Driving the new Lexus LX 570 SUV is a lesson in contradictions. On one hand, it's comfortable, quiet and refined. You're surrounded by the finest leather, beautifully crafted wood trim, and all the luxury trappings you can imagine. Despite its size, it's practically graceful in corners; not sporty, but confident and comfortable. True, there's a bit more rumble in the ride than you might expect in a Lexus, but there's a reason: This is a real SUV. Under the leather and wood is a truck-type body-on-frame chassis. This rugged structure combines with a sophisticated 3-mode independent suspension setup, giving the big LX 570 a brutal ability to tackle and conquer off-road trails with ease. Where competitors like the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GL will call it a day, the LX 570 is more than capable of busting the brush and forging ahead thanks to its 2-speed transfer case and locking differential.
DUAL REAR SCREENSRear-seat entertainment systems are nothing new, but the dual 11.6-inch screens available in the 2016 LX 570 are something else. Bigger than many laptop screens, they provide a cinematic experience that your pampered (spoiled) little ones will otherwise loudly demand.CRAWL CONTROLForget the leather and wood trim: The 2016 LX 570 is a real off-road-ready truck, and if you take it off road, you’ll appreciate its Crawl Control mode. It controls the brake and throttle inputs slowing the LX on steep grades, letting the driver focus on avoiding obstacles.
There's no mistaking the 2016 LX 570 for anything but a Lexus when you sit inside. A huge 12.3-inch infotainment display juts from the center of the dash, controlled by the Remote Touch Interface. The center console is elegant and functional, with controls for this 4-wheel-drive (4WD) truck's low range, ride height, drive mode – including Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ – differential lock and crawl control. Soft leather is on the seats, there are soft-touch surfaces everywhere, and even the comfy back seat gets its own audio and climate controls, plus two huge 11-inch video screens.
The now-signature Lexus "spindle" grille has made it to the biggest vehicle it has, and not surprisingly, it's the biggest yet. We're not going to sugarcoat it here: It's pretty darn over the top, and not everyone is going to like it, especially from this traditionally conservative luxury-car maker. Still, it's distinctive, there's no denying that, and we like the LED headlights. The back end is tamer, with angular LED taillights, and the new wheels look sharp. In profile it maintains the boxy and rugged look we expect from a 4WD truck, with running boards to help everyone climb in.
Every 2016 LX 570 comes standard with 4-wheel drive and a V8 engine. This Lexus SUV burnishes its luxury credentials with standard equipment like quad-zone climate control, a power moonroof, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a leather interior with your choice of wood trim, and a 14-way driver's seat. New this year is a 12.3-inch navigation and infotainment screen that utilizes the Lexus Remote Touch Interface controller. That includes a 9-speaker audio system with HD Radio, Bluetooth streaming audio, and USB and iPod inputs. In addition to 10 airbags, there's a system that can automatically send help after an accident.
Options for the LX 570 include a Mark Levinson sound system – get it – and a rear-seat entertainment system with big 11.2-inch dual screens. There's also a useful head-up display, and enhancements to the Lexus Enform suite, adding remote control and service intervals to the system. Other options include 21-inch wheels, and a luxury package that adds heated 2nd-row outboard seats and semi-aniline leather with contrast stitching.
There's only one engine for the 2016 Lexus LX 570: a 5.7-liter V8 putting out 383 horsepower and a stout 403 lb-ft of torque. It gives the big Lexus a tow rating of up to 7,000 pounds. All LX 570 models come standard with full-time 4-wheel drive, a system that can make the LX ready for the trail with the flip of a switch to lock the differentials, and a real knob to engage the LX's low-speed transfer case. New this year is an 8-speed automatic transmission, but with 6,000 pounds to haul around, it improves fuel economy only a little bit.5.7-liter V8383 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm403 lb-ft of torque @ 3,600 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 13/18 mpg
The 2016 Lexus LX 570 has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) just under $ 90,000 when you include the $ 940 destination charge. However, there's a required $ 1,190 Luxury Package, which pushes the price up to $ 91,160. Add the Mark Levinson sound system ($ 2,350), rear-seat entertainment system ($ 2,005), and other options, and you can push the price to more than $ 95,000 without breaking a sweat. That's a lot of money, even compared to other high-end 3-row luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GL350 and Audi Q7, and even truck-based SUVs like the 4WD Infiniti QX80 or an AWD Cadillac Escalade. Before buying, be sure to check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for the 2016 Lexus LX. Resale value is a brighter spot, with the Lexus LX 570 expected to hold its value very well over the years.
Sticking with the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" mantra, the Lexus LX received yet another facelift in 2015, a more in-depth one this time.
If American car-manufacturer heads had been warned about a Japanese take-over in the mid 80's, they would have almost certainly laughed at the prospect. Humorous or not, the Japanese did conquer US, not through mecha led wars but rather through anime and cars. However, before the mild-assault began, there were a series of weird meetings held in secrecy in chairman chambers.
Such a meeting was held in 1983 between Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda and his company executives. Toyoda had not invited his enforcers over for cookies and tea but to question them about the possibility of developing a luxury-car line that could successfully compete with American brands. The project was labeled as F1 -Flahship 1- and proved to be a most lucrative endeavor. The result was a vehicle that later became known as the Lexus LS 400 prior to its US premier.
The LS 400 was not just a car that took time and resources to built. In researching American luxury-product consumer habits and lifestyles, the Japanese went as far as renting a house in Laguna beach in order to observe their “subjects” closely. Offspring of long-gestating consumer research and cutting-edge engineering, the LX 400 was a hit.
Endorsed by insightful advertising, the LS 400 made its entrance at the North American Auto Show in Detroit, 1989 where it was one of the main attractions. And how could it not have been after 24 engineering teams and a few thousands employees worked on 450 prototypes at the cost of a paltry $ 1 billion investment?
The main advantage Lexus had over Acura, that had reached US markets 3 years before, was its uniqueness. Unlike the first Acura models which were sold as rebadged Hondas, the Lexus held little connections to Toyota design patterns.
Silent, ergonomic, powerful and reliable, the LS became a fierce competitor for European imports such as Mercedes Benz and BMW, whose sales drastically dropped following Lexus' trumpeting market entrance.
Models like the ES 250 followed which along the LS registered enough sales to allow the brand expanding through an 81-dealership network. During those first years of sales, Lexus became the top-selling luxury car in the U.S. Things were going smoothly for the Japanese manufacturer, just like its cars, and in 1991, two new models were released: the SC400 coupe and the ES 300 sedan. The latter was marketed as a replacement for the ES 250 and quickly became the company's best selling sedan.
Following the release of a heir to the LS 400 and the Toyota Aristo-based series of the GS, Lexus entered the sport utility vehicle segment in 1996 with the launch of the LX 450, a large car based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100. By 1998, Lexus would release the RX, a top-selling crossover based on Toyota's Camry model as well as a new series of the GS. During the following years, further technological improvements such as the introduction of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system on the 2005 RX 400h, resulted in an even greater sales increase.
Things were so good for Lexus that it has constantly grown since its inception. The brand has been introduced to the Japanese home-market in 2005 as well as it has in other regions of Asia and South America as well as Australia and Europe. By 2007, Lexus had spread in over 50 countries and it continues to grow. The company's “pursuit of perfection” is fronted by its current line-up, comprised of the IS, LS and RX series among others as well as the avant-garde LF-A concepts.
2016 Lexus LX Consumer Reviews
metacarpalwham,
great vehicle
great car just wish that the third row seats integrated into the floor like my 2010 toyota sequoia and be aware that buying the lexus lx 570 with the 21 inch tire will cost you to replace them it is only 1 company that makes the replacement tires and they are expensive if i had known i would had opted for the 20 inch tires but otherwise very well built vehicle.
eraseavoid,
Very Luxurious and capable, but no Range Rover
This is a very nice luxury SUV that is super capable off-road and can handle a boat or trailer with ease. It has very soft leather and an impressive options list. On paper this will win every comparison you can put it against but in use it lags. It has excessively heavy steering. It is not roomy, it doesnt have the fit and finish or quality of a Range Rover. It has a terrible media interface and and controls. Plus, it only gets 11mpg! The 3rd row is usable but no 2nd row buckets makes it hard to access.
servicesdicing,
NOT for the snow!
The tires on the LX are great for the Spring, Summer and Fall. They are downright scary in the winter. I have owned many different SUVs over the years and this one far and away leads the pack in poor winter driving with its stock tires. Unfortunately, the stock tires are the ONLY tires available for the stock size. They will not stop this heavy vehicle in the snow or on ice. The odd 21" tire size makes trying to find all season tires impossible. (Lexus throws salt in this wound by calling the 21" wheel an "option" but then not selling the vehicle in the US with anything but this size!)
This is a truly unfortunate (and ultimately unacceptable) problem with what would otherwise be a very pleasant vehicle. Even though it is appreciably slower and gets much worse gas mileage that its competitors, it make up for that in comfort, quiet, and refinement. No SUV I have driven is as pleasant inside or as comfortable. None can hold a candle to the Mark Levinson stereo or its technology. But you cannot safely drive it in the snow. Too bad.
togetherpetite,

2019 Lexus LX
"SUV that all of its predecessors avg. 250000 miles"
I am 64 and soon will be 65 and I fully expect this to be my very last purchase of an automobile. I want to be driving this when I have to hand my keys over to my 8 year younger wife when I am in my 80's. Lexus RX350's are well known to go this many miles as long as you take good care of it. Oil changes, tire rotations and any and all upkeep. It's definitely an expensive auto from the get-go but it will pay for itself when I do not have to buy another car for twenty years. I love this Lexus except for railroad tracks and pot hole roads. It rides like a freakin' truck. I am surprised by this. I can live with it, however. It's a great automobile except for that. Honestly, I think I am the one who is picky. Everyone who has traveled with me has commented how sweet the ride is...especially in the back seat. One never knows!

2017 Lexus LX
"Unmatched Reliability, SUV Performance & Luxury"
This is the only vehicle (with it's sister Toyota Land Cruiser) that is successfully designed & built to offer 25 years / 250,000 miles of highly dependable off-road & highway performance with this level of luxury & style. Only the highest priced Land Rover or Mercedes SUV models can even come close in off-road capabilities, highway manners, seating capacity & comfort /style but without the long term quality /dependability of the Lexus. This is the luxury version of the tremendously dependable Toyota Land Cruisers that I have owned for decades each, but this vehicle sets a new standard in every way. I could not be more pleased.Read less
