We haven't had a chance to check out the new 9-speed automatic in the Malibu Premier, but our experiences with the Malibu have been nothing but impressive. The 2.0-liter turbocharged models pull strongly from a stoplight. The rocker switch on top of the gear selector lets you manually select gears, and although we'd prefer steering-wheel paddles, it works well enough for the few times you're likely to use it. The nicely sorted suspension didn't let the big 19-inch wheels and low-profile tires on our test car transmit much in the way of bumps, regardless of the surface we encountered. The payoff for the big wheels was in handling, which isn't going to give the Mazda6 night sweats, but is certainly enough for the challenges the Malibu is likely to face.

APPLE CARPLAY AND ANDROID AUTO While Chevrolet MyLink is one of the better touch-screen infotainment systems out there, we love the consistency using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto brings to a vehicle’s interior. Using the identical functionality of a smartphone on your infotainment system is just as desirable and useful as it sounds. TEEN DRIVER Nervous parents with first-time drivers can keep track of what their youngsters are up with Teen Driver's suite, now available in LS and LT models, and all hybrids. The system lets you monitor how fast and where the car has gone, and even mutes the audio unless everyone's strapped in.

Even if you don't use CarPlay or Android Auto, you'll appreciate the Chevy MyLink infotainment system's combination of big icons and physical knobs and buttons. It's all part of an interior design that isn't just functional, but is among the best in class from a purely esthetic point, too. The gauges are big and clear, the dash curves and swoops attractively, and it's even easy to see out. The comfortable front seats adjust to virtually any body size, and the rear seats boast enough legroom to seat tall adults, although they might find headroom a little tight.

Chevrolet has managed a difficult task with its family of sedans, somehow imparting a family resemblance on the Malibu that's immediately shared with the larger Impala and smaller Cruze, but without making small, medium and large versions of the same car. There are subtly sculpted, elegant-looking coves in the front and rear doors, and at the rear the taillights -- LEDs in Premier models -- tie it all together. Higher-end models also get LED daytime running lights, and super-bright HID headlights are also available. Wheel sizes range from 16 inches all the way up to the 19-inchers on our test car.

While the base Malibu L model offers the basics -- air conditioning, cruise control and an AM/FM radio -- it's a rental-fleet special you should skip. Instead, the 2017 Chevy Malibu lineup really starts at the LS model, which adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with USB ports and Bluetooth with its 7-inch MyLink infotainment system. There are also a standard rearview camera and a 6-way-adjustable manual driver's seat. The very good 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder includes stop/start and hill-start assist. On the safety front, there are 10 total airbags, plus stability control and OnStar, which automatically dials for help in an accident.

There are powertrain choices in the form of the Malibu Hybrid and the 2.0-liter turbo in Premier models. Beyond that, the Malibu offers ever-increasing levels of technology, including available adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision alert, and rear cross-traffic alert. There's a 4G LTE-powered Wi-Fi hotspot to help you find your dinner spot, the available on-board navigation system can help you get there, and the Automatic Parking Assist can even help you park when you arrive. And of course there's available leather upholstery, with Premier models offering automatic climate control.

Standard on 2017 Malibu models from L through LT1 is the 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 6-speed automatic. This frugal drivetrain has little problem moving the Malibu, and returns up to 36 mpg on the highway. Premier models get the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, which gets the new Malibu moving without hesitation. With the new 9-speed automatic transmission, it gets 33 mpg on the highway, easily competitive for the segment. The new hybrid combines two electric motors and a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder for a combined 182 horsepower and up to 49 mpg in the city. All the engines run on regular gasoline; premium is recommended for the 2.0-liter but not required. Some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel economy numbers this year, due to changes in EPA testing. 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 160 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm 184 lb-ft of torque @ 2,000-4,000 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 27/36 mpg 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 250 horsepower @ 5,300 rpm 258 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/33 mpg 1.8-liter inline-4 122 horsepower @ 5,000 rpm 129 lb-ft of torque @ 4,750 rpm Motor A: 55 kW Motor B: 76 kW 136 horsepower (electric motors combined) 277 lb-ft of torque (electric motors combined) 182 net horsepower EPA city/highway fuel economy: 49/43 mpg Note: Due to changes in EPA testing to more effectively reflect real-world conditions, some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel-economy scores than their 2016 versions.

Prices for the base-level 2017 Chevrolet Malibu L start with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of about $ 22,500, which puts it in the lower end of the midsize-sedan segment. But since you'll probably skip that model, the real-world base model is the 2017 Malibu LS, starting at about $ 24,000. The Premier, with its 2.0-liter engine and 9-speed automatic, starts just below $ 32,000, while the Malibu Hybrid starts at about $ 28,750. Those prices are competitive with, and often slightly less than, comparably equipped midsize sedans like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Before buying, be sure to check the Fair Purchase Price calculator to see what others in your area are paying. Unfortunately, while the new car looks great and offers a lot, historically resale value hasn't been one of the Malibu's strengths.

2015 marked the unveiling of the ninth generation Chevrolet Malibu at the New York Auto Show.
Chevrolet is the auto equivalent of a gene-boosted steroid-pumped feline. The ferocious cat was groomed by Swiss born racing driver Louis Chevrolet and business whiz Buick resurrector and former GM head William Durant, as a joint venture that started in 1910. Shortly after Durant was forced out of GM, he partnered with Chevrolet, whom he had previously employed at his Buick racing team, to regain the popularity he had lost.
The Chevy headquarters was set in Detroit and the newly formed brand was baptized, receiving its famous “bowtie” logo in 1913. There are several hypotheses as to how the logo design came to be, two of them being the closest to unanimous acceptance. One of the theories hints at the logo having been designed after a poster Durant had seen in a French hotel while the second claims the “bowtie” is actually a stylized representation of the Swiss flag cross.
No matter how it originated, the golden Chevy logo persisted. In fact, the brand grew at such a fast pace that it allowed Durant to regain ownership of GM in 1916. After having become wealthy enough, Durant bought a smashing 54.5 percent of GM's shares, reinstating himself as head of the auto empire.
Soon after the takeover, Chevrolet was absorbed into GM, becoming a separate division. Having gained even more strength after the merger, the newly formed entity was quick in starting off production and launched the model D in 1918. The V8 35 hp engines fitted on these cars were replaced by smaller 6 cylinder ones, that proved particularly successful on commercial vehicles. The engine gained reputation due to its high durability and earned the “cast iron wonder” nickname.
Only a few years later, Chevy revealed the SUV in its archaic form: the Suburban Carryall. Sporting rough terrain riding capabilities, seating for 8 and weighing around 1½ tons, it marked the beginning of Chevy's future SUV line-up.
The American producer continued its successful innovations streak by introducing the Powerglide transmission in 1950, becoming the first low-price competitor to equip its vehicles with automatic shifting. Shortly after the introduction of the fully automatic transmission, the legendary Corvette was born.
The Vette had such a good reception that it remained the longest running Chevy model in the brand's history, having also been the first American sports car to enter mass production. The Vette also premiered the usage of lightweight construction materials for the car's body, like plastic, at that time.
Following the acclaim garnered by the Vette's release, Chevy launched several other models, including the flashy Impala and the short lived air-cooled Corvair. During the 60's, Chevy reached its sales peak with 3 cars out of any 10 sold in the US. However, before such a performance was achieved, Chevy designed a new small-block V8 engine used to equip its '55 truck range.
This particular engine made it till today, going through plenty of modifications in the process ranging from lightweight, durable aluminum construction to ECU managed control and modern fuel injection for better dosage and increased power.
Although Chevy has been registering lower sales in the past few years due to uncontrolled brand extension, some of the “bowtie” emblazoned automobiles have become either cult classics or vintage collectibles, four wheeled icons as reminders of a past age of glory.

L 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
2017 Malibu most expensive pos I have ever owned
I purchased a 2017 malibu new with 5 miles 12/2016. Check engine light came on a month and half later. Vehicle is continuously in the shop.My car has lost speed and would not accelerate over 2nd gear on 2 different occasions. I have had o2 sensors replaced twice, wire harness replaced, accelerator pedal replaced, pre-catalytic converter errors, mis-fire errors, catalytic converter replaced, rear wheel bearings. All items replaced at less than 35,000 miles. In the shop 11 times in the past 12 months. Still makes an intermittent rumbling noise and clunks at time when decelerating. Dealership cannot address since the issue is intermittent and I cannot replicate on command. Unreliable vehicle with on-going issues and lack of support from dealership and GM.

LT 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
VERY DISSATISFIED
Bought the car with 359 miles on in in december of 2017. From day one I have a vibration hum from the rear end only when a person is sitting in the front passenger seat. Noticed it had a sweat line on the passenger rear head liner so I took it in for service. They said the fixed the hum too by unbolting the a/c compressor and retorqing it to the new specs...Did not fix the vibration. I have been noticing several new things latley, fuel mileage has gone from 35 to 24, has loss of power on take off until the turbo kicks in, has engine vibration at idle, almost stalls out sometimes when going from reverse to drive. On friday sep 22 the check engine light came on and it was put into limp mode. Had it towed to the dealership and on saturday they told me in was fine and was just low on oil, I asked where did the oil go then? They argued with me further and said it was fine and there is nothing wrong with it. On sunday morning the light again came on and it again went into limp mode, when I stopped at a light the car died and wouldn't restart. Had it towed to the same dealership and now they are saying it has a blown motor. Say it has metal shavings throughout the engine. The dealership has not been helpful at all and has argued with me through this whole process. I told them they should have looked into it more closley on saturday instead of arguing with me. The car only has 65k miles. As soon as it is done I'm trading it in. I will never own another gm product again!

LS Fleet 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
Chevy Malibu 4 door sedan Saved my Life.
I'm a full time student and this vehicle made being a student less stressful and much more enjoyable. I owned the vehicle for only a few months when I ended up totaling it sadly. I will be purchasing another one to replace my first and favorite vehicle. I was driving home at 11pm after a busy day of school and errands, as I was driving home there was a pack of deer that sprinted out in front of my vehicle and because I was driving the car I was driving I not only survived but walked away from the crash unharmed, I hit a tree after trying to avoid the deer and also rolled three times. Overall the safety on this car was flawless and because my vehicle came with a five year on-star prescription 9-1-1 was instantly dialed the moment my airbags went off. This style vehicle is not only stylish but safe and I would recommend this vehicle to any and everyone.

LS 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
FLatulant Malibu
We Purchased this vehicle on the 28th of November after trading in a 2012 Malibu lt That had 72000 miles on it. We chose the LS model as our new replacement because of the the options that we could get for the money. Unfortunately i think we should have done more research. At 489 miles the check engine light came on. I took the car in to be serviced and i was told that there was gas vapors escaping from the gas cap and that is what was causing the check engine light to come on. I was told that the part would be ordered but it would take a couple of weeks to get in. I can not believe this is happening on a brand new car. I purchases my 2012 Malibu as a second owner with 42000 miles on it and not once did i have a check engine light come on. i pray that this is the only problem and that i will be fixed soon. this has been the only problem that we have had with the car other than that the 1.5 liter engine is good. Its not overly quick but you have plenty of passing power on the highway. I have a heavy foot and i like to drive cautiously fast however i have not once had to floor the accelerator, the 1.5 liter gets you up to speed quickly and the brakes are nice and firm for whenever you have that driver that's not paying attention to the road. the android auto is a great feature that was added for the 2017 Ls model it helps keep the driver focused on the road all you have to say is " Ok Google" and the vehicle activates voice command. I wish the tire noise was reduced however different tires may decrease the sound. Gas mileage is good i am averaging 22.8 so far but we live In Midtown Atlanta so its mostly city driving. Overall We love this car just troubled that we are already having problems.
creamedmax,
An awesome Chevy with all the features of a Caddy
Even though it's over 3 years old our 2017 Malibu Premier has all of the newer model features of lane keep assist, front crash avoidance, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise, parking assist, heated and ventilated premium leather seating and an exceptional 2.0l / 9 speed power plant package. We routinely achieve over 30 mpg even in short distance driving, and mid to high 30's on longer (15 mile +) trips. With the pearl white tri coat color and 19 inch turbine wheels the car also just looks great. We purchased this vehicle new and have had no issues, just great driving experiences. If you are looking for one, find a 2017 + year with the 9 speed auto premium package. You will not be disappointed.

Worst vehicle I ever owned
I have had the 2017 Malibu for almost 3 years and I hate it so much I cry sometimes when I think about what I owe on it. The car is way overpriced and is extremely poorly made. The sound proofing on this car is non existent, the craftsmanship of the fit and finish is horrible , service after the sale is non existent and Contradictory to the warranty , the stereo is junk , it doesn’t even have speakers in the back windows dash. It has the smallest gas tank is the smallest ever what good is having a car that gets almost 40 miles to the gallon if you have no range. In closing I would like to say that General Motors should be ashamed to put their name on this car and then charge 30,000 for , at best this is a disposable car that is probably not even as good as a Kia when they first came out. I will do my best not to drive this car off a cliff when I think about how much it sucks and what I payed for it.

Cheap Chevy product
Bought new 2017 and with 91,000 miles after engine light stating Assist Battery would come on and then disappear, took it to dealership and was told it needed a new engine. Since it was out of warranty the cost was all mine-$8,000. This is not what I expected from a Chevy product, since I have been a loyal Chevy supporter for many years. I called Chevrolet main office and they shrugged it off as did the dealership. The only resolution reached at this point is that “I will never buy Chevrolet again”. I realize warranty is out on this car but I think someone would stand behind their product since an engine should more than 91000 miles.

I loved this car, besides the winter driving!
I loved this car, besides the winter driving. This car is pretty to look at - inside and out. This car however, cannot compete during the winter months in Minnesota. I was in the ditch or stuck in this car for about 90% of ever being stuck, and I have 15 years of driving. If you don't live in the wintery areas, it's a good car to drive. The look, the MPG's, how much money it took to fill up, the sound system that came with the car (Bose speakers, touch screen, Sirius/XM Radio), double sun roof, etc, etc.

Great car for the money
This is a great road car. I am on the road a lot and this car is comfortable, performs very well and the fuel mileage is great. I would buy another one!

Best Car I have Ever Driven
I have driven this car for about 6 months now, and I have owned a total of 2 cars in my lifetime, so saying this car is the best car I've ever owned isn't saying too much. However, I have driven dozens of cars from friends to family to work in my lifetime, and I can say with confidence that this is the best car I have ever driven. It is very stylish, the performance is out of this world for the price point, the seats are very comfortable, and there is plenty of legroom for the driver, passenger, and rear passengers, and I have had no mechanical problems to speak of. The heated features are amazing in winter, and during the freezing Wisconsin temperatures kept me nice and toasty. If you are on the fence about purchasing this car, do not be afraid to jump right in and buy it. Chevy hit it out of the park with this car!

Not a good road car
Might be a good car for someone who drives a couple days a week, short distances.

Like the car but to much technology and software
The car does perform well with power and the gas mileage is amazing. But setting that aside the car did require a repair after the first 300 miles. Wire harness was the claim. Second failure for the same thing at 12,000 miles. Second failure made the gauges read as if the alternator quit but again wire harness. At 22,000 the shifter failed. Computer thougt car was in gear. Due to software was not able to lock the car with a shifter failure computer thinks car is in neutral. 3 failures in a brand new vehicle under 25,000 miles seems poor quality to me. The technology amplifies the failures making the car not drivable.

Great Value
Very sleek design. Much better than previous generations. Leather is great. And Bose sound system sounds great. Pearl color has a nice appearance to it - especially at night.

Best Car in it's Class / By Far
Our 2017 Chevy Malibu Premier 2.0L / 9 Speed Automatic is the nicest car we ever owned. It is tight, quiet, powerful and the handling/steering is excellent. Additionally, this is a great looking car with lots of room for passengers and cargo, with a great surprise of 35+ highway mileage. We looked at the competitors ( Ford, Toyota and Honda ) and this car exceeds (in some cases by far) their offerings in price, features and looks. The lane departure, park assist, crash avoidance cell phone charging pocket and navigation systems are second to none. The 360 degree visibility and seating positions are also excellent. We even tried the new Chevy Impala and Cadillac and felt this car delivered more for the money. I think anyone who test drives the competitors vehicles (make sure to test their premium level offerings) and then the Malibu Premier will see that this car is the best out there.
blinksinternal,
Nice car!
The Chevy Malibu hybrid is a great car! Super comfortable and a gas saver. For a sedan I think it would be nice if it was smaller but overall a great car.

Great Sedan
Dead reliable so far. Crazy fast for a family car (optional 2.0 Turbo) plus 35 mpg on the road when driven sanely, what more can you ask for?
Good ride and great handling for a front wheel drive family sedan, very enjoyable and engaging to drive.
Very satisfied and would make the same purchase again.

I loved this car but then..
I loved this car but then I was driving on the highway and my car randomly turned off and cut power to the engine. Luckily I was stuck in traffic so I wasnt in too dangerous of a situation. Now I dont feel safe in my own car. Right now its at the dealership and they cant figure out why it happened.

Quiet, Comfortable, Sooth & Well Designed
I love the 2017 Chevy Malibu. This is the quietest car I have ever driven. Its so smooth on the highway. The car seems to naturally stay in its lane. The brakes are great. The car is very fuel efficient and will delivery about 45-mpg at 60-mph. The 1.5 liter Lt is not a race car, but has plenty of power and can easily execute quick maneuvers in traffic. Its really the best car in its class.

We own 2-2016 Malibu Hybrids-Butte Red & Velvet
These cars are the best driving hybrids I have owned after owning 2 others. My wife, who would not drive hybrids, loves the car and would not go back to an all gasoline vehicle after driving this one. Chevy really got in the hybrid game with this car. Having the tested Volt technology in the car gives us comfort we have little to worry about with the car.
I cannot believe GM does not advertise this car as I have yet to find anyone who knows it exists (they think we are driving regular Malibus), but it appears they are trying to sell more of the Volt & Bolt
outercompleted,
Great value mid size sedan
I trust car and drivers reviews and they rated the redesigned 2016 Malibu ahead of the Honda Accord. It like the style and the ride. The LT is equipped with a lot of features I appreciate, without a lot of options I dont care to pay for. The mylink radio is the future of car electronics. Let your phone take over the dash screen to handle navigation, texts and phone calls. This site lists a fair market price of 25K for an LT with red paint and the dealer installed convenience package 2 (a waste of money but good luck finding one without it). I paid 18,400. My only complaints are there are too many driver info screens in the dashboard display with too little info on each and the gas tank is smaller than the one in my 2012 Cruze.
colagyr,
Fantastic car and a bargain
Weve put 7,000 miles on our Malibu 2.0 Premier and love driving it. The seats are comfortable, the technology is cutting-edge, and the driving dynamics are really great for a family sedan.
The 2.0T has much better power than I anticipated, and moves the car with ease. The 8-speed transmission is nearly flawless and rarely hunts for the right gear. Gear changes are smooth and barely noticable, while highway passing maneuvers are met with ample acceleration even going from 60-80.
The options available on this car for the price are awesome. We priced out a Mercedes C-class with the same options and it came in at 25k more than the Malibu Premier. Not to mention that the Mercedes was slower even with the premium engine.
This car is an unrivaled value and it looks great.

1st malibu LT after last 5 impallas every 3 years
Have approximately 9,000 miles. Bought the car in October and have had 2 major problems. 1st was when the keyless start would not accept my fob. Had to replace the entire system and hopefully problem solved. 2nd problem was with my dashboard screen It went completely blank and now dealer is telling me the radio has to be replaced. I have now been 1 month with out a radio. This means no GPS, no turn signals and no music on the many days Im on the road. The excuse is its a nation wide recall and GM is having trouble keeping up with the demand for replacements. Will definitely be looking for another car very soon and not a Malibu with the keyless entry
balearicventricle,
Love this car
I love everything about my new vehicle; with the exception of the interior cloth. Because of the interior color every lint and speckle shows. Other than this the ride is smooth, the exterior color is beautiful. This is indeed the best gift I have purchase for myself.

easy handeling, quiet and quality materials
Sleek and sexy lines, quality materials inside, nice and predictable handling. easy to operate all the high tech. Pleasantly surprised how smooth and quiet the 2.0 is since I usually opt for a v6 in a new car but that isn't available or necessary on the 2017 Malibu.I gave it a 9 overall because there is no spare tire, only an inflation kit as in many newer cars.Get the Premier model and you won't be disappointed.

"Auto start and 1.5 liter turbo = avoid this car"
The auto start and turbo on the car are very discomforting. I've had many problems with my 6 month old malibu having acceleration issues and the car jolts like the transmission might dump out of the car when the auto start feature goes in affect. This car is not safe in my opinion, and I'll be surprised if it makes it past 100k without any major issues. I would take my 2012 malibu back over this one

2018 Chevrolet Malibu
"Comes So Close"
After 4K miles and many more to come, my Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid provides a great driving experience. The 1.8L engine isn't going to win me any drag races, but it gets me up to highway speeds quick enough for me to merge. The regenerative braking is a great feature, with a visual representation of battery gain/loss on the tachometer and the displays. The hybrid engine is efficient as I've been getting great mileage, though the A/C can lower the overall mpg and the switch from electric to gas is more apparent than I'd like. Handling is decent, with the car having a bit more of a turning radius than I'd like. Safety features such as rear backup assist and blind spot monitoring help me daily during my commutes.
Stylistically, this car looks mean and sleek, giving it a more luxurious look than its price tag suggests. The halogen headlamps are a disappointment, but a quick $ 70 self-install to LED significantly helped the look, paired with the always on curved LEDs. Trunk space is adequate, with the hybrid battery taking up a lot of room provided by folding down the seats.
Inside, the leather interior is comfortable, even in the hot Phoenix sun. The exclusion of ventilated seating is unfortunate, but heated seats are nice (if I ever use them). There is plenty of room to sit in the front or back and my girlfriend loves the lumbar support, so much so she sometimes dozes off after setting it. The infotainment is alright, as the interface feels dated, but can quickly revert to Android Auto's more modern interface when plugging in the phone. The interface between my phone and car, when connected via Bluetooth, is instantaneous and seamless.
Overall, the Malibu is not your dad's rental car. It finally feels like a vehicle you can own and be proud of. There are a few hindrances, such as the dated infotainment and limited cargo space, but as a hybrid car, this is on the most stylish and feature-packed hybrids on the road today.
