Common Problems, Issues, Recalls, and Reliability

  • Charging system may stop working due to fuseable link

The 80 amp fusible link for the charging system can fail and is often overlooked when diagnosing a charging system that is not working. Our technicians recommend to make sure this fusible link is OK before replacing any charging system components.

  • The Clutch May Failure Prematurely

The clutch may fail prematurely or cause a buzzing type noise from the dash area. It has been recommended by some that a high quality aftermarket replacement clutch may provide increased longevity over a clutch purchased from the dealer.

  • The Sunroof May Become Stuck Closed or Have Difficulty Moving

The sunroof may become stuck in the closed position or require "help" moving forward and backward. The common repair is to replace the guides but often the problem will resurface again.

  • Manual Transmission Shifting Difficulty

The manual transmission may become difficult to shift, this is commonly caused by binding between the synchronizer and the gear surface. Adding a special friction modifier to the manual transmission fluid will often correct this condition. If the problem persists revised synchronizer kits may be available.

  • Rattle Noise From Clutch

A rattle noise may be noted from the clutch area while the car is at idle. If the noise changes or goes away when the clutch is depressed the fault is commonly with the clutch disc springs. It has be reported that a revised clutch disc is available from Mitsubishi to correct this concern.

  • Brake Pedal Pulsation

The brake pedal may pulsate when the brakes are applied. This is most commonly caused by the front brake rotors warping. Resurfacing the affected rotors may correct the problem for the short term but replacement would generally considered a longer term solution.

  • Airbags may not deploy as expected

There have been reports of airbags not deploying in the event of a frontal impact. Some claim that a shorted airbag wire harness can cause this to occur. Unfortunately there is no diagnoses that will isolate this problem other than fault codes stored in the airbag control module. Our technicians recommend to have any airbag light issues diagnosed and repaired in order to help ensure the airbags will deploy when needed.

  • Wheels may easily be bent or damaged

It is not uncommon for wheels on these vehicles to be very easily bent or otherwise damaged, often to the point of requiring replacement. This can happen even with no apparent damage to the tire.

  • Airbag light on due to faulty side airbag module

One or both side airbag modules may fail resulting in illumination of the airbag warning light. Side airbag modules determined to be faulty should be replaced.

  • Corrosion on the fuel filler door

Corrosion may develop on the fuel filler door requiring replacement of the damaged door.

  • Noise or adjusting issue with drivers power seatNoise or adjusting issue

The drivers power seat may not adjust properly or develop a noise issue when adjusting. This is commonly caused by a damaged drive cable which will require replacement.

  • Fluttering type noise from convertible top

Vehicles with convertible tops may develop a fluttering type noise with the windows partially opened. This is commonly caused by the fabric top becoming loose at one of the metal bow supports. Our technicians tell us that the headliner must be lowered to access the retaining strips to tighten them.
