Estimates based on a driving average of 12,000 miles per year
Used Condition Trade In Price Private Party Price Dealer Retail Price

Every competitor in this segment offers exceptional driving dynamics; it’s the price of entry, and the 2016 IS more than holds its own. Around town it’s all silky luxury, with a supple suspension that smothers bumps and blankets potholes. Then aim it around corners and it points like a curved laser. The steering feels like a machine tool, the brakes soak off speed, the tires get a handshake with asphalt, and the strong, responsive engines drive it down the straights or up the hills with smooth, committed purpose. It’s a genuine delight to drive, even just bopping down to the corner to pick up deli sandwiches. The optional F packages add mainly trim stuff, slightly bigger tires, higher-performance brake pads and some suspension tuning but, at the price premium of around $ 3,000 or more – and given the excellence of the IS in “normal” form – we have trouble making that recommendation.

8TH-GENERATION INFOTAINMENTLexus prides itself on its technology, so it makes sense that the 2016 Lexus IS would be on the cutting edge. The infotainment system features a reconfigurable home screen, 3D building icons and the Lexus Enform mobile application suite – all certain to prove worthwhile.2.0-LITER TURBOCHARGED ENGINEThe 200t’s new 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine makes 241 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque from 1,650 to 4,400 rpm. It utilizes both direct and port fuel injection and has an 8-speed automatic transmission. Toyota says 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds. We say zowee!

The Lexus IS instrument panel has a family resemblance to that of the Lexus GS sedan, and the conventional and touch-sensitive switches are all easy to find and use. We particularly like the familiarity and friendly operation of the mouse-like controller for the infotainment system. Front passengers are comfortable, and rear legroom is acceptable, if not great. As expected, the detail fit-and-finish is precisely impeccable. The Lexus LFA-inspired gauges in F Sport models, with their digital instrument cluster and sliding bezel, are attractive but difficult to justify, based on the costs of the F packages.

The IS exterior is a study in striking, almost rakish style and should not be mistaken for anything else on the road or at valet parking. The now-signature "spindle grille" dominates the front. Along the sides, the angles of the panels and surfaces wrap functional elements, such as the wide stance and long wheelbase that enhance stability. Little details abound; the wind-cheating underbody panels and vortex generators on the outside mirrors and taillights that improve aerodynamics. Like it or not (and we like it) the 2016 IS does not look like the near-twin of anything else in the segment.

This new Lexus IS is, as expected, comprehensively equipped. Standard are a moonroof, HID headlights with LED running lights, LED fog lights and 17-inch wheels. Inside, there's push-button start with keyless entry, Bluetooth and programmable Lexus Personalized Settings that allow certain electronic settings to be tailored to the owner's preference. A notable standard feature is Siri Eyes Free Mode, which accommodates better integration with the infotainment system and Apple's iPhones. There's also an 8-speaker audio system with a 7-inch VGA screen on the dash, USB and auxiliary inputs and a wide variety of additional comfort and convenience items.

The available navigation system on the Lexus IS sedan is among the best, and the same goes for the optional 15-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. The Premium Package includes a rearview camera and other nice features but, if you really want to go all the way, you should combine the Premium Plus Package with the loaded Luxury Package and end up with the Premium Package goodies, plus rain-sensing wipers, power-tilt/telescoping steering wheel, leather interior, wood trim, memory, Intuitive Parking Assist and several other high-tech items. The F Sport package adds sportier suspension and brakes and lots of sporty trim.

For 2016 the Lexus IS is offered with three engine choices. New for 2016, in the 200t, is an exciting and very high-tech 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes a rousing 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and is matched to an 8-speed automatic. We suggest you give it your consideration. The IS 300 AWD (All-Wheel Drive) has a 3.5-liter V6 of 255 horsepower. At the top is the IS 350 with a 3.5-liter V6 of 306 horsepower, matched with an 8-speed automatic. The IS 350 is also available with all-wheel drive, and both the IS 300 AWD and IS 350 AWD utilize a 6-speed automatic. It should be clear by now that, if you’re looking for a recommendation, we like the new IS 200t.2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4241 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm258 lb-ft of torque @ 1,650-4,400 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/32 mpg 3.5-liter V6255 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm236 lb-ft of torque @ 2,000-4,800 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/26 mpg3.5-liter V6306 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm277 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/28 mpg (rear-wheel drive), 19/26 mpg (all-wheel drive)

The 2016 Lexus IS 200t has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of a little over $ 38,000, including destination; we think it’s the best buy of the line. The IS 300 AWD is around $ 40,500, and includes the security of all-wheel drive. The IS 350 with rear-wheel drive is close to $ 42,000 and with all-wheel drive it’s around $ 44,000. These prices will be roughly in line with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but an Audi A4, BMW 3 Series or Cadillac ATS may start somewhat lower. Part of the problem with pricing is determining what, exactly, is meant by “comparably equipped.” The IS F models are roughly $ 3,000 more. Check out the Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for a 2016 Lexus IS. Finally, rest assured that the IS, like just about all Lexus vehicles, will maintain a relatively high resale value over time.

Lexus IS Overview and History

In 2015, Lexus brought a refreshed IS compact sedan. The 2014 IS sedan will be delivered with the promise of an engaging drive and better quality. Performance offered in a sleek daily use sedan. The Lexus IS C debuted on October 2, 2008 at the Paris Auto Show as the convertible version for the IS model, which for four years had only one body style.
If American car-manufacturer heads had been warned about a Japanese take-over in the mid 80's, they would have almost certainly laughed at the prospect. Humorous or not, the Japanese did conquer US, not through mecha led wars but rather through anime and cars. However, before the mild-assault began, there were a series of weird meetings held in secrecy in chairman chambers.

Such a meeting was held in 1983 between Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda and his company executives. Toyoda had not invited his enforcers over for cookies and tea but to question them about the possibility of developing a luxury-car line that could successfully compete with American brands. The project was labeled as F1 -Flahship 1- and proved to be a most lucrative  endeavor. The result was a vehicle that later became known as the Lexus LS 400 prior to its US premier.

The LS 400 was not just a car that took time and resources to built. In researching American luxury-product consumer habits and lifestyles, the Japanese went as far as renting a house in Laguna beach in order to observe their “subjects” closely. Offspring of long-gestating consumer research and cutting-edge engineering, the LX 400 was a hit.

Endorsed by insightful advertising, the LS 400 made its entrance at the North American Auto Show in Detroit, 1989 where it was one of the main attractions. And how could it not have been after 24 engineering teams and a few thousands employees worked on 450 prototypes at the cost of a paltry $ 1 billion investment?

The main advantage Lexus had over Acura, that had reached US markets 3 years before, was its uniqueness. Unlike the first Acura models which were sold as rebadged Hondas, the Lexus held little connections to Toyota design patterns.

Silent, ergonomic, powerful and reliable, the LS became a fierce competitor for European imports such as Mercedes Benz and BMW, whose sales drastically dropped following Lexus' trumpeting market entrance.

Models like the ES 250 followed which along the LS registered enough sales to allow the brand expanding through an 81-dealership network. During those first years of sales, Lexus became the top-selling luxury car in the U.S. Things were going smoothly for the Japanese manufacturer, just like its cars, and in 1991, two new models were released: the SC400 coupe and the ES 300 sedan. The latter was marketed as a replacement for the ES 250 and quickly became the company's best selling sedan.

Following the release of a heir to the LS 400 and the Toyota Aristo-based series of the GS, Lexus entered the sport utility vehicle segment in 1996 with the launch of the LX 450, a large car based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100. By 1998, Lexus would release the RX, a top-selling crossover based on Toyota's Camry model as well as a new series of the GS. During the following years, further technological improvements such as the introduction of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system on the 2005 RX 400h, resulted in an even greater sales increase.

Things were so good for Lexus that it has constantly grown since its inception. The brand has been introduced to the Japanese home-market in 2005 as well as it has in other regions of Asia and South America as well as Australia and Europe. By 2007, Lexus had spread in over 50 countries and it continues to grow. The company's “pursuit of perfection” is fronted by its current line-up, comprised of the IS, LS and RX series among others as well as the avant-garde LF-A concepts.

2016 Lexus IS Consumer Reviews

2016 Lexus IS
"Ugh...More cons than pros, Pros come with cons."
For me, The Lexus IS 200t was a very bad decision that I will spend the next decade paying for. Traded in a beastly BMW for it, and I miss it dearly. Pro - Design. Excellent styling. In and out, the design of this car is quite beautiful. It looks fast, and futuristic yet classic. Inch by inch there is a touch of elegance and class in the design. Con - The paint is extremely thin, and the interior door panels are pleather! They rip if you even sneeze on them. Pro - the seats are extremely comfortable. I love the heated and cooled seating. Con - no model seems to offer memory seats. Pro - The technology is very good, I like all the customization, and all the features. And I absolutely LOVE the gauge cluster that moves. Super cool little feature. Con - The display resets randomly and frequently. Goes completely blank for random amounts of time. Resets in navigation mode. Also you can't cancel a route. you can only pause it. this is very annoying. Pro - Its Turbo!! I love turbo...Especially two. This car is peppy, with decent power and torque. These days with the demand of seemingly opposite things, Power and fuel economy, I think this car does combine them well. HOWEVER.... Huge Con here - the Turbo lag is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. Are you reading this Lexus???? The atrocious turbo lag combined with an extremely LAZY transmission will frustrate you to no end. The computer forces the transmission into the highest gear possible at all times, probably for fuel econ. "Sport mode" does absolutely nothing but change the gauge colors. If you step on it to pass, or accelerate at all - prepare to read a book while you wait for the turbo to spool and for the transmission to decide in each gear to downshift to the next four gears. REDICULOUS. Why is this an issue?? Toyota has mastered the mechanics of the turbo and transmission symbiosis in years past. (Supra) I know everyone is less involved in the mechanical drive nowadays, but if they offered a six speed manual transmission, oh boy would I be happy and probably tons of other frustrated drivers. In the end, if you are looking for an aggressive sport sedan that can handle the driving style to which it is marketed, I would avoid this model. Perhaps the IS V6 is better, but I will never know. This is my fist and last Lexus. Should have went with the Infinity.

"Fun Toy to Drive!"
Lexus IS300 F sport, RWD This car is a very fun car that anyone can easily fall in love with and enjoy. The turbo is fun to have when pushing the car but it is not something I would consider a "performance" or "sports" car. The style is probably one of the best out in the market today when comparing sedans. I receive compliments almost every week, especially after the car is detailed. I really enjoy the car and given its a Lexus, I never have to worry about heavy maintenance bills or reliability issues.
