For 2016 the new Lexus RC lineup expands to four models this year, with the addition of two new engines resulting in two new models. The new RC 200t and RC 300 AWD promise the same sharp reflexes we've already enjoyed in the RC 350, albeit with slightly less power. Regardless of powertrain, the 2016 RC promises a satisfying and sporty ride; if you're expecting the pillow-soft ride of a Lexus ES you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting something that can handle tight corners and put a smile on the face of even a demanding driver, you'll be very happy. The stiff suspension makes rough roads uncomfortable, but the highway ride is nicely refined. However, if you're looking for the ultimate track-ready Lexus, there's the 467-horsepower RC F. While it's as refined as the RC 350 around town, on the racetrack it's a beast...and a blast.
G-SENSOR AI-SHIFT CONTROLThe 2016 RC uses a highly sophisticated 8-speed automatic transmission that has a G-force sensor to determine the optimal gear when the car is driven aggressively in the Sport mode. The upshot is that it's in the right gear whenever you need it, making even amateurs feel like heroes.MARK LEVINSON AUDIO WITH CLARI-FI TECHNOLOGYPeople have traded in their CDs for iPods, but they still want high-quality sound. The 2016 Lexus RC makes it a reality through the use of its optional Mark Levinson system with Clari-Fi technology. It analyzes a digital audio signal, correctly amplifying it as needed.
The 2016 RC is definitely snug, but it's comfortable, at least up front. There are four seatbelts, but in reality the rear seat is way too small for adults, and even anybody older than a toddler. Up front is a much different story. The seats are comfortable in all trims and feature extra bolstering in RC Sport and RC F models. With the 7-inch display, rounded dashboard and angled audio/climate control interface, the dash is a busy place. In AWD models, there’s a hump near the driver's right calf from the differential housing that might impede your driving position.
While it's great that Lexus is pushing its styling envelope, not everyone loves the new direction. In fact, it's a little hard to believe this wild-looking luxury coupe is a Lexus at all, which may be the point. For the most part we think it works here. The angles and muscular bulges are eye-catching at the very least, and give this coupe a distinctive look compared to its European and American competitors. From the Lexus "spindle" grille – extra-large on the RC F model – to the fins on the sides, and other details, there's nothing else like it.
The 2016 RC comes as nicely equipped as you'd expect of a luxury-sports coupe. There are standard automatic climate control, a self-dimming rearview mirror, and an infotainment system with a 7-inch display screen, rearview camera, and Lexus Enform Service Connect service. The 10-speaker audio system includes HD Radio, dual USB inputs and Bluetooth streaming with Eyes Free iPhone integration. F Sport models get standard variable suspension and Sport+ driving mode, heated and ventilated front seats, a suspension tuned for higher performance, and a power-adjust steering wheel. RC F models include bigger brakes, front sport seats and forged BBS aluminum wheels.
The options list starts with a navigation system that uses a touch-pad controller and includes an upgraded Enform suite with services such as Yelp, Pandora and stock prices. There are also heated/ventilated front seats, a leather interior, heated steering wheel and a moonroof. The Mark Levinson premium audio system makes even your iPod sound amazing, and should be top of the list for music lovers. Advanced safety features include blind-spot monitoring and a pre-collision system that can automatically brake the car. RC F models can add to their prowess with a torque-vectoring rear differential and carbon-fiber roof and rear spoiler.
Two new engines join the 2016 Lexus RC lineup. Filling out the bottom end is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower in the RC 200t. The 2016 RC 300 AWD comes with a 3.5-liter V6 putting out 255 horsepower, while the RC 350 and 350 AWD share the same 3.5-liter 306-horsepower V6 from last year. Power for rear-wheel-drive Lexus RC models is routed through an 8-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive models have to make do with an older, less responsive 6-speed automatic. Topping the range is the 5.0-liter 467-horsepower V8 in the RC F, which is also connected to an 8-speed automatic. Note that while Lexus RC models have an edge against their BMW foes in horsepower, they aren't quite as fuel-efficient.2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4241 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm258 lb-ft of torque @ 1,650-4,400 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/32 mpg 3.5-liter V6 255 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm236 lb-ft of torque @ 2,000-4,800 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/26 mpg3.5-liter V6 306 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm277 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/28 mpg (RWD), 19/26 mpg (AWD)5.0-liter V8 467 horsepower @ 7,100 rpm389 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800-5,600 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/25 mpg
With a new engine comes a new base price, and the 2016 Lexus RC 200t has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) just under the $ 41,000 mark, including the $ 940 destination charge. If you want all-wheel drive, the RC 300 AWD starts at about $ 43,550, roughly the same as a rear-wheel-drive RC 350. The AWD RC 350 starts just under $ 46,000. Those prices are a little less than for a BMW 4 Series or Audi A5, but quite a bit more than the excellent new Cadillac ATS coupe. If you're looking to endanger your license, the RC F starts a little below $ 64,000, in line with a BMW M4 coupe and several thousand below an Audi RS 5. Prices climb quickly once you start adding options. Do check the Fair Purchase Price to see what others are paying, and note that the RC should retain its value very nicely.
Toyota's luxury division is taking the fight to BMW more clearly than ever, with the RC coupe, a brand new nameplate that rivals the 4 Series.
If American car-manufacturer heads had been warned about a Japanese take-over in the mid 80's, they would have almost certainly laughed at the prospect. Humorous or not, the Japanese did conquer US, not through mecha led wars but rather through anime and cars. However, before the mild-assault began, there were a series of weird meetings held in secrecy in chairman chambers.
Such a meeting was held in 1983 between Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda and his company executives. Toyoda had not invited his enforcers over for cookies and tea but to question them about the possibility of developing a luxury-car line that could successfully compete with American brands. The project was labeled as F1 -Flahship 1- and proved to be a most lucrative endeavor. The result was a vehicle that later became known as the Lexus LS 400 prior to its US premier.
The LS 400 was not just a car that took time and resources to built. In researching American luxury-product consumer habits and lifestyles, the Japanese went as far as renting a house in Laguna beach in order to observe their “subjects” closely. Offspring of long-gestating consumer research and cutting-edge engineering, the LX 400 was a hit.
Endorsed by insightful advertising, the LS 400 made its entrance at the North American Auto Show in Detroit, 1989 where it was one of the main attractions. And how could it not have been after 24 engineering teams and a few thousands employees worked on 450 prototypes at the cost of a paltry $ 1 billion investment?
The main advantage Lexus had over Acura, that had reached US markets 3 years before, was its uniqueness. Unlike the first Acura models which were sold as rebadged Hondas, the Lexus held little connections to Toyota design patterns.
Silent, ergonomic, powerful and reliable, the LS became a fierce competitor for European imports such as Mercedes Benz and BMW, whose sales drastically dropped following Lexus' trumpeting market entrance.
Models like the ES 250 followed which along the LS registered enough sales to allow the brand expanding through an 81-dealership network. During those first years of sales, Lexus became the top-selling luxury car in the U.S. Things were going smoothly for the Japanese manufacturer, just like its cars, and in 1991, two new models were released: the SC400 coupe and the ES 300 sedan. The latter was marketed as a replacement for the ES 250 and quickly became the company's best selling sedan.
Following the release of a heir to the LS 400 and the Toyota Aristo-based series of the GS, Lexus entered the sport utility vehicle segment in 1996 with the launch of the LX 450, a large car based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100. By 1998, Lexus would release the RX, a top-selling crossover based on Toyota's Camry model as well as a new series of the GS. During the following years, further technological improvements such as the introduction of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system on the 2005 RX 400h, resulted in an even greater sales increase.
Things were so good for Lexus that it has constantly grown since its inception. The brand has been introduced to the Japanese home-market in 2005 as well as it has in other regions of Asia and South America as well as Australia and Europe. By 2007, Lexus had spread in over 50 countries and it continues to grow. The company's “pursuit of perfection” is fronted by its current line-up, comprised of the IS, LS and RX series among others as well as the avant-garde LF-A concepts.

Reliable Cruiser f or Two
Car is exactly what I expected. Extremely reliable and comfortable for two people. Great quality. Back seat is designed to be folded down to hold stuff, not people. Even children would not really fit back there. AWD is very useful and car is great in snow with winter tires but only marginally adequate with the higher performance tires the F Sport comes with. I have not had one reliability issue with the car. Just routine maintenance every 5K miles which is far more frequent than mfr. recommends. Car is quiet on the highway, has adequate power for a small, normally aspirated V6 and cruises at 80 effortlessly. Car receives lots of compliments from people on its great looks. My only complaint is with the size and weight of the doors. They are huge and heavy. People with slight builds or weak arms will likely find them difficult to manage, especially on less than flat surfaces. Rear access is challenging even with their large size. Trunk is adequate for most daily needs and road trips but not suitable for large items. Overall a great car and will meet your needs if they don’t include more than two people.
favouritedisband,
very good handling, smooth & quiet,
a pleasure to drive with quick smooth steering and acceleration. very quiet steady ride. great for one or two people. good legroom and reasonably easy to get in and out if there is room to open the large doors. seats very supportive

Excellent quality, very good performance, reliable
Overall, a very nice sport coupe. Lexus does a superior job in the quality department. Car runs with very little maintenance required. Consistent and reliable. Its performance is pretty good, but when compared to my 2003 BMW 5301, it does not quite hold the road as well in a tight turn; although, the quality is much better than my BMW. Over 100K miles, my BMW became a maintenance nightmare. I would have preferred a manual transmission or a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) like Porsches PDK in my RC350 F Sport. Id also like to see a small block turbocharged engine as an option. Finally, interior style-wise. Id like to see the RC morph into something that looks more like the LCs interior versus an IS350 interior.

Honestly this was the first car I did not purchase for practicality. I just wanted this car. Its sexy, sporty, fun to drive and not commonly seen on the road.
Over the past few years I have owned Honda Accords, MB C Class, BMW 3 series, Cadillac Escalade, Range Rover, Cadillac ATS and this car to me is my favorite. I dont keep a car longer than 24 months, but expect to keep this for longer. I have a daily driver for when my kids are with me but when its just me or if I have a little road trip or a date night I pull this beast out.
I get a lot of people who want to know about the car, take pics, and want to ride in it with me.
The MPGs are great but I didnt expect it to be. I got the RC350 Fsport.
My only complaint is actually something I see and hear a lot of praise about. I cant figure out how to get the audio to turn up to an audible level that i can enjoy. Every site I have been to says this car has an unparalleled sound experience yet I have not had that experience.

Lexus 300 AWD F Sport
I did a lot of research before I purchased this car. I was looking for a 6-cylinder, reliable, safe, AWD car or SUV, that gets good gas mileage. I drive 70 miles round-trip to commute to work. This is an awesome all around car. It is really fun to drive, handles great, it is safe (IIHS Safety Pick+), comfortable, and it is expected to be highly reliable. The AWD sealed the deal for me, because I am a skier. I will admit that I do not ever intend to take this car out on the race trace. However, for commuting to work and driving around town, it is just perfect. I love the way it looks too. I know that the grille is a bit controversial for some, but it looks really nice on this car. The five-year cost to own is great too.

Finest automobile I have ever owned.
Though I have owned two other Lexus autos, an Audi, and three Cadillacs, my RC300 is at the next level. The craftsmanship, beauty, ride, and "class" are unparalleled. I did not purchase it to use the back seat for passengers. Nor did I expect it to be a "Road and Track" driving machine. It is a superlative compromise between its driving ability and ride. My wife gives it a 10 out of 10, as do I. A fantastic automobile!
begottrickle,
Purchased for wife she loves this car
Plenty of room for driver and passenger, but don't use the back seat. We bought the car for two people and it's awesome. You should have seen the sales person trying to get in and out of the back seat. LOL This car is a true sports car that will make anyone happy to drive. It's got all the bells and whistles. My wife smiles every time she gets behind the wheel. The sound system is out of this world !!

2018 Lexus RC
"Great sporty car"
Fun car to drive. Lots of features, but missing some important ones. Fit & Finish is first class. Interior is a great design. Back seat is of little value. Basically a two-seater. Luggage space is fantastic when back seats are turned down.

2015 Lexus RC
"Amazing car!"
For the price I could have gone with a faster car however for the amazing sound the NA V8 in the RC-F makes is worth the weight of the vehicle. I love the styling of the car as well and get compliments all the time on the way it looks! I enjoy the interior of the car and feel the build quality is definitely on point and exceeds other cars in the same price range. My only real gripe is the weight and handling as you can feel how heavy the car is when driving around.

2017 Lexus RC
"A rare gem!!!"
This is by far my favorite car I've owned, and I've owned tons. The performance, the reliability, and the fit-and-finish of this car leaves nothing to be desired. The build quality is masterful, and the looks you get from passers by highlight the rarity of this machine.
The only thing I'm not the biggest fan of is the infotainment system, although that is a personal preference item, not a knock on the car itself.
