2010 Failure of AC Compressor Clutch

A defective AC compressor clutch assembly can cause excessive noise or vibration when the air conditioning is on. Improved parts are available. Replacing the faulty clutch assembly does not necessitate replacement of the complete AC compressor or evacuation and recharging of the air conditioning system.

I took my 2015 kia optima (4 cylinders, 20000k) for an oil change, they also recommended the cabin air filter, I was ok with the price so they did it for me. That same day my a/c was working perfectly fine. The next morning I turned my a/c on and I noticed that it was blowing hot all the time so I took it back to my mechanic, they told me that it wasn't anything that they did wrong that the problem was my a/c compressor clutch, it was locked up, that my clutch should kick on, spin and stop spinning multiple times when the a/c was turned on from the switch and stop spinning completely when is turned off from the same switch, when the engine was off they also told me that the clutch should be able to turn by hand and mine was totally impossible to turn like that. I'm not a mechanic and I have no idea if they are saying the truth. Can anybody help me please?

This problem started just about the time my warranty expired, of course! Symtoms: 1. a/c takes long to get cold once car initially starts. 2. Only gets cold if engine is running at about 2000 rpms. 3. Compressor makes whining noise.

On long trips, the clutch works and A/C blows cold. On short in town trips, NO A/C!

When the A/C is on and I am shifting gears, as I let out of the clutch and accelerate, an awful high pitched squeaking noise comes from the A/C belt of the car. I am under the impression that it has to do with the compressor but am not yet certain. I've been advised that it could be other smaller problems. However, the compressor is the only one that fits all of my cars "symptoms."Having the A/C on also causes my engine to run harder and with much less power, as well as die if decelerating from a high speed by only pushing in the clutch and sometimes when slowly shifting gears.

My air compressor went out and the car is only 3 years old. When it first started having problems, I told the dealership where I get my maintenance done at and they said if it does it again to bring it back, but unfortunately for me, it started messing up again when I was outside my warranty, so I am now stuck having to get it fixed on my own., which is not fair. I was going to trade the car in and get a newer Kia, but I'm not now because they should of fixed it while I was still in my warranty instead of telling me to bring it back if it does it again.

I was using the heater thought it was the blower motor and it eneded up being the a/c compressor clutch

  • 2010 17,650 Miles
Heat does not work; questionable coolness from A/C. Hear annoying ratttling/ticking noise when turning heat and a/c knobs to change temperature/mode (i.e. a/c or heat).

I brought it in for the air not working at about 58,000 miles (still under warranty) and they said there's nothing wrong with it and some how after they looked at it, it started working. Now at 58,000 it stopped working only blows hot air, like before but now it's not under warranty so it will be a few grand to fix. I don't have that kind of money so I get to drive it in 100+ tempatures...oh at the window broke too so I can't roll it down..great car

Air Conditioner completely stopped blowing until i actually started to drive. I dont know for sure if it kicked it on. but i bought the car in 2011 with 32,000 miles and the AC has always done weird things rattled the car and made sounds it just now messing up.

Makes loud noises when on, especially when turning on the A/C. Sounded like a tentioner or serpentine belt issue at first, which I had replaced. It was squeeking too. Turns out, that wasn't the main problem and the noise got louder after the work was done at the dealer. Then they said it's probably an A/C compressor clutch. Going back in couple of days to get the full details and get it fixed.
