Henry Ford started the company in 1902 with $ 28,000 in cash from twelve investors, among which were John and Horace Dodge, who would later found the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. He was 40 years when he first established the company's first factory on Bagley Street, Detroit.
He would later incorporate the firm on June 16, 1903. Ford Motor Company would go on and label their models chronologically in alfabetical order, starting with the Model A to the Model K and Model S, which was Ford's last right-hand steering vehicle. Then, in 1908 Ford introduced the Model T, which was designed by Childe Harold Wills and two Hungarian immigrants, Joseph A. Galamb and Eugene Farkas. This model proved to be of quintessential Ford vehicle, placing the company among the most influential automotive brands in history.
The Ford Model T was reliable, practical and affordable, which made it a big hit in the US, where it was advertised as the middle-class man's vehicle. The car's success compelled Ford to expand his business and layout the basics of mass production principles in 1913 with the introduction of the world's first vehicle assembly line. By 1912, production figures for the Model T alone reached nearly 200,000 units.
This organizational innovation brought in the vehicle construction field allowed Ford to reduce chassis assembly time by as much as 10 hours, dropping from 12 ½ h to 2h 40 min.
Besides ensuring the efficiency of the production process, Ford turned his company into an interactive entity by announcing a new profit-sharing policy. This would grant buyers a cut of profits if sales reached 300,000. As expected, sales effortlessly reached the 300k threshold and went even further to hit a record 501,000 in 1915.
As part of a new set of financial tactics, Ford provided working places for the disabled who otherwise had a hard time finding a job, reduced work shifts and doubled all employee's salaries. Changes like these sparked a tremendous sales increase while also setting the base of modern working conditions.
Still, the US and Canadian market would prove to be too small to fit Ford's plans. By the mid 20's, the Ford label had crossed the ocean and reached England, France, Germany, Denmark, Austria as well as distant Australia. The company's activity on European grounds further helped the brand's revenue growth.
War would not shake the Ford company as bad as other car makers. Post WWI improvements include the introduction of four-wheel brakes and a series of new vehicle releases to match new consumer demands. In 1922 Ford entered the luxury car segment with the acquisition of the Lincoln Motor Company, named after Abraham Lincoln whom Henry Ford admired.
Ford Motor Co. was one of the few big American corporations to survive the Great Depression, although the plummeting automotive sales led the company to scale down its operations and lay off many workers. In May 1929, Ford Motor Co. signed an agreement with the Soviet Union to provide technical assistance until 1938 to construct an integrated automobile-manufacturing plant at Nizhny Novgorod, in exchange for the Soviets purchasing $ 13 million worth of automobiles and parts. Under this agreement many American engineers and skilled auto workers went in 1932 to work on the Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (GAZ), or Gorki Automotive Plant. The few who remained in the Soviet Union after the completion of the plant fell victims to Stalin's Great Terror, ending either shot or exiled to Soviet gulags.
With the arrival of WWII Ford increased its influence on the global stage becoming an active player in the war effort, a thing underlined by US President Franklin Roosevelt referring to Detroit as the "Arsenal of Democracy." When the US War Department handed production of B-24 Liberator airplanes to Ford, the output rose to 20 airplanes per day instead of only one per day managed by the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation.
After WWII Ford continued its passenger vehicle operations and in 1955 introduced the iconic Thunderbird model. Then it introduced the Edsel brand in 1958, which proved to be a failure and was dissolved in 1960. Part Edsel's failure as an automotive brand resided in the onset of the 1957 recession in the States and the vehicle's high price tag.
Ford Motor Co. managed to get back up from its Edsel failure with the introduction of the Falcon model in 1960 and the Mustang in 1964. The company's next major step was represented by the formation of Ford Europe division in 1967.
Ford plunged into a state of brand-fatigue that would bring the company to the point of near bankruptcy. Following major sales losses in the 2000's, Ford was pinned against the wall by debts and the imminence of closing down.
Preferring to make it back on its own, Ford mortgaged all of its assets in 2006. As of then, the company has releases a variety of new models both under the Ford brand name and the rest of the sub-brands it owns such as fresher and edgier Mercuries and flashier Lincolns, Ford's luxury division. Business in Europe has also been good for Ford, especially after the introduction of the Focus model in 1997 and although it hasn't fully recovered, it's definitely on the way to regaining popularity.
2021 Ford Ranger Consumer Reviews
prudishlydrizzly,
Love this truck-iconic silver is beautiful!!!
Perfect truck, I previously had a 2016 Ford 150 Lariat with only 63,000 miles on it. The truck was getting too hard for my wife to get in and out of due to health issues. This truck is just perfect for her. I have had so many compliments on my 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat-is the best color I have had-especially with detailing on it.
midnightweird,
This may be my sixth ranger and hope it is as good
This vehicle seems to fit all my needs and should serve me well for many years. It has all the options i was looking for.
leaderscab,
Nice truck!
The Ford Ranger Tremor is a great truck! Looks great drives great and can be had at a fair price! If you need a truck and want to still be able to drive in the city and park, this is your best option! It’s size is just right, fits everywhere and yet can still haul and tow like it’s bigger brother, the F150.
reiteratewade,
Love the truck just rides to high,
wish it came with ajustable suspension, or could buy after market lowering kit nothing extreme just a few inches. other then that love it.
But the customer service was the worst I ordered a Bedliner 5 weeks later and still getting the run around, its not right
synthesisgem,
Very nice an comfortable truck!
I decided to go with a smaller truck after having driven full sized trucks pretty much all my life. I am not disappointed. What it doesn't have in the cargo room of my old 1500 it make up for in features. Great truck and it was at a very decent price.
meiosisrocky,
Not best vehicle I've owned
Truck looks great, however not impressed with the building material. Seems very cheap like a cross between metal and plastic. Only had 1 month and already have 3 chips . Paint job seems cheap Not sure the outside mirrors are even glass seem like plastic. Tailgate poor fit.
lyricsdata,
Just what we needed
The truck is meeting all our needs. The leg room in the rear seat is much less that what was available in our previous F-150, but the room in the Ranger is adequate for our needs. Room in the front seat is excellent.
hinnisdalteith,
We are totally impressed with the Ford Ranger
This is our first truck in many years. We have previously owned Jeeps.
We are impressed with the ride and leg room. The salesman and financial dept. were amazing.
noggsboom,
Feels much more solid and like a truck vs Frontier
Very comfortable drive. Feels like a very solid build. I ;like the style inside and out. Four cylinder engine seems to have plenty or power.
keroseneengorge,

romenike,
Love this truck!
I drove a truck three vehicles ago and now I'm back. I have visibility, safety and plenty of room to load plants or lumber or stuff for recycling. And, this one is RED.

New Ford Ranger
I loved the truck. The back seat could be a little roomier but other than that just what I was looking for in a truck.
splurgejohannesburg,
Absolutely love my new truck!

2021 Ford Ranger Tremor - exceeding expectations
I recently purchased my 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor from Five Star. Ford and was a great experience.
Though I’ve only had the truck for less than a week, I am very pleased with the purchase and cannot speak to long term reliability.
If you are thinking about a Tremor and haven’t seen one in person, do it!
The truck drives very well on road, handling the bumps, not bouncing you all over the place.
The Tremor interior is very comfortable and the seats are very nice.
The interior is surprisingly quiet and the 32” tires on the road are well mannered.
The technology and safety features are very impressive. The quality of the truck has exceeded my expectations and is well built.
There are reviews online criticizing the Ranger for a dated interior. I don’t find this compliant valid at any trim. This is a truck, not a Bentley. With that being said everything is well placed and neutral. The dash is not wood or a fancy material other than leather and that is fine for me. Unlike other brands, the interior is not passé.
Lots of bells and whistles and the adaptive cruise control functions extremely well and performs as flawlessly as a high end German car. Nice job Ford.
When shopping, I considered all trims levels and packages and landed on the Lariat. It was really a tough choice as all trim levels and packages have a lot to offer, making the final decision for options challenging.
The window sticker lists the Tremor fuel economy is rated at 19/19, but based on experience so far, I suspect the rating is lower than will be experienced in real world. At this point I am seeing between 21-22mpg. I suspect that will improve as well upon break in.
Overall, quite impressed so far and do not have any regrets.
pulsestreese,
Nice truck
Has all the features one needs. A lot of get up and go with the 4 cylinder turbo looks good too. Off road package is awesome
tuxkent,
Good Truck
This truck has more than enough power and is easy on fuel. Truck runs great and rides decent. Only issue is the braking. The brakes seem sponge and the truck dives when braking. Reading around on the web, this seems to be a common issue. Exterior of the truck looks awesome and interior is basic, but okay. Wish the factory leveling kit wasn't so highly over priced as well as dealer labor
ejectionspinach,
Great styling and comfortable to drive.
Great styling and comfortable to drive. Enjoy the technology features and consider the safety to be excellent. Seating is very comfortable and easy to adjust. Window vision is good.
keystonehubble,
Just a few days old
So far we are very happy with our purchase, just have to get used to the new tech as the vehicle we had was a 99, so far so good.
snakejax,
Great first impression
Other than being smaller and less comfortable for my dog-(100 pound wood who liked to ride in the middle of my F-150 looking out the windshield) it is a very nice ride. The front is very comfortable, works well with my iPhone connected, is zippy when I hit the gas and is a good looking vehicle. The back has some hidden storage but is small for taller passengers, but my kids will fit well at 5’6”. I am amazed by the 7400 pound towing capacity and will no doubt use this with the family camper. So far, I like it.
scantutility,
So far a great small truck
I down sized from a 2018 F150, very impressed with this Rangers 4x4 system works well I'm currently working in the high country of Colorado. The sync 3 and app are outstanding. The 2.3 turbo 4 has amazing power. So far no complaints
uncheckedseasoned,
Great truck!
Very good value for the price. Beats the F-150 in all the measurables that matter. Love the looks and the way it handles. More than I expected.
stararticle,
Like it a lot only complaint .Running board necess
I don’t like the engine turning off. Running board a must for even normal height people getting in and out. Tail gate is lite weight but it seems lose when closed
uncoloredplatform,
Love my new Ranger!!
Flew in from AZ for a 2021 Ranger and I couldnt be happier! Very easy going process, I was explained all the details before I even booked my flight, and was even paid for by Westway! HUGE thank you to Allan Zavala for making sure the entirety of the sale was smooth and to the point. Thanks Allan Zavala
cowsstar,

I'm in love with this Ranger it's absolutely gorgeous inside & out the color is called Cactus grey...everything I wanted in a Lariat...just exceeded my expectations!
courtequivalent,
Great value for the money!
