The 2017 Chrysler 300 is a family sedan that does more than get you from point A to point B. It's big, American and unapologetically bold. But more than just being physically imposing (thanks to features such as its massive grille and wide, boxy dimensions), the 300 is comfortable, quiet and equipped with all sorts of modern tech.

What makes the 2017 Chrysler 300 unique is that it's a four-door sedan with visceral and practical appeal. The rumble of the optional V8 engine, the practicality of available all-wheel drive and the smooth highway ride all make the 300 a good car by more than just objective standards. What's more, it's a car that makes the daily commute easier by shutting out noise and bumpy roads. Even if you don't particularly like the 300's styling, being isolated from the outside world while you cruise down the highway is enough to make it worth a look.

The 2017 Chrysler 300 is a full-size sedan available in four different trim levels: 300 Limited, 300S, 300C and 300C Platinum. Regardless of trim level, the 2017 Chrysler 300 comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 (292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft). That same engine makes a bit more power in the 300S (300 hp and 264 lb-ft). An eight-speed automatic is standard, as is rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional.

Even if you go with the base 300 Limited, there is a lot of standard equipment. You get features such as heated mirrors, a rearview camera, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated power front seats and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. On the inside, tech features that are standard include an 8.4-inch touchscreen interface, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with two USB ports and HD and satellite radio.

If you're performance-minded, an upgrade to get for the base 300 Limited (or any 300, really) is the 5.7-liter V8 (363 hp and 394 lb-ft) with the eight-speed automatic. The V8 gives the car better acceleration, and with a car this big, that's important. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional.

Along the same line of thought, the sporty 300S comes with 20-inch wheels with performance tires (19-inchers with AWD), a sport-tuned suspension (RWD only) and steering calibration, LED foglights, remote start, unique blackout styling elements, sport front seats and a 10-speaker Beats Audio sound system. An optional performance suspension exclusive to the 300S features further sport tuning for the suspension and upgraded summer tires.

For the luxury buyer, there's the 300C, which adds niceties such as a comfort-tuned suspension (same as the Limited), an auto-dimming driver-side mirror, a dual-pane sunroof, LED cabin lighting, a power-adjustable and heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, driver-seat memory settings, a power rear window sunshade, a navigation system and an amplifier added to the six-speaker audio system. It's not the top of the heap, but the 300C certainly has a lot of equipment to ease your commute.

Our recommended trim, provided you can afford all the fancy stuff, is the 300C Platinum. It's the most luxurious of the bunch, and we'd understand if you go with a lower trim level, but there's a lot to like here. It adds unique exterior trim, a touring-tuned suspension (the softest, smoothest ride of the lot), adaptive xenon headlights, heated and cooled front cupholders, upgraded leather upholstery, an upgraded steering wheel and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo (which requires the removal of the power rear window sunshade).

Many of the upper trims' features are available on the lower trims as stand-alone options or via various packages.

Available on all but the Limited trim is the SafetyTec Plus package, which includes front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, automatic wipers, lane departure warning and prevention, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a forward collision mitigation system with automatic emergency braking.

Each vehicle typically comes in multiple versions, although trim levels share many aspects. The ratings in this review are based on our full test of the 2015 Chrysler 300C (3.6L V6 | 8-speed automatic | RWD).

NOTE: Since this test was conducted, the 300 has received some revisions, including some feature availability revisions. Our overall findings remain applicable to this year's Chrysler 300, however.

Chrysler’s new 300 sedan can be summed up with a few choice words: “comfortable, quiet and powerful.” The 300 offers plenty of gusto, even from its standard V6 engine. The available 363-horsepower Hemi V8 delivers heart-stopping acceleration, and the 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission perfectly manages gear changes. Straight-line performance is outstanding, but on models other than the 300S, cornering is not the Chrysler’s most admirable quality -- although it can easily outmaneuver a Toyota Avalon or Hyundai Azera. Somewhat improving matters is a Sport mode standard on the 300S and 300C Platinum that tweaks response from the steering, throttle and transmission shift points. The additional thrust of the V8 is certainly desirable, but the best combination of performance, efficiency and price is the V6-powered 300S with a light smattering of optional equipment. And if you live in the land of snow and ice all-wheel drive (AWD) is a worthwhile expense.

REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE LAYOUT Chrysler’s new 300 sedan hearkens back to a time when big, rear-wheel-drive (RWD), V8-powered cars ruled the American highways. Purists love cars driven by their rear wheels, but in today’s family-sedan market it’s a hard-to-find feature. Other rear-drive sedans are the Dodge Charger, Hyundai Genesis and Chevy SS. UCONNECT The new fourth generation of Uconnect is one of the best automotive infotainment systems and one of the easiest to use. Maps are supplied by Garmin, and the Bluetooth connects your phone almost instantaneously. The new system’s larger 8.4-inch screen also allows for phone-style navigation gestures like pinch and swipe.

The 2017 Chrysler 300's 5-passenger interior is comfortable and roomy. There’s an overall feeling of quality and at over 40 inches, rear-seat legroom is commendable. The driver's seat is pleasant on long drives, and higher trims add features like a power-adjustable steering wheel and heated/ventilated seats. Front-seat passengers, though, may feel crowded by the hump that houses part of the 300's powertrain, and rear visibility can be a problem because of thick roof pillars and a low roofline. At over 16 cubic feet, the 300's trunk is large, and the rear seats fold flat for added cargo flexibility.

In many ways the Chrysler 300, with its hard lines, small greenhouse and wide stance, has defined the look of American luxury sedans. This latest generation is not as blocky, with a front end that's more tapered than its snub-nosed predecessor, but its design is as distinctive as ever and it continues to exude an aggressive elegance as it struts down the road. The 2017 300's exterior design has evolved to include a new grille showcasing a "floating" winged badge, a more sculpted front fascia, and an updated rear with LED taillights. The more sporting 300S models have blacked-out elements.

The base 300 Limited includes dual-zone climate control, 12-way-power driver's seat, keyless entry, dash-mounted analog clock, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather seat trim, heated front seats and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Entertainment is provided by a 6-speaker AM/FM/satellite radio with USB input and Bluetooth streaming. Higher trims come with rearview camera, panoramic sunroof, leather interior, heated and cooled front seats and heated and cooled cup holders, navigation and power-operated rear sunshade. In addition to the 8.4-inch touch-screen display with Chrysler's easy-to-use Uconnect information and entertainment system, all models come with a snazzy 7-inch information display between the analog tachometer and speedometer.

A variety of packages and individual options is available for the 2017 Chrysler 300, some varying across the Chrysler's four trim levels. Among them are upgraded audio systems by Alpine, Beats or harman/kardon. Optional safety and driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning. Traction-enhancing all-wheel drive is available across trims on V6 models. In addition to more aggressive interior and exterior design cues, the sportier 300S models come with paddle shifters and performance-tuned suspension. The Platinum trim is loaded with quilted Nappa leather seats, hand-sanded wood accents and 20-inch wheels.

The 2017 Chrysler 300 comes with the highly lauded 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 as standard across all four trims. In 300S models it has slightly more power -- 300 horsepower, while in the 300 Limited, 300C and 300C Platinum it makes 292 horsepower. AWD is optional with this engine. Available on the three higher trim levels is a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine good for 363 horsepower. Both engines are connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is rated up to 30 mpg highway, commendable for such a large car. The powerful V8 achieves a high of 25 mpg. Cars with either engine can run on regular unleaded, though mid-grade 89 octane is recommended for the V8. With either engine the 300 is rated to tow up to 1,000 pounds. 3.6-liter V6292 horsepower @ 6,350 rpm300 horsepower @ 6,350 rpm (300S sport model)260 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpm264 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpm (300S sport model)EPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/30 mpg (RWD), 18/27 mpg (AWD) 5.7-liter V8363 horsepower @ 5,200 rpm394 lb-ft of torque @ 4,200 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/25 mpg Note: Due to changes in EPA testing to more effectively reflect real-world conditions, some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel-economy scores than their 2016 versions.

The 2017 Chrysler 300 has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting around $ 33,000 for the entry-level 300 Limited model. The 300S starts just over $ 36,000, the 300C costs about $ 39,500 and the top-line Chrysler 300 Platinum edition begins at about $ 43,500. Adding AWD to V6 models is an additional $ 2,500 and the rear-drive-only Hemi V8 option is an extra $ 3,000. Fully loaded, a Chrysler 300 can hover near the $ 50,000 mark. At its starting price, a new Chrysler 300 is several thousand more than a Ford Taurus and Chevrolet Impala, and less than the Toyota Avalon and Hyundai Azera. Before buying, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Chrysler 300. On the resale front, the big Chrysler's value has traditionally not held up as well as those of the Avalon, Azera or Impala.

2017 Chrysler 300 Future Generations

Chrysler 300 Overview and History

In 2014, the Chrysler 300 got refreshed, being first unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show the same year, highlighting six decades of ambitious American ingenuity through iconic design proportions inspired by 1955 and 2005 models. The SRT8 version of the new Chrysler 300 was revealed at the 2011 New York Auto Show, equipped with the 6.4 392 Hemi engine used by other SRT vehicles. Thanks to 470 hp available low down in the rev range, the muscular sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds. The car is lower, angrier, equipped with a body kit and a sports exhaust. It rides on stiffer suspension and stops better thanks to Brembo's big brake kit.
In terms of genesis, Chrysler is almost synonymous with an unwanted premature detonation. Amidst the depression of 1921 and the great collapse of 1929, when most car producers were facing extinction due to drastic decrease in sales, lack of resources and investors, a small company would try to make its way to the auto shows and into the American citizens' garages. Despite the economic meltdown that drove investors away and locked-down companies faster than a second Ice Age, the US auto market was mainly divided among two powers: the ever expanding GM and Ford.

The sum of such horrific conditions would have normally drove away contenders, but Walter P. Chrysler thought otherwise. Determined to get an equally slice of the market share pizza for himself, he exhibited a handsome car at the 1924 New York Auto Show. The automobile was none other than the Chrysler 70, the model that would drag the Chrysler name to he Pantheon of American car builders.

However, Chrysler wasn't born as Chrysler (from the company's standpoint). Facing a rapid and possibly permanent dissolution, the two initial companies held by Walter P., Maxwell and Chambers, merged to form a new entity that would later rub shoulders with its competitors at the time. The 70 model had an instant success that allowed the newly formed corporation to expand freely, unabated by the competition's efforts and much wider rage of automobiles.

The Chambers name was dropped, whist Maxwell was re-branded as a Plymouth. By 1931, the Plymouth brand had already become a fierce competitor in the small car segment and was insistently knocking on Ford stronghold's door, yelling to make room or evict the place. Although Ford was basically partying due to the high sales registered by their model A, the more advanced Plymouth did far better. Sporting hydraulic brakes, more flowing body lines and  a “floating power”engine, the Plymouth cast an awfully large cloud of doubt over Ford's headquarters.

The improvements brought by the Plymouth became so popular that other producers started using them as well. Citroen would later use Chrysler's patented “floating engine” technology that had the great advantage of reducing engine vibrations through the use of three rubber mounts that separated the engine from having direct contact with the chassis.

Chrysler did so good the following years that by the end of the 30's it had already surpassed Ford and moved to a comfortable second position. Almost unknowingly, Chrysler became a titan. The time to wrestle the no. 1 car manufacturer was near and Chrysler carefully readied its match.

However, what was designed as a model of crushing beauty was not well received by the American public. The 1934 Airflow model, a gorgeous curvy sparkling beauty failed to make an impact and consequently sales dropped faster than CBS dropped “The Will”.

Funnily enough, the public was not touched by a car that was way ahead of its time, at least as far as the bodywork was concerned. However, poor sales were efficiently countered once Chrysler released the Imperial model. Large, powerful and luxurious, it was an instant hit and catered for the need of a stand-out motorized social status statement, as well as a reliable day to day ride.

As soon as World War II was over Chrysler had entered a sales numbness, focusing more on research and engineering improvements rather than holding the company's position as a top car industry leader. The post WW II days brought along some significant changes in auto design and shape, with a legendary tail fin craze initiated by Ford and GM.

In response to the existing trends, Chrysler's automobiles became longer and wider and sacrificed performance and reliability for looks. This happened because of a shift in the consumers' perspective who came to prefer style and exterior features over practicality and quality. The by know well established Chrysler products were removed to make way for a new range of flashy cars that failed to climb to the height of the precedent line-up. In doing so, Chrysler was pushed back to the third place once more.

By the beginning of the 60's, Chrysler made a comeback with the introduction of the spectacularly enduring, fast and well balanced 300-F. Though some drivers complained about the vehicle's great size, its performance was hard if not impossible to contest. The machine could develop 400 hp and its acceleration was phenomenal.

Once the modern times arrived, Chrysler proved its versatility and changed once with the automotive industry, delivering quality vehicles for an ever increasing mass of enthusiasts. Models such as the Sebring, 300M, 300C and PT Cruiser, a vehicle conceived as a blend of modern technology and retro style elements, managed to keep Chrysler among the top choices within US borders. Unlike other American car brands, such as Cadillac, Buick or Lincoln, Chrysler has received a great deal of attention overseas as well. During the 90's, the company merged with Daimler-Benz AG and formed Daimler Chrysler, which is currently a world leader in transportation.

2017 Chrysler 300 Consumer Reviews

S 4dr Sedan AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
My 300S, a great car
I went to the dealer ready to lease a 2017 Grand Cherokee. My 300 happened to be on the showroom floor and it was love at first sight. Sounds corny, but it is a beautiful car. I have the non metallic Ceramic Gray Clear Coat paint, AWD, The S premium, group and the S Appearance package. Rides like a dream, gas mileage is acceptable for a big car and in sport mode handles really well. Chrysler has made significant improvement in their electronics, infotainment and interior materials. At least they have in the 300. I've owned 5 Jeeps, T&C van and a Sebring Convertible. My 300 is the best of them all. It is a big car, but doesn't have that big car feel inside. Beats audio is wonderful and the styling of the "S" trim constantly gets compliments. AWD only available with the V6, which is fine. 300 HP is plenty to move this car. I test drove the Hemi RWD model, but since I live in the snowbelt, AWD was the obvious choice. No regrets. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

S 4dr Sedan AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Large American car better than hoped
I bought this car after being in mid sized SUV and large pickup trucks for the past 9 years. Coming from that background, this is an amazing car. I have the Sport model and you cannot be put off by the editor's review here. They reviewed a totally different car than mine in totally different circumstances. I was a little afraid of the comments of the ride and handling but I have not found any of that to be the case. The Sport is a tight, smooth, powerful car in mainstream driving situations. During normal driving it exhibits none of the floatiness or undesirable body roll described here. The seats are bolstered and firm so that one is held tightly in position during turning. They may be a little too small, as many of the Dodge/Chrysler products tend to be. Braking is firm and straight for a large car. In fact, one has to be aware of all the automatic systems in place to help you drive. I brake moderately coming to stops and I can feel the system apply more pressure as one of the safety systems thinks I am not stopping fast enough. Either that or the brakes really grab after a few seconds warm up. The engine is smooth and responsive, especially at passing speeds. And I am getting 28MPG right out of the box at moderate (65-70) highway speeds, which is incredible. Visibility does not seem to be a problem, again coming from a truck background. The quietness is also amazing as is the sound system. My wife bought a new 2016 Charger, the sister car to this and while they share platforms, there are distinct differences that are worth the $ 10,000 difference. I opted for the AWD system, which may be the only models available here in Minnesota. If all-weather capabilities are what you want or need, this car seems like it will provide them and be a worthy premium choice for large cars available.

S 4dr Sedan (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Lovin the 300s performance and CarPlay
Really is the best American car value out there, and well worth the asking price. Sleek, comfortable, a lot more performance than you expect for a v6, and great tech included too! CarPlay is by far my favorite feature. Love the use of tech within the car, but still easy to use. Has a volume KNOB (which I love). Great gas mileage, and man do I get compliments on the cars looks (inside and out). Really sharp. I recommend the S model, and the sport appearance package makes the outside look the best. Good job Chrysler.

Limited 4dr Sedan (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Sweet!!!
Did not think I would ever buy a car again. Have always driven SUV or pick-up. The more I drive it the more I like it and the gas mileage is wonderful after driving a pick-up for the last 10 years. This car is sleek and stylish handles beautifully and is such a quiet ride. So pleased with my purchase.
foderntider,
Best car I've owned
I bought this car new. For the features it has, the style and look, and most of all the ride comfort, I have never owned a better car. The only issue I had was with the radio that was taken care of under the warranty. Absolutely beautiful car inside and out. If you're looking for a sedan you won't find a better bang for your buck

Great car in Great condition

Worst RADIO!!
I bought my car when it was 2yrs old. I’ve had it now goin on 3 years and I am having the WORST time with my radio system. I have t take the car to have it checked out cause it is having ghost touches that seems like someone is changing my channels and taking it on and off Bluetooth. My car isn’t under warranty so I’ll have to pay out of pocket in the upwards of $200-1500 I’m so upset I don’t even want the car no more and I LOOVE my car.
underpassaffected,
no need to say,but its been great
This car is better than new, has all the extras and a ton of detail like new tires . has the 392 hp engine paddle shift. no accidents just a great car
seventeeninternet,
It runs as good as it looks, then you push sport!
Beautiful paint tri-red metallic, alloy wheels, big sound system, black leather, more than enough room inside. Trunk will hold four golf bags or two old bags. Performance is incredible...then you push the sport button. This changes steering, shift points and overall performance. 30 MPG at 80 MPH. Quite and smooth. No torque steer because it's RWD! The 8-speed trans is incredible. A combination of performance, luxury, and CLASS. One look at the alloy series 300s and it says lets go!
metacarpalwham,
Car ok but the little things are killing me
Ok. I bought this car brand new last year. First of all the passenger side door panel was bucked up. Got that fixed with warranty (I bought the extra warranty also that was supposed to be good as long as I owned the car). Then about a month ago the back driver side wheel starting rattling like a bucket of bolts. Well, I took the car to the dealership and guess what? The wheel is not covered because the dealership unbeknownst to me swapped the wheels. Warranty voided. Really? I paid 800 for a piece of paper that is worthless. I really like the car for a year but after writing to Chrysler and them telling me that its a dealer issue (the dealer will not even call me back - Ive left 3 messages), I think Im going to take a loss on this car (Im so mad about this) and go back to a Chevy. I drove Chevys for about 40 years and never had this much trouble. I wish Mr. Iococca was still around! I am so upset about this car and the low quality service that Chrysler provides. I will never buy another Chrysler again and do not recommend.

New 2017 300S with Black Top
I am a large man standing 64 and weighing 300 lbs. and this 300S is the best car IMO for a big guy with great pricing & comfort. This is my 3rd 300 since 2005 and I just adore these vehicles. I had a 2013 300S that got totaled in an accident which forced me to go to the new 2017 model. It was a blessing in disguise as the new beefier 2017 300S with the Sports Appearance Package is a BEAST!!! The interior upgrades and body style changes makes all the difference. I have heated/cooled ventilated seats, BLIS system, Park Assist, Panoramic Roof with an ALL BLACK TOP, rear power shade,8.4 Uconnect w/Nav, Beats Audio, etc..... and this things turns heads. I went with the V6 model for fuel savings but in hindsight this vehicle should only come with the V8 Hemi in it. This thing looks and drives like a King!! Trust me you will not be disappointed if you get one. The price for a vehicle of this size with all the features should be well into the low 50s but FCA/Chrysler with rebates landed me right at 41K.....Amazing!!

"Very pleased with this car."
This has been a great car so far,own less than a year and driven about 10000 miles, the thing I love the most is the comfort on long trips, car is a eye catcher and people say what a nice looking car. I dont like it in city traffic, the 8 speed transmission is a little busy up and down hills, but when your cruising on the high way this car is smooth and gets 33 MPG. This car is a boulevard cruiser and if that"s how you drive it you will be very pleased as I am.

"Diggin the scene with the gangster lean!"
My car is a 300C AWD Luxury edition with all options. The car is built on a Mercedes platform, and it shows. Rock solid and quiet with HEMI power. Car performs well (my other car is a late model Z51 Corvette) handles amazingly well for it’s size and is church quiet inside. Interior is roomy, luxurious and soothing. Have had no unscheduled maintenance except alternator recall in 62,000 miles. Build quality is very high (pretty much on par with a Mercedes 600 I owned). THIS CAR IS GREAT FOR SOMEONE IN NEED OF A LARGE, FAST, CAPABLE SEDAN. 9.9/10!
