Common Problems, Issues, Recalls, and Reliability

  • Engine May Not Start at Times

The anti-theft system may cause a no start condition due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) affecting the wireless control module (WCM). There is an updated WCM to correct this issue.

  • Automatic Transmission May Have Shifting Problems

The automatic transmission can develop problems like erratic shifting, rough shifting, or delayed gear engagement. Repairs for many of these problems are outlined in service bulletins.

  • Knocking Noise From the AC Compressor

A knocking sound my be heard from the engine at times with the air conditioning on. The cause could be the AC compressor itself, if that is the case there is an updated AC compressor to correct this issue.

  • Dodge issues recall on connector for cooling fan motor

To inspect a connector for the cooling fan motor , Dodge issued a safety recall. Coolant may be drawn into the connector, causing a short circuit and potentially an engine fire. Dealers are installing a revised wiring harness and replacing any damaged fan motors.

  • Sensor Failure Inside Distributor May Cause Stalling/Starting Issues

Sensor failure inside the distributor can cause intermittent stalling or a failure to start. In addition, the wires to the distributor are susceptible to internal damage, which can cause the same symptoms.

  • Wet Carpet Due to Plugged Evaporator Drain

The carpet under the right side of the dash may become wet with water. This can be caused by the AC evaporator drain being plugged with debris. Our technicians tell us that once the drain is clear, a cabin air filter should be installed to keep debris out.

  • Radio software upgrades

The radio sound may mute intermittently and/or the temperature display may display a metric (Celsius) reading when the display indicates English (Fahrenheit). Both of these conditions can be corrected by updating the radio software.

  • HVAC Output Temperature Rault

Warm air only may be discharged from the AC system due to a faulty infrared temperature sensor.

  • PCM reflash for various transmission issues

Delayed engagement and/or a bump or shudder between 30-40mph may be noted on vehicles with automatic transmissions . Our technicians tell us that updated Powertrain Control Module software is available to correct these concerns.

  • Failure in Spark Plug Tube Seals May Cause Misfire and Poor Fuel Economy

Spark plug tube seals fail, causing the tubes to fill with engine oil and the engine to misfire. As a result, the engine may run poorly and fuel economy can suffer.

  • Overly Sensitive ESP/Traction Control Activation

Vehicles equipped the ESP/Traction control system can be overly sensitive, activating on tight turns unnecessarily. Our technicians advise us that there is upgraded software available for the Anti-lock Brake control module to correct this concern.

  • Cleaner/Disinfectant Issued to Address Musty Odor in AC System

Some vehicles may develop a musty odor coming from the HVAC system, Dodge has issued a cleaner/disinfectant and a coating for the evaporator designed to inhibit bacterial growth.

  • Clock May Gain Time

The clock may gain time periodically, upgrading the wireless control module (WCM) software should correct this issue.

  • Remote Keyless Entry May Not Work at Times

The remote start or keyless entry system may not function at times. A service repair kit is available which should correct this condition.

  • Check Engine Light With Code P050D

A rough idle may be noted after starting the engine cold, along with illumination of the check engine light with code P050D stored. Our technicians tell us the powertrain control module (PCM) software should be upgraded to correct this concern.

  • Premature brake pad wear due to improperly adjusted brake light switch

If the brake switch light is not properly adjusted, the brakes may be slightly applied when the pedal is not pressed, causing the front brake pads to wear prematurely. Also, the brakes may shudder or become noisy.

  • Foam pad in alarm switch area may prevent random alarm activation

The alarm may activate randomly when the doors, trunk, and hood are all closed. This may happen in windy conditions. Improper height adjustment of the hood can contribute to the problem. The repair involves adding a foam pad to the alarm switch area.

  • Failed door ajar switch due to corrosion

Corrosion on the door ajar switch can cause the door ajar warning light and dome light to work intermittently or not at all. A new switch (and possibly a new connector) will be needed to fix the issue.
