Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 6
When a P0206 code is seen, the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected either voltage or resistance that is out of specification in the fuel injector circuit for cylinder 6.
Check Engine Light is triggered by the ECM and observed on the dashboard
Failsafe mode (precaution to prevent damage to your 2008 Saturn Vue ) is enacted by the ECM
Failsafe mode remains in effect until the circuit has performance that is within range or the fault is repaired
Engine runs poorly or dies
Car may be hard to start or does not restart once it has died
Misfires, lean or rich conditions
Less than normal fuel mileage
Hooks up scan tool and checks for all codes
Looks at freeze frame data for every code found
Clears codes and performs a test drive under similar conditions to the freeze frame dataset which set the original code
Visually inspects all of the components in the cylinder 6 injector circuit
Checks for voltage at the fuel injector with a multimeter set to voltage
Uses the scan tool to look at injector 6 voltage and resistance and compares it to other injectors
Installs a noid light between the fuel injector cylinder 6 and the wiring harness to test pulse width
Performs an ECM test to manufacturer specifics
The fuel injector is the most common cause of P0206, especially on higher mileage 2008 Saturn Vue s. The fuel injector must be fully tested and all steps performed, otherwise incorrect repairs may be made. This leads to unnecessary repairs and loss of time and money. All steps must be followed and none skipped to avoid common mistakes made.
P0206 can cause some concern depending on the symptoms displayed. Care should be taken with driving a car with P0206 and if the engine runs poorly, or has trouble staying running, it should not be driven. Repairs should be made ASAP to get your 2008 Saturn Vue back onto the road and operating as designed.
Vehicles with high milage get a buildup of contamination from gasoline over time. As they age, it is common to see fuel system issues such as P0206. Some fuel system cleaners, such as Seafoam, can help clean out the fuel system, in some cases.
Technicians will use a number of specialty tools when diagnosing P0206, such as a noid light set. These are a quick way to check how long an injector is spraying fuel for (also called âpulse widthâ). Noid lights will be used as part of the process to test the fuel injector itself.
Another tool that will be used is a professional grade scan tool. Professional level scan tools not only list all codes present, they can also show live data on a datastream, which can be used to check for sensors and injectors operating properly.
