My first window broke about 6 months ago. My second one 3 weeks ago and tonight a third. Can cadillac be responsible and can they be made to take care of these costs?

Yesterday, (09/23/13), my 3rd window reg. Broke since March 24th of this year! First RF then a couple mos later, LR. Then yesterday, LF. I am extremely unhappy with the lousy quality products Cadillac is using! My parents always had Cadillac's and I couldn't wait to own one for myself. I couldn't aford a brand new one at present so I oppted for a 2005 deville last year mainly because it was still a large body style and the fact that my parents never had much trouble with all the ones they'ed had. I was so excited to finally own my very own Caddy. However, I can't aford to continue to fork out $ 500.00 every time these window regs go out, which is very often according to my experience, other owners I've talked to, and more importantly, the local Cadillac service manager where I have all my work done. I'm an aging single lady with handicaps and these regs going out whenever without warning is a real security issue to me. I too completely feel Cadillac is responsible for using inferrior plastic against metal in these regs. GM/Cadillac should pony up and recall these window regs and issue an apology to the public for using substandard and faulty products on an expensive luxury car! After all, isn't this why people buy Cadillac's... For the luxury, comfort, quality & security! I hope someone from GM monitors this board and others like it to get a small idea of how much potential new car business they are throwing away by not addressing this issue!

I got the car certified used with just under 30k miles. The drivers window regulator (WR) broke soon after and I got it repaired under warranty. But then I moved to a location where a Caddy dealer wasn't conveniently near by and within about a 2 month period, all of the regulators broke. I used duct tape for a while before I decided to repair myself. I knew the plastic part was weak and I didn't want to buy another since it would have the same weak plastic part. My first method of repair was use of fishing line weights on both sides of the bracket and solder them in place. That worked ok, but within 2 months it started to slide. My final method is more secure, by using two short screws, nuts with a washer that has a rubber ring on one side. I think I had to drill a one or two holes and break a little of the weak plastic to mount it securely. I made the repair to all of the windows and it's been about 16 months and they are still working fine. The screws need to be short enough to not get stuck in the track or snagged on any other parts. Also, make sure you disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, or you could break the door module and that's about $ 170 to replace. I know it's a common problem with Devilles in this time period so I wanted to post the method. It takes some time, patients and you can't be afraid of making small modifications to the bracket. I'm currently trying to resolve two other issues one related to my heated/air cooled seats and engine acting like I have water in the gas.

I've had three failures, first cost $ 350 the last $ 525. They told me all three were due to a plastic wheel splitting but you cannot buy just the wheel you must buy the entire assembly.

Driver window regulator failed; replaced for $ 450; not dealer. Soon after front passenger window dropped into door, regulator failed; replaced for $ 450; not dealer; told how lucky I was the window did not break as would have been another $ 700. Now passenger rear window regulator is broke too at 90,000 miles. Found one on ebay for $ 41.00 w/free shipping; afterwards found same for $ 22.98 at partsgeek, looks genuine. Seems like Cadillac should issue a recall on these defective parts. I was 'lucky' the window fell down when it was not dangerous to do so and even luckier it did not break. I have been a loyal Cadillac customer for over 10 years but next time I purchase I will definitely consider an alternative vehicle.
