Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit
The intake air temperature sensor transmits a signal correlating to the density of the air coming through the intake to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM then uses this signal to adjust injector pulse widths based on the air density signal in order to maintain a proper stoichiometric ratio.
The P0095 code indicates that the ECM has detected a voltage from the intake air temperature sensor that is outside the normal range of acceptance set by the manufacturer.
If no obvious damages are found:
Tests the intake air temperature sensor's reference voltage using the manufacturer's recommended procedure
Compares the voltage against the specifications set by the manufacturer
If the wiring in the system has no damages and the reference voltage of the intake air temperature sensor is outside of specification, the sensor is likely faulty
If everything is within specification, the ECM may have an issue and will need to be checked.
A mistake that could easily be made when diagnosing the P0095 code would be replacing the intake air temperature sensor or Engine Control Module without using the manufacturer's recommended procedure to test them prior to replacement. Any parts replaced without proper diagnosis could lead to a waste of time and money.
Compared to other codes that could exist in your ECM's memory, this code is relatively low on the seriousness scale. It is never recommended to drive your 2008 Saturn Vue for a very long period of time with a Check Engine Light, however this code is one of the few that is likely okay to drive with for a period of time.
Some 2008 Saturn Vue s may have more than one intake air temperature sensor due to the setup of the intake system. If this is the case, ensure that all of them get checked for proper function to avoid a possible misdiagnosis.
