Lexus' new coupe comes in two main forms: the RC 350 and the RC F. The RC 350 is intended to be the mainstream model and the most popular seller, while the RC F is a more exclusive, track-ready high-performance machine. The RC 350 offers a satisfying and sporty ride. Its ride isn't as pillow-soft as a Lexus ES, nor is it intended to be. The RC's suspension is tuned to hug corners, which makes it stiff on rough roads. Highway cruising, however, is refined. The RC 350's 306-horsepower V6 offers plenty of gusto and transmits a surprisingly satisfying exhaust note. RWD models enjoy a smooth 8-speed transmission, while AWD variants use an older and slightly rougher 6-speed auto (the Lexus RC does not offer a manual transmission). The 467-horsepower RC F has two personalities. On the road it's as refined as the RC 350. On the track, it's an absolute howl.
G-SENSOR AI-SHIFT CONTROLReads like alphabet soup, works like magic. The 2015 RC coupe uses a G-force sensor to judge which gear is optimal when driven in the more aggressive Sport mode. This works well on a curvy road and shines on a track, where it makes novices feel anything but.MARK LEVINSON AUDIO WITH CLARI-FI TECHNOLOGYHow do you make today's low-res music worthy of a 17-speaker audiophile setup? The optional Mark Levinson system in the Lexus RC uses Clari-Fi technology to analyze a digital audio signal and correct and amplify as needed. It's among the first use of Clari-Fi in a car, adding to the RC's appeal.
We'd call the 2015 Lexus RC comfortably snug. Though it technically seats four passengers, the rear is very tight for adults, and the coupe's sloping roof is attractive on the outside but skull-scraping within. The situation is much improved up front where it counts. The seats are comfortable in all trims and feature extra bolstering in RC 350 F Sport and RC F models. With the 7-inch display, rounded dashboard and angled audio/climate control interface, the dash is a busy place. In AWD models, there’s a hump near the driver's right calf from the differential housing. Make sure this doesn't impede your driving position.
As with the interior, the Lexus RC's outward design is potentially polarizing. Some people may not even realize this is a Lexus. Known more for its conservative sedans, the automaker has deliberately gone for sex appeal with the RC. We believe it has worked with this coupe's prominent curves and muscular bulges. Every angle of the RC has interesting details. There's Lexus' signature spindle grille up front (RC F models get the extra-extra-large version, along with a raised hood to accommodate its V8), a smattering of fins on the sides, and twin tailpipes in back (the RC F boasts quad outlets).
A 2015 Lexus RC 350 coupe offers quite a bit even in base trim. Included are automatic climate control, HomeLink garage-door opener, Siri Eyes Free iPhone integration, self-dimming rearview mirror and 7-inch display screen. Audio entertainment is provided by a 10-speaker, 256-watt AM/FM/CD system with HD Radio (with complimentary traffic and weather data), dual USB inputs and Bluetooth streaming. F Sport models add variable suspension and Sport+ driving mode, heated and ventilated front seats, sport-tuned suspension and power-adjust steering wheel. Standard seat material is NuLuxe faux leather. RC F models include Brembo brakes, sport front seats and forged BBS aluminum wheels.
Enhancements for Lexus' 2-door performance coupe include navigation system that bundles a rearview camera, the Lexus Enform App suite with services such as Yelp, Pandora and stock prices, and a mouse-like touch pad to control it all; heated/ventilated front seats; leather interior; heated steering wheel; and moonroof. The Mark Levinson premium audio system (see Favorite Features) sounds excellent and is an easy recommendation for music lovers. Advanced safety features include blind-spot monitoring and a pre-collision system that can automatically brake the car. RC F models can add to their prowess with a torque-vectoring rear differential and carbon-fiber roof and rear spoiler.
The 2015 Lexus RC 350 and RC 350 F Sport coupes are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that makes an impressive 306 horsepower. That enables the RC 350 to sprint to 60 mph in 6 seconds or less. Power is transmitted through an 8-speed automatic transmission in RWD models and a 6-speed automatic transmission in AWD versions. The range-topping RC F boasts a 5.0-liter V8 that churns out 467 horsepower and enables Lexus' high-performance coupe to go 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 170 mph. The RC F also uses a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. The Lexus RC models have the edge against their BMW foes in power but are not as fuel-efficient.3.5-liter V6 306 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm277 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/28 mpg (RWD), 19/26 mpg (AWD)5.0-liter V8 467 horsepower @ 7,100 rpm389 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800-5,600 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/25 mpg
The new Lexus RC coupe starts with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) around $ 43,000 for a base RC 350. That is a few thousand beyond a base BMW 4 Series, but a couple of thousand less than a 4 Series with a 6-cylinder, which is standard in the Lexus. The RC 350 also arrives higher than a base Cadillac ATS coupe with 4-cylinder engine, but is in line with a V6-equipped ATS coupe. The same goes for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe. On the other end of the spectrum, the RC F starts around $ 63,000, in line with a BMW M4 coupe and several thousand below an Audi RS 5. With options, the RC 350 and RC F's prices can climb quickly. Before buying, check the Fair Purchase Price to see what others are paying. We have yet to predict the RC's residual value, but Lexus vehicles in general retain their value very well.
Toyota's luxury division is taking the fight to BMW more clearly than ever, with the RC coupe, a brand new nameplate that rivals the 4 Series.
If American car-manufacturer heads had been warned about a Japanese take-over in the mid 80's, they would have almost certainly laughed at the prospect. Humorous or not, the Japanese did conquer US, not through mecha led wars but rather through anime and cars. However, before the mild-assault began, there were a series of weird meetings held in secrecy in chairman chambers.
Such a meeting was held in 1983 between Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda and his company executives. Toyoda had not invited his enforcers over for cookies and tea but to question them about the possibility of developing a luxury-car line that could successfully compete with American brands. The project was labeled as F1 -Flahship 1- and proved to be a most lucrative endeavor. The result was a vehicle that later became known as the Lexus LS 400 prior to its US premier.
The LS 400 was not just a car that took time and resources to built. In researching American luxury-product consumer habits and lifestyles, the Japanese went as far as renting a house in Laguna beach in order to observe their “subjects” closely. Offspring of long-gestating consumer research and cutting-edge engineering, the LX 400 was a hit.
Endorsed by insightful advertising, the LS 400 made its entrance at the North American Auto Show in Detroit, 1989 where it was one of the main attractions. And how could it not have been after 24 engineering teams and a few thousands employees worked on 450 prototypes at the cost of a paltry $ 1 billion investment?
The main advantage Lexus had over Acura, that had reached US markets 3 years before, was its uniqueness. Unlike the first Acura models which were sold as rebadged Hondas, the Lexus held little connections to Toyota design patterns.
Silent, ergonomic, powerful and reliable, the LS became a fierce competitor for European imports such as Mercedes Benz and BMW, whose sales drastically dropped following Lexus' trumpeting market entrance.
Models like the ES 250 followed which along the LS registered enough sales to allow the brand expanding through an 81-dealership network. During those first years of sales, Lexus became the top-selling luxury car in the U.S. Things were going smoothly for the Japanese manufacturer, just like its cars, and in 1991, two new models were released: the SC400 coupe and the ES 300 sedan. The latter was marketed as a replacement for the ES 250 and quickly became the company's best selling sedan.
Following the release of a heir to the LS 400 and the Toyota Aristo-based series of the GS, Lexus entered the sport utility vehicle segment in 1996 with the launch of the LX 450, a large car based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100. By 1998, Lexus would release the RX, a top-selling crossover based on Toyota's Camry model as well as a new series of the GS. During the following years, further technological improvements such as the introduction of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system on the 2005 RX 400h, resulted in an even greater sales increase.
Things were so good for Lexus that it has constantly grown since its inception. The brand has been introduced to the Japanese home-market in 2005 as well as it has in other regions of Asia and South America as well as Australia and Europe. By 2007, Lexus had spread in over 50 countries and it continues to grow. The company's “pursuit of perfection” is fronted by its current line-up, comprised of the IS, LS and RX series among others as well as the avant-garde LF-A concepts.
2015 Lexus RC Consumer Reviews
colagyr,
Best car that I have owned
I have the AWD drive 350 F Sport. This car is a blast to drive and the quality is second to none. I would buy again in a heartbeat. It is a great combination of sporty and luxury. In normal mode it rides smooth, when put in Sport+ mode the suspension stiffens and it becomes a sports car. It's styling is a head turner.
egretpunctured,
The best car I've ever had
My Dad was GMC dealer growing up. We always had American cars. I later jumped to german and stayed there with VW, BMW and MBZ. NONE even come close to this car. It has a wide wheel base and sits lower to the ground than most cars. It is exceptionally stable on the road and has an incredible turning radius. Oh, and did I mention, this car has speed with optional performance shifting including paddle shifters. I will need to sell it (to someone deserving who gets it) when I move east in a couple of years but in the meantime I'm going to keep on enjoying the ride. As an aside, the regular service costs on this car are LOW when compared to the german counterparts. This car is so reliable it never needs anything but regular services and tires. Lexus makes a great car and I will get another.
luggmagnitude,
Amazing car!
For the price I could have gone with a faster car however for the amazing sound the NA V8 in the RC-F makes is worth the weight of the vehicle. I love the styling of the car as well and get compliments all the time on the way it looks! I enjoy the interior of the car and feel the build quality is definitely on point and exceeds other cars in the same price range. My only real gripe is the weight and handling as you can feel how heavy the car is when driving around.
potsubway,
Wasn't sure...but I am now!
I haven't had this much fun in a vehicle since I owned a convertible Saturn SKY from back in the day. This car is crazy fun, fast, and comfy. Creature comforts are insane and THE CAR TURNS HEADS. 300 miles on a fill up, great hwy mileage and the Lexis Premium Sound system...all stand outs for me.
dimmerhamilton,
Very fun car
I've owned my RC350 coupe with the F Sport package for almost a year now. This has been one of the funnest cars I've owned. I have the pearl orange color and I get people taking pictures and giving me the thumbs up every where I go. The car handles great and has a good amount of power. We live in a very snowy climate and I can't say enough about the handling in icy/snowy conditions. The ease of using all of the controls is fantastic.
cowsstar,
good riding & handling coupe
Corners really well. Plenty of zip. I own the AWD version which has a quick shifting 6spd transmission with manual controls. Very quiet ride for a car that handles this well.
Nice finish inside, plenty of electronics for phone, music, and navigation. 'Trackpad too sensitive' is something a few other reviewers comment on. I adjusted the sensitivity down and prefer the trackpad to a touchscreen. And the coupe looks great compared to its competition.
wranglehyndburn,
great two door sports car,
Great handling and horse power, looks great on the street. Very responsive
The clear plastic cover in front of Gauges in front of driver has a glare from sun light and you can't read gauges a good part of the time.
Lower strip of trim on grill is painted very poorly, not professional, flat finish no clear or hard cover.

"Great sporty car"
Fun car to drive. Lots of features, but missing some important ones. Fit & Finish is first class. Interior is a great design. Back seat is of little value. Basically a two-seater. Luggage space is fantastic when back seats are turned down.

2017 Lexus RC
"A rare gem!!!"
This is by far my favorite car I've owned, and I've owned tons. The performance, the reliability, and the fit-and-finish of this car leaves nothing to be desired. The build quality is masterful, and the looks you get from passers by highlight the rarity of this machine.
The only thing I'm not the biggest fan of is the infotainment system, although that is a personal preference item, not a knock on the car itself.
