2012 Chevrolet Colorado Fuel Level Sensor Failure

The fuel level sensor in the fuel tank may fail causing erratic fuel gauge operation. Our technicians tell us that on high mileage vehicles you may wish to replace the complete fuel pump module assembly if this condition occurs.

Mine did the 1/4 tank running out of gas too- keep a can of gas in back as well. Now the gauge completely stopped working, shows empty on a full tank. apparently need a sending unit?

I have a fuel problem I REPLACE FUEL PUMP AND THE TRUCK WILL RUN GOOD THEN IT STARTS TO ACT UP BY NOT STARTING DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAL WHY

  • 2012 188,170 Miles
Fuel gauge show up as about 1/8 full. Then dies in the middle of roadway. Sounded like there was no gas. Got me a gallon and it fired up. Originally thought that it was the ignition sensor lock not letting the engine start. But apparently it was the sensor. May be best to keep a gallon of fuel in the truck from now on

fuel gauge has been off for over a year and has gradually gotten worse. shows full when I know level is at 1/4 tank or less. have not fixed it yet. should be a recall on this crap

  • 2012 100,000 Miles
Haven't fixed it. Gas Gauge shows empty when full, 1/4 tank when its actually at 3/4 correct at 1/2. You get the gist.

  • 2012 48,000 Miles
fuel gauge will show full then it may show 1/4 tank then it may go back to full just does not show correct amount

  • 2012 130,000 Miles
"Low Fuel" now means NO FUEL! I used to get 30 miles with the low fuel indicator on. Now I am out of gas when the indicator comes on. Is this worth fixing?

April 1st my engine quit and I coasted to a parking spot. Gas Gauge still showed just under 1/4 tank. Towed it in to the dealer and they said I was out of gas. They dropped the tank and replaced the fuel sensor. I got down below a 1/4 tank again a couple of days ago and the engine quit again. I walked 4 miles round trip to get a can of gas and it started right up. Tank was empty again. I took it to the dealer with a full tank and said he could find no problem. Everything checked out okay. Could not repeat the problem. Said to bring it back again if it does it again and it is empty. Presently I am driving around with a can of gas in my car.

Twice my engine on my Colorado has shut down when gauge reaches 1/4 of a tank. I put gas in it and it starts right up. I always reset my trip odometer when I fill up and approximately when it gets low. I have had other flaky electrical bugs with this truck: dash lights flicker now and then(months apart), cruise control may not work once in awhile(months apart), abs light comes on when below freezing, etc, etc. Just hit over 100k on 3-30-2015, so truck still runs despite the Chevy electrical gremlins!!!

truck runs out of gas but gauge shows 1/4 tank has happened 4 time in about 2 months

  • 2012 101,000 Miles
    Erratic fuel gauge readings

i have run out of gas 4 times since new. fuel gauge low level light never came on.

  • 2012 50,000 Miles
Bought this truck used and after driving for 3 days it was showing I only had 1/4 tank left. The next day it showed full. We were told that we needed to change the fuel pump to fix the problem. I hope when we pick it up its fixed

  • 2012 77,000 Miles
    fuel gage stop working

  • 2012 55,000 Miles
Fuel gauge read 1/4 tank left and ran out of gas then read 1/2 tank of gas and ran out, finally read almost 3/4 tank left and ran out of gas... Fuel sensor and installation roughly $ 425.00!

  • 2012 130,265 Miles
needs a complete fuel pump assembly and sensor - the engine light with a random miss fire code is constantly on.

  • 2012 241,000 Miles
Fuel runs out of little bit under a quarter of a tank

  • 2012 137,000 Miles
    Fuel gauge stopped working

  • 2012 80,000 Miles
It's not fixed. If it gets down to 1/4 tank of gas I am stranded on the side of the road!

  • 2012 200,000 Miles
Fuel gauge erratic. Not indicating the actual amount of fuel I have. Gauge needle may even climb far above tank level markings. It also 'jitters' when ignition shut off. I always reset my trip odometer when I fill up. "Low Fuel" warning light still works fine!
