How do I replace the 2016 Ford Explorer water pump?

Replacing the water pump in a 2016 ford explorer is a very complicated procedure that should not be done by someone without a good amount of experience. to replace the pump you will need to remove the upper intake manifold and valve covers. after that you will need to access the engine through the passenger side wheel well so you can remove the crankshaft pulley. once you have the pulley off you will need to remove an engine mount so that you can remove the timing chain cover, which is very very easy to break if you pry in the wrong place with too much force. when reassembling the engine care must be taken to seal the timing chain cover properly or you will have an oil leak that requires you to remove everything again to fix. the next thing you need to do is remove the timing chain and the tensioner. at this point you have access to the water pump which can be removed and replaced. to complete the reassembly you will need to use a special tool to set the timing, this tool will be different based on your engine size so you will need to research and acquire that before you can put everything back together. while you are in the engine this deep it is almost a no brainer to replace the timing chain and tensioners at the same time. you will also need a new valve cover seal and various gaskets for the manifold and water pump
