bentley's parent company in a profitable partnership with BMW. The agreement between the two parts stated that VW would make both Bentley and Rolls Royce cars until 2002, when the rights to manufacture Rolls Royce vehicles would pass entirely to BMW. Until 2003, BMW was a constant supplier of engines for both car lines. Soon after BMW's withdrawal, the company launched a new model that would become even more popular than the Azure: the Continental GT. In fact, demands were so numerous that Bentley was reacquainted with the situation form the 20's, when it was unable to meet demands. The latest models from the British carmaker include the 2005 Continental Flying Spur saloon, the 2006 Azure convertible and it's Continental GT counterpart, and the 2008 Brooklands and GT Speed Coupe.

"This is the best luxury car i have ever owned."
This model is one of the first batch of GTCs shipped to Florida for their introduction in 2007
They received numerous inspections at the factory in the UK befitting a dramatic and spectacular new model. Most of the shipment were in the colors considered the most
outstanding, namely Silver Lake(light metallic blue) exterior with Saffron hide interior.
This Car has the very comprehensive specification of these Show Models, plus the
addition of 22inch diameter chrome/silver lake wheels. It has had the benefit of an average of less than 2200miles per year plus the enhancement of entry in Concours de Elegance events which entails continued attention both inside & outside. It is immaculate.

"4-door FLYING SPUR FLIES"
Bought it used. I have had it for one year and have put on about 8000 miles. Traded in a used Bentley I bought 20 years ago. This car is much different. The W-12 is super fast. Well-appointed. Huge back seat. Deceptive as it looks slow but is wicked fast. W-12. Twin Turbo.AWD
Solid colors are nice, but two-tone colors on these cars make them look awesome. New they are out-of-reach , but used, very affordable. Maintenance? Find yourself a good independent mechanic that knows the cars (whether they are Bentley, Rolls-Royce, etc) These cars are built to last. Just do the oil changes when they are due, change tires, brakes, etc. When you buy a used car that will last you 20+ years, you come out way ahead.Read less
