1997 Camshaft Sensor Magnet may Damage Synchronizers

The magnet for the camshaft position sensor may fall out of its mount and damage the synchronizers. This causes long crank times when starting the engine and may cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. If this happens, both the magnets and the synchronizers need to be replaced.

loud squeal noise when starting and accelerating. goes away once warm. about 5 miles.replaced transmission filter, and starter late summer of 2013. also only getting 10 mpg in town. 15mpg on freeway. chk engine light came on early summer of 2013. now its flashing and has been for about 6 months now. transmission seems to be slipping all of a sudden. starts to rattle hard at a stop and on green light as accelerating it will shake as if it is missing until it "catches" then it drives semi smooth in drive . i was told it was needing transmission replacement asap, fuel injector #2, and power steering pump pulley. does this sound right? i dont have any noise when turning, never had, and fluid is full.

Jan 3, 2012 Chirping noise when engine warms up, engine miss above 3000rpm. Shop said camshaft synchronizer bad and had to be replaced. About a year ago significant oil leak onto exhaust, thought it was front oil seal, found out oil pan gasket leaking. I want to know the assembly line person responsible for this!!!

Heard a "clicking" noise from engine which increased at higher RPM's. Mechanic examined engine with Stethoscope and said it was the camshaft sensor. Quoted me $ 275 but I checked online (Repair Pal) and should be in range of $ 100 for parts and labor.

I am going through trial and error on my 99' Ford Taurus. My girlfriend was driving while there was no oil inside of the car. It cut off on her, and now it will not crank. It turns over just fine but doesn't seem to want to catch. What the particular problem maybe is lost to me seeing that my knowledge of automobiles is very limited...

it vibrated and then the engine light flashed and then stayed on running rough. I put an obd 2 reading at home states cylinder 6 misfire. Last month I took the car in for repairs because of illumining engine light, oil leaks, and water pump replacement. All were fixed one month later car running rough again and illuming light on and burns oil with no oil leaks.

I could smell oil and engine ran sluggish. Diagnostic said spark plugs and wires. Took them 1.5 hrs to replace. Ran great for a few days than same as before, oil smell and sluggish. Took it back, now they say camshaft position sensor. Said it would take 3.5 hrs to replace.

Check Engine light goes on and off all the time - have leak like you describe. Have not had a full diagnostics done yet at the Ford dealer but that's the next step. Smaller garages have tried but cannot figure it out so must take it to a Ford dealer. Thanks for the tip!
