From ultra luxury to ultra performance, the 2013 Porsche Panamera is the "everything to everybody" sedan.

The 2013 Porsche Panamera luxury sport sedan carries an ever-expanding portfolio of performance credentials. The Panamera lineup now includes rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, naturally aspirated and turbocharged models. There's even a gasoline-electric Panamera S Hybrid.

For 2013, Porsche fills the almost-imperceptible gap between the 4S and Turbo models with the new Panamera GTS that has attributes of its bookend brethren in one specially configured sedan. And this year also brings a fancier version of the entry-level V6 car, dubbed Platinum. These latest additions bring the impressive Panamera lineup to a total of 10 cars from which to choose. Among them, the list prices are separated by a cavernous $ 100,000, while engine output ranges from a respectable 300 horsepower to an awe-inspiring 550 hp.

Regardless of model, the interior of the Panamera is at once luxurious and purposeful. With uncharacteristically comfortable seating for four adults, the utility of this sport sedan is further aided by the unique hatchback configuration that allows for ample luggage space or, when needed, generous cargo capacity when its rear seats are folded forward.

All models are well equipped for their price points, and Porsche has now made Bluetooth connectivity standard across the entire model line. As is the case with this luxury sport sedan segment -- and with Porsche in particular -- options can accumulate quickly and inflate the bottom line. Those options include luxurious items such as heated and ventilated articulating rear seats, video screens, dynamic enhancements like active suspension and carbon-ceramic brake discs, and the latest technology such as blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.

In terms of competition, the 2013 BMW 7 Series, 2013 Jaguar XJ, Maserati Quattroporte and 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class are all worthy of consideration. Most are prettier, some are more stately and some are better bargains. Yet the 2013 Porsche Panamera is our pick for a car that delivers more of everything to everybody.

The 2013 Porsche Panamera is a four-door four-passenger sedan with a hatchback-style trunk. There are 10 trim levels: Base, Platinum, Base 4, Platinum 4, S Hybrid, S, 4S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S.

The base rear-wheel-drive Panamera is powered by a V6 and includes 18-inch wheels, automatic xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, a sunroof, a power rear hatch and auto-dimming mirrors.

Standard features within the cabin include dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, eight-way power front seats, driver memory functions, a chilled glovebox, partial leather upholstery and a 60/40-split rear seatback. Also standard are a navigation system and an 11-speaker sound system with Bluetooth, a USB/iPod interface and an auxiliary audio jack. The Panamera 4 differs only in that it has all-wheel drive. The Panamera S Hybrid is also very similarly equipped.

The Platinum and Platinum 4 trims are similar to their base brethren but dress things up and increase the luxury factor by adding 19-inch Turbo-style wheels, bi-xenon headlights, special exterior accents, upgraded leather upholstery, 14-way power seats, heated front and rear seats, front and rear park assist, a navigation system, a sport steering wheel (with paddle shifters) and unique door sill trim plates.

The V8-powered Panamera S and all-wheel-drive 4S include all of the features found in the non-hybrid base V6 models, plus an adaptive suspension, heated front seats, adaptive headlights and additional interior lighting.

The V8-powered GTS receives a 30-horsepower increase over the 4S, and blends all of its features with many from the Turbo. For instance, standard items include 19-inch wheels, 18-way active front seats with faux-suede inserts, a sport-design steering wheel with paddle shifting, and specific interior and exterior trim.

As their names suggest, the Panamera Turbo and Turbo S add a turbocharged V8, 19-inch wheels (20 inches on Turbo S), an adaptive air suspension (with load-leveling and adjustable ride height), front parking sensors, keyless ignition/entry, 14-way power front seats with adjustable lumbar support, expanded driver memory functions, a power-adjustable steering column, heated rear seats, a full leather interior, a microfiber suede headliner and a 14-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system with satellite radio and HD functionality.

In typical Porsche tradition, a very lengthy and expensive list of options allows buyers to easily customize the cars. For example, other than their engines, all of the extra features of the Turbo model are available on the S and 4S.

Other options include adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist, ceramic-composite brakes, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (adaptive antiroll bars and a limited-slip rear differential), a rear windshield wiper, ventilated front and rear seats, eight-way power rear seats (switches seat-folding to 40/20/40), adaptive sport front seats that include adjustable side bolsters, "ruffled" leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, four-zone climate control, rear sunshades, rear ambient lighting, a rear-seat entertainment system, a rear-seat refrigerator, a rearview camera, voice control, a six-CD changer and a 16-speaker Burmester surround-sound audio system.

The Sport Chrono Package Plus adds analog and digital stopwatches and adjustable engine and suspension settings. The Sport Design package dresses up the Panamera's exterior with a special front fascia with wider intake grilles and side skirts. There are also countless ways to customize practically every interior surface with different shades of leather, wood, metal, carbon fiber and paint.

The 2013 Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4 are powered by a front-mounted 3.6-liter V6 that produces 300 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. In recent testing by , the base Panamera V6 accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.

One notable feature on all Panameras is an auto stop-start function that reduces fuel consumption by shutting off the engine whenever the car comes to a stop and then restarting it automatically when you're ready to proceed. The EPA estimates fuel consumption at 18 mpg city/27 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined for the base Panamera, while the Panamera 4 makes 18/26/21 mpg.

The Porsche Panamera S and 4S receive a 4.8-liter V8 good for 400 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The V8-powered Panamera 4S impressed us with a 0-60-mph run of 4.6 seconds. The V8-powered Panamera S and 4S are both rated at 16/24/19 mpg. The GTS's 430-hp 4.8-liter V8 makes 384 lb-ft of torque and suffers only a small fuel penalty with its 16/23/19 mpg. The new GTS was incrementally quicker than the 4S and our testing produced a 0-60-mph time of 4.1 seconds.

The Panamera Turbo gets a twin-turbocharged version of the same V8 for a grand total of 500 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Adding the optional Sport Chrono Turbo package temporarily increases torque to 568 lb-ft with a turbo overboost. The new Turbo S dials output up to 550 hp and 553 lb-ft (590 lb-ft with overboost). The Panamera Turbo and Turbo S left us awestruck, turning in identical 3.7-second blasts to 60 mph. These Turbo models achieve only 15/23/18 mpg.

Every gasoline-only Panamera is equipped with a seven-speed double-clutch automated manual transmission. The Panamera and Panamera S offer rear-wheel drive, while the Panamera 4, 4S and Turbo are equipped with all-wheel drive.

The Panamera S Hybrid receives a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that is paired with a 35kW electric motor for a combined maximum output of 380 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. The only available transmission is an eight-speed automatic with manual shift control that sends power to the rear wheels. The Panamera S Hybrid accelerated to 60 mph in a very respectable 5.2 seconds. Naturally, the hybrid generates the most favorable fuel economy numbers, at an estimated 22/30/25 mpg.

Every 2013 Porsche Panamera comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and front knee airbags. Ceramic-composite brakes and a rearview camera are optional. With the standard brakes, both the Panamera 4S and Turbo models stopped from 60 mph in incredibly short distances: 109 feet and 112 feet, respectively. The Hybrid also posts a 112-foot distance. The GTS equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes stopped repeatedly in 110 fade-free feet.

The 2013 Porsche Panamera is an accomplished, luxurious grand touring car as well as an engaging, shockingly capable high-performance car. Engine output ranges from the Panamera V6's adequate 300 hp to the Turbo S's mind-blowing 550 hp.

Regardless, every Panamera offers several driving modes to suit a driver's preference or environment. Normal mode endows a soft and leisurely personality, as any European flagship sedan would have. Engaging full Sport mode can sharpen nearly every aspect of the driving dynamics: throttle response, transmission behavior, suspension firmness and ride height. Buyers can further select from a cadre of highly effective performance-enhancing upgrades. From a sporting standpoint, the Hybrid is the least engaging, though it counters with excellent fuel economy and an exceptionally quiet cabin.

The V8-powered Panamera is capable of incredible performance and the turbocharged V8 borders on supercar acceleration. Yet power can be served up in measured increments or muscle-car wallops. The PDK transmission fires off gearchanges with urgency when you're pedaling the accelerator hard, or with seamless and fluid transitions when cruising down the highway. Steering is always precise and handling is comparable to that of much, much smaller sports cars. True, it won't win any beauty contests, but the Porsche Panamera truly does deliver the best of both worlds, sports car and sedan all in one.

From the driver seat, there's no mistaking the Panamera's interior for anything but a Porsche, because styling cues from the Porsche 911 echo throughout the cabin. The tachometer is centered in the trademark five-ring instrument cluster and flanked by the speedometer, a multifunction display and supporting gauges.

The Panamera lacks a centralized control system like BMW's iDrive, and as a result, there are more than 80 buttons and knobs littering the cockpit. Fortunately, these buttons are logically grouped and placed, and after a short time, operation becomes intuitive. Some might even find the multitude of controls preferable to shuffling through multilevel on-screen menus.

All four seats are similar in appearance and comfort. These well-formed seats have integrated headrests and provide excellent levels of support when cornering as well as plenty of comfort during long-distance touring. The rear quarters afford enough room for tall adults, and the seats can be fitted with options to make them power-adjustable, heated and cooled. The hatchback-style trunk can hold an impressive 15.7 cubic feet (11.8 with the Hybrid) and 44.6 cubes with the rear seats folded flat (the Hybrid S drops to 40.7 cubes). The hatch opening is a bit narrow, though, and the cargo bed is high, complicating the loading of bulkier or heavier items.

Describing the 2013 Porsche Panamera driving experience can quickly suck a lot of superlatives out of the dictionary, and its limits are for exploration by only the most skilled drivers. Even the base model, with the 300-horsepower V6, delivers impressive performance, and the increasingly more-powerful versions go all the way to incredibly awesome. It’s not a lightweight, at two tons or more, so it lacks the quick, sweet nimbleness you would expect from, say, a 911. But it combines athletic steering response with resolute down-the-road stability. The sophisticated suspension deals with anything the pavement serves up, the brakes set the standard for stopping performance, and the sum is an overall competence that makes ordinary drivers feel like heroes. This praise is not extended to the S Hybrid, which dulls the steering and braking edge – the big reasons for buying a Porsche in the first place.

EXTERIOR STYLINGOn a highway, at track day, or pulling up to the valet at an overpriced restaurant, the 2013 Panamera makes a visual statement that is unmistakable as to its overall purpose in life. This thing has stage presence.OVERALL PERFORMANCEUntil you've driven a Porsche Panamera, it's difficult to imagine the overall level of competence and authority it has on the road – any road. On Interstates it's an impeccable long-distance, long-hours road warrior; on city streets it's smooth and luxurious; and on devilish curves its capabilities are beyond reproach.

Because the seats in the 2013 Porsche Panamera 4-door sit low, getting in or out can take patience. The interior is a statement to Porsche luxury and technology, and fit and finish is impeccable. Seating is terrific for those in front, with plenty of space even for taller folks, but less so for those in the rear, where the low seats, high sills and front-seat headrests severely limit the outward view. Expectedly, the sound system is magnificent and there is enough technology to suit the most committed early-adopter, but we counted about 75 control functions that are reachable from the driver's seat.

While Porsche's reputation was built on the racetracks of the world and that competition heritage is certainly the single-most significant aspect of the marketing message, the unmistakable "Porsche-ness" of the exterior shapes of all the company's products ties them together like pictures on a family greeting card. Even with four doors, there is no confusing that the 2013 Panamera is a Porsche. The smoothly rounded shape, the almost genetically-linked front end, the side-window outline, the big tires filling out the fenders and the taillight treatment leave no doubt of the Panamera's relationship to other Porsches.

Standard equipment on the 2013 Porsche Panamera base version, besides all the usual luxury items appropriate for the price range, includes a slide/tilt moonroof, electronically-controlled shock absorbers, Porsche Stability Management, hard-drive-based navigation, an automatic liftgate, ParkAssist, Bluetooth, 8-way power front seats, and a host of additional luxury, convenience and safety features.

With a vehicle that offers paint and leather upholstery to match provided samples, you would be correct in guessing the list of available options is lengthy. Those options include sound systems from Burmester and Bose, Porsche Rear-Seat Entertainment with swiveling 7-inch screens, Lane Change Assist, adaptive cruise control, thermally- and noise-insulated glass, and 4-zone automatic climate control – which allows separate adjustment of air temperature, blower intensity and air distribution for each seat.

For 2013, the base rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4 – "4" is Porsche shorthand for all-wheel drive (AWD) – are powered by a 300-horsepower 3.6-liter all-aluminum V6. The other models (except the S Hybrid) have various versions of a 4.8-liter all-aluminum V8, which varies from 400 horsepower in the Panamera S and 4S models all the way up to 550 hp in the Turbo S. All Panamera models, except the S Hybrid, have a 7-speed automatic transmission with manual control. No manual transmission is offered. The Panamera S Hybrid has a 3.0-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic, and the total system output is 380 horsepower. It is difficult to pick a favorite Porsche Panamera, as even the 3.6-liter V6 delivers sparkling performance and response.3.6-liter V6300 horsepower @ 6,200 rpm295 lb-ft of torque @ 3,750 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 18/27 mpg (RWD), 18/26 mpg (AWD)4.8-liter V8400 horsepower @ 6,500 rpm369 lb-ft of torque @ 3,500-5,000 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/24 mpg4.8-liter V8430 horsepower @ 6,700 rpm384 lb-ft of torque @ 3,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/23 mpg4.8-liter twin-turbo V8500 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm516 lb-ft of torque @ 2,250-4,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 15/23 mpg4.8-liter twin-turbo V8550 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm553 lb-ft of torque @ 2,250-4,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 15/23 mpg3.0-liter V6 with hybrid electric motor380 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm (total system)428 lb-ft of torque @ 1,000 rpm (total system)EPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/30 mpg

The 2013 Porsche Panamera has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of right around $ 75,000, which is very near the base prices of the Jaguar XJ Series, the BMW 7 Series and the Lexus LS 460 L. Adding the AWD of the Panamera 4 bumps the price to about $ 81,500. The V8-powered S and 4S are about $ 92,000 and $ 97,000, respectively, the Turbo model starts around $ 140,000, and the top-of-the-line Turbo S has a starting price just over $ 175,000 – adding Porsche options can increase that dramatically. The S Hybrid starts at about $ 96,000, but can easily be optioned to well over $ 110,000. Be sure and check out KBB's Fair Purchase Price and see what others in your area are paying for the 2013 Porsche Panamera. Residual values can be expected to be on par with, or perhaps slightly higher than, those for the BMW and Lexus, and considerably higher than those for the Jaguar.

2013 Porsche Panamera Previous Generations

2013 Porsche Panamera Future Generations

Porsche Panamera Overview and History

The 2013 Porsche Panamera facelift brought a series of small design changes, including headlights, stoplights and bumpers, along with new rims and colors. Porsche first presented the Panamera (970) during the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, a month before production kicked off in its plant in Leipzig, Germany (where the Cayenne is also being built).
Who hasn't heard of Porsche? In 2006 it won the most prestigious automobile brand for over 70 years of excellence and dedication to the four-wheel god. Established at first as a consulting and development company by Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche in 1931, Porsche SE has since become synonymous with luxurious sports cars as well as cutting edge technology.

Situated in downtown Stuttgart, Porsche's first contract of developing a people's car, a Volkswagen, appointed by the German government. The result was one of the most famous cars in history, one of the best sold and one of the most easily recognizable out there, the Beetle. Many features of the Beetle would find their place on the first ever Porsche, the 64, developed in 1939.

During WWII the Porsche factory turned to making vehicles for the German Army, such as the Kubelwagen and the Schwimmwagen as well as contributing to the production of Tiger and Elefant tanks. After the war Ferdinand was imprisoned for war crimes for 20 months and was during that time that his son, Ferry Porsche, decided to build a new car to suit his needs – the 356.

The success of the 356 and the death of Ferdinand Porsche in 1951 gave Ferry the confidence to follow in his father's footsteps and continue designing cars. One of his most famous designs was the Spyder 550, a car that would prove very successful in races.

By now, the general line of the company seemed evident, as in 1964 another sporty model, the 911, another car with a air-cooled, boxer, rear-mounted engine. The design team for this car was led by Ferry's oldest son, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. this car would take the legacy of the 550 Spyder even further, winning races and rallies. Testimony to the success of the 911 is the fact that it's still in production today, despite being heavily modified.

Porsche was going to change its status in 1972 from a limited partnership to a public limited company, which meant that now Porsche would be run by a board of directors supervised by family members. In 1974, at the Paris Auto Show, Porsche unveils the new 911 Turbo, with exhaust turbocharger and pressure regulator.

When the 924 was entered in production in 1975, Porsche took a leap of faith because it had not experienced with front-mounted engines for a long time. By Porsche standards, the 928 was an oddity, with its front-mounted V8 engine made out of  metal alloy. Then, in 1981, a new transaxle model is added to the Porsche line-up, the 944. The high-performance Porsche 959 is unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1985. It will go on to win a lot of races and rallies, the best known  being the Paris-Dakar.

A new technological leap was made in 1988 when the 911 Carrera 4 with all-wheel drive was introduced on the market. Then, in 1989, the “Tiptronic” automatic gearbox system is fitted on Porsches. In 1991, Porsche becomes the first car manufacturer to fit driver and passenger airbags on all its models.

The Boxter model is introduced in 1996 after 3 and a half years of development. That same year, Porsche celebrates 1million units being produced. Two years later, Ferry Porsche dies at the age of 88 but the company moves on and has a great season at Le Mans with the 911 GT1, coming in first and second. This was going to be only the beginning for Porsche, which continued with the very sporty and high-performance models Boxster S and the Carrera GT in 2000.

In 2002 Porsche entered the SUV market with the unconventional Cayenne and its later versions, the Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S. The next model on the line-up for Porsche, announced for 2009 is the Panamera, a four-door sedan. With this new model, Porsche seems set to take on a whole new market, directly competing with other luxury brands such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi.

2013 Porsche Panamera Consumer Reviews

Fantastic and Sublime
This is one great car. Basically, a four door sport car with strong acceleration and precise handling. The four wheel drive really pulls the car through curves. The double clutch transmission makes almost instantaneous shifts when using the paddles. The cabin is strikingly attractive and very comfortable. I found the touch screen communication system very easy to learn and the Bose sound system is awesome. This car elicits attention no doubt. I've had multiple people take pictures of the car and many others asking questions. If you are looking for anonymity, this is not the car for you.

2016 Porsche Panamera
"Great vehicle to drive"
I love this car. As amazing as it sounds it is a great value. Very comfortable to drive, great features, and very good gas mileage with the hybrid technology. I consistantly get 20-25 miles from the battery then 30 mpg or so when using the engine. The way this car carves up long drives, with four adults is fantastic. It is a great car for a 2-6 hour car drive. Not the car for a long road trip with 4 people due to limited trunk space. This car draws looks and thumbs up everywhere I go.

2015 Porsche Panamera
"Excellent luxury/sport sedan"
The Panamera S e-Hybrid is a comfortable, quiet, luxurious, fast, good handling, good riding sedan that is rightly called a four door 911. A push of the Sport button is all it takes to transform it into a highly competent sports sedan. The electric motor allows me to go to the store and back (11 miles) without using any gasoline. Plus it saves gas in stop and go traffic. The hatchback and folding rear seats allow it carry an amazing amount of cargo.

2014 Porsche Panamera
"Perfection"
In 2016 I cancled the purchase of a 2014 Panamera with 4K miles for 73k and I changed the order for a new 2016 cayenne since it was mostly for work. Best decision I’ve ever made. 3 years later I had the opportunity to buy a 2014 Panamera metallic gray with cognac leather interior. The orig sticker was 111k. The current price point is perfect. I found one with 18 months left on the porsche Cpo warranty. I feel so lucky. The car is so perfect. The interior is beautiful. The handling is perfect under all circumstances. The car gets a lot of looks everywhere you go. The car can easy be maintained at local porsche mechanic relatively in expensive. Easy to maintain. I’m hoping to keep this vehicle for many years to come. It’s a great vehicle to add to my collection. I suggest taking your time looking for your perfect exterior color& int color. Try finding one with CPO warranty just in case you have any Issues.

I have owned and still have a 2009 Kia amanti it is now 2024 I have 51000 miles on this car excellent handling in all weather except ice and deep snow very fast in traffic I think the handling is tight and responsive. My spouse has driven this on the interstate frequently and the first thing he did was get it up to 220 mph at this speed is floaty but under 80 mph just a pleasure to drive *****
