2011 No Sound from Speakers

The navigation unit in the Kia Optima may suddenly stop playing audio from all speakers. This includes sound from CD players, radio, navigation, satellite radio, and telephone calls. All other features may still function properly.

This fault requires no parts replacement, and is a software glitch that can be rectified by a 'hard reset'.

To perform the hard reset, simply disconnect the vehicles negative battery terminal, wait 15 minutes, and reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Note: this is not my zip code; posting from Edmonton, AB, CanadaI had the same problem (no sound) but looks like radio is working. I took to Kia dealership. They ran diagnostics for a set rate of $ 102 (with tax) and they recommended a new radio. I decided to use Mr. Google to see if others had this problem. And I found this site. I called the dealership and asked if they would try the Hard reset as advised. They did and it worked. However, they advised that this is not recommended and could not guarantee that the radio is not defective. I will take my chances. I think they were just covering up that they did not try this. I have seen another site where someone found it corrected after acquiring a new battery. This makes sense because the old battery needs to be disconnected:)

I took my Optima in the week of Christmas for the engine recall. My car working Perfectly fine. As soon as I sat in my car after work, the radio presets had all gone away, when I started my car all my needles tacked out. Everything seemed ok and work ok, except every morning after that I had to reset my radio again. Just days after my recall the sound went out but I can see everything. The service dept I took it to denies doing anything to my car. They just told me after numerous appts to chk my radio that I needed a new one, only $ 650ish later... I have never heard of a 5 year old car having these kinds of issues especially a Kia, who's reputation is excellent. So after some digging I found this website, I will have my son try this and let you know if this works, If not, then I would like to know how many other 2012 Kia Optima radios have gone out. Thank you Janet

After washing the car after i purchase it a month later i lost all audible everything worked except no sound but after doing every peliminary checks including disconnected the battery i did noticed if you turn off the ignition and turned it back on you could hear a quick buzz from speakers and that was it so i went over to a proffessional stereo shop and they were a little puzzled themself stating the amp got wet we look for it and couldnt find and i was looking for any point water was entering all sealed i said lets let it sit over night and it came back to life well this occured a few more washes and finally that was it i found the amp in the trunck and right obove was the tail light ass. And i could see a small hole were the moisture would enter this is a complete manufacturer design flaw for not sealing the area especially know there is a very delicate electronic component there which id stupid in itself this needed to be mounted in the cabin area protected so aultimitly goes the kia engineering for stupidity the cost of the amp 1300 + tax really wtf rippoff at it finest they should stand behind this given were they located and not sealing the area properly

I have had no sound from my speakers since November 2017. I have repeatedly try pushing the reset button, disconnecting the battery and checking the fuses but nothing has worked. The radio comes on and everything seems to be working except for the fact that I have no sound.

Having the same issue with my 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid. Tried the reset button, checked the fuses, did the hard reset (disconnecting the battery) Nothing worked. Took it to the Kia dealership the said my head unit was done and to replace it it would be 2800 dollars. I just don't understand how my head unit is supposedly done but the radio, cd player, and bluetooth still connect just nothing will come out of the speakers! Im so beyond frustrated. If Kia knows this is a constant issue why wont they help?
