It's safe to say that all A6 models are swift, with even base 4-cylinder versions hitting the 0-60-mph benchmark in 6.7 seconds. This isn't as quick as a base BMW 5 Series or even an E-Class for that matter, but fast enough for most needs. The supercharged V6 in 3.0 models easily rectifies this, bringing that figure down to 5.1 seconds, while the S6 thrills with a 4.4-second mark. More impressive than outright acceleration is the A6's balance of dynamic handling and compliant manners. This is a car that feels at ease in almost any situation. Helping that factor is the A6's quattro all-wheel-drive system, which we recommend in lieu of the front-drive setup on the least expensive models. If you're not quite up for the high-performance S6, the A6 Competition promises better handling with its stiffer suspension and sport differential.

2018 AUDI S6 If the A6 flies beneath the radar, the S6 dives further still, making this a serious wolf in sheep's clothing. Few will know that under this sedan's stately and conservative exterior is a pulsating 450-horsepower V8 and performance hardware to match. COMFORT SEATING PACKAGE If you want superior coddling behind the wheel, check this option box. In addition to having plusher front seats overall, they'll also feature ventilation (a lifesaver in hot and humid weather) and a massaging feature. We call that "Ahhh"-inspiring.

Audi interiors have long been among our favorites. Like these cars themselves, they're classy, comfortable and tech-forward. Along with supple leather upholstery and intricate trims, the 2018 A6 sedan includes Audi’s MMI infotainment and navigational system that continues to dazzle with some help from Google Maps and Audi’s smartphone interface. While the A6 has yet to receive Audi's Virtual Cockpit, a fully configurable digital dashboard, a screen between the gauges has the ability to relay similar content, including maps. The rear seat is accommodating even for taller adults and offers excellent outward visibility. At over 14 cubic feet, the trunk is well-sized.

The A6’s exterior features some bold elements, such as the recently upgraded headlights, grille, front bumper and LED taillights, but overall the shape and styling remain typically Audi conservative. Viewed from behind, the taillights have a sleek profile and are easy to pick out whenever you’re behind one, day or night. The new Competition Package, available on Premium Plus and Prestige trims, brings a more aggressive tone with black exterior mirror housings, red brake calipers and 20-inch, 5-double-spoke Titanium-matte wheels with summer tires. The 2018 Audi S6 performance sedan looks much like an A6 except for its quad exhaust outlets.

The 2018 Audi A6 comes in three main trims: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. For 2018, the base Premium model comes even better equipped, highlighted by the standard inclusion of Audi's MMI navigation and advance key. Other notable standard features include leather interior, parking sensors and rearview camera, tri-zone climate control, sunroof, heated front seats and 60/40-split folding rear seats. In addition to navigation, the standard infotainment system includes AM/FM/CD audio system and smartphone integration that's CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. Premium Plus trims add blind-spot monitoring, 4-zone climate control, Bose audio system, LED headlights, power-folding side mirrors and power-adjustable steering column.

The top-trim A6 Prestige model includes a standard V6 engine, power-operated trunk, head-up display, the newly standard top-view camera, and rear-window sunshades. Options, many of which are packaged, include driver-assist and safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking. In addition to interior and exterior touches, the Competition Package brings sport suspension and sport rear differential for improved handling. The high-performance Audi S6 includes a V8 engine, upgraded brakes, adaptive air suspension and 12-way-adjustable front seats.

Two engines are available for the A6: a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder good for 252 horsepower or a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that, for 2018, makes the 340 horsepower formerly reserved for Competition models. Base 2018 A6 models are front-wheel drive (FWD) and use a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. We've found that transmission a bit unrefined in other Audi models, all the more reason to spend a little more and get a model with the quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and 8-speed Tiptronic transmission, which provides smoother shifts. The 2018 S6 packs a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that is linked to a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch, but with all-wheel drive.2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (2.0T)252 horsepower @ 5,000-6,000 rpm273 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600-4,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 25/34 mpg (7-speed S tronic automatic, FWD), 22/31 mpg (8-speed automatic, AWD)3.0-liter supercharged V6 (3.0T)340 horsepower @ 5,500-6,500 rpm325 lb-ft of torque @ 2,900-5,300 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 20/29 mpg4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 (S6)450 horsepower @ 5,800-6,400 rpm406 lb-ft of torque @ 1,400-5,700 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/24 mpg

The 2018 Audi S6 has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $ 50,675, including destination. That's a $ 2,100 increase over last year's base price, but the 2018 model carries more content. A base AWD A6 is now $ 52,875, while an A6 3.0T with the supercharged V6 begins at $ 57,475. All in, a 2018 A6 can pass the $ 70,000 mark. The potent Audi S6 starts at $ 72,875 in Premium Plus trim and over $ 75,000 as a Prestige model. For comparison, the 5 Series and E-Class start slightly higher, at around $ 52,000 and $ 53,000, respectively. Cadillac's potential rivals begin higher (CT6) and lower (CTS). Also starting lower are the Jaguar XF, Lexus GS and Volvo S90. Before buying, check the Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their Audi. The A6's resale value is expected to hold up well, though not quite at Lexus' level.

Audi S6 Overview and History

In 2014 the Audi A6 got a mild refresh and along with it so did the S6 and S6 Avant performance versions, models considered as everyday use sportscars by some.
Shower gels and generally beauty-product brands have a way of appealing to customers by thrusting desire through sensorial-related names and presentation of their offers. Olfactory sense-stroking balms and soothing cashmere-touch night cream-approaches are basically the most commonly used methods of conveying beauty and easy customer-access to deeply-rooted sensorial pampering, unless beauty is forged out of steel and thousands of accurately engineered parts.

Automobiles undoubtedly fall into the latter category, and what better way of striking at least one of the remaining three senses if not building an image of a mighty engine roar or purr of a loyal cylinder sextet cradled under the bonnet of an Audi car? Audi translates as 'listen' from latin and besides expressing an unanimously accepted passion of the motorist, that of listening to the engine as if it were a never before heard dissertation on mechanics blended with boisterous 'deux ex machina' comments and demonstrations, it also marks the birth of Audi following Horch's demise, the previous name of the company that can be traced back to 1899.

Its founder, August Horch was forced out of his own company in 1909 due to trademark infringements, 8 years after the first automobile had rolled out the gates of the plant in Zwickau, Germany. After having been dispensed of, Horch started his own company under the same name which led to a fair share of trouble that came to an end as soon as Horch called for a meeting at the apartment of Franz Fikentscher to discuss the matter and come up with a new name for the company. Franz's son who was studying latin at the time was the true deliverer of the name that would later became synonymous with luxury and quality. As 'Horch' means listen in Old German, the boy simply made a switched the name with its latin corespondent, 'audi', sparking enthusiasm into the 'audience' that quickly adopted the name.

Audi's start o the German market was high lighted by the appearance of 2.6 liter engine powered vehicles followed by a series of more powerful ones, such as 4.7 L and the gas-gulping 5.7 L. Having gotten to see his company grow wings, Horch left in in 1920, four years before Audi's first 6 cylinder model was built. In 19128, Audi was acquired By Jorgen Rasmussen, owner of rival company DKW.

A few years later, a merger between Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer occurred and thus, the Auto Union was formed in 1932. Those times called for a new badge and the four interlocked rings were born as a sign of unity and identity of the newly formed auto-conglomerate. Technological improvement became a top priority that first took shape during the Second World War when an armored car was produced for the German Army.

However, all the progress would soon be severely slowed down and even halted at times due to heavy bombings. Moreover, as as soon as the conflict had come to an end, Zwickau had been caught in the soviet occupation zone that would become The German Democratic Republic in 1949. Not only that the company's activity was in jeopardy but the Auto Union had also broken up and the Union had to be restarted n new grounds, in Ingolstadt, Bavaria.

Though sluggish at first, the newly Ingolstadt based factory would attract many of the former workers and the construction of two-stroke engines would be resumed in a way similar to that of Zwickau. By 1958, Daimler-Benz had already acquired a whopping 87% of the Auto Union but its investment quickly became property of Volkswagen, the company having bought the factory and  and the brands in 1964.

Soon after the change of ownership, two-stroke engines would be eliminated in favor of the more popular and more customer appealing four-stroke ones. DKW, the leading brand of the Union at the time failed as a brand despite of the changes  it had made and Volkswagen decided to resurrect Audi. The former DKW built model was rebranded as an Audi one and was the springboard for the make of later models such as the 60, 75 and 80.

After a second merger with the Stuttgart based car-producer NSU by 1970, Audi established itself as a reliable growing brand that would later break the German boundaries and expand to new markets, including the North American one where it encountered difficulties following the release of a biased report that portrayed the car as suffering form 'unintended acceleration'. This was caused by the close placement of the brake and acceleration pedals, right next to each other. Shortly after the report was released , an abrupt decline in sales was registered that was countered only years later with the 1996 release of the A4 model.

Joining a row of successful car-producers, Audi has also garnered acclaim on the racing track with several World Record holdings, including one for Top Speed Endurance. Audi is currently enjoying a privileged position and large market share and is predicted to reach the production threshold of 1 million units by the end of this year.

"Freakishly quick. The v8 is truly remarkable."
I love the subtlety of the car: no flashy and pretty lights inside and out. No bling! But what truly won me over was interior design and exhaust note. The v8 is just intoxicating and the interior is ultra modern. The only downside to this vehicle is that it's not meant to be driven in the inner city; this car is built to devour highways. And it does so easily. I traded in my Acura TL (which was underwhelming with respect to power) for the S6. The s6 is worth every penny. The car is roomy and offers a quiet ride. The quilted red diamond stitched seats are nice. They give the car a race-car look without compromising it's sleeper status. Overall, it's a great engineering work. Many have complained about weight, but the power generated by this car makes that a non issue. Anyone on the fence about this car, I say go for it.

"Best car I have ever owned"
The S6 is very fast, comfortable and the quality of the car is excellent. I have owned front wheel drive cars and rear wheel drive cars. This S6 is my first all wheel drive car. I will never own another front or rear wheel drive car again.

"It's worth every dollar! Best v.8 ever!"
Before purchasing this car just over a week ago, I did extensive research--car and driver, YouTube videos, and googled countless blogs--to find out what car enthusiasts were saying. But not until I sat in this car and floor the accelerator and then my face lit up with joy and (somewhat fear of being ticketed every city block). What I truly like about this car, besides the growl from the twin turbo v.8, is it's sheer simplicity; it doesn't scream AMG.. or BMW M5, 6, 7, or 8. No bells or whistles. It simply flies under the radar--No attention needed here. It makes the perfect sleeper car. The Quattro system and the position of the engine makes it feel weighty, BUT, this car moves as easy as you and I breathe. From a standstill, this car takes your breath away. Again, it's not that the car doesn't have it's flaws, such as the weight or it's somewhat dated exterior design. But with all it's flaws, they pale in comparison to what this car can and does deliver--freakishly quick, stealthy, luxurious, and a wonderful daily driver. Audi seems to have the cockpit design down to perfection. Maybe the MB and the new M series come close. If you are on the fence, i say get off and buy. I traded in my 2012 Acura.Read less
