Pump was making a whining noise that would change pitch when the steering wheel was turned. Replaced pump. Would be interested to know more about the above comment on WHY the engine cooling fan may be a contributing factor to this pump failing?

gave out 3-4 months after we bought the car. Now we are having issues with the clutch and the fan.... They wanted 1700 to replace the power steering pump at the dealership even though they know its a common problem. Now I hear the same issues are with the fan and clutch makes me wonder if the Maker of the cars aren't just trying to milk more money out of the mini owners for pieces of crap european cars....

Had to replace the power steering pump and pump cooling fan at approx. 56,000 miles. Also had to replace the cooling fan at the same time. The power steering pump fan and the cooling fan again failed at approx. 82,000 miles. In addition, the clutch for the A/C compressor failed at approx. 57,000 miles. Was seriously considering buying a newer model Mini but I'm not so sure that I want another one!

Battery light came on, twenty minutes later the power steering failed. Have yet to be fixed. My mechanic wants me to call BMW and or Mini dealership in order to request them to fix it considering the recall is on every other model up to the 2006 regardless of this being a recurring issue.
