Mechanic says its might be a head gasket but is not for sure. Engine overheated, replaced termistat, water pump, and added coolant still overheating. Looking for a solution on how to repair the problem.

Engine constantly overheats...short and long trips. Replaced the thermostat and the overheating still continues, constantly feed it coolant. I had a diagnostic test performed and I am told that I have blown head gaskets, which can't be replaced without replacing the engine around 7K plus...I have found that the Northstar engine is the problem and GMC doesn't seem to care. The next time their company fails....please don't bail them out!!!!!

I had just bought this car, went on a test drive and did not overheat. After money changed hands driving the car home it run hot on me. Got the car home in my shop I noticed a pin hole in the overflow tank. Replaced the tank and the overheating persisted. I live in a mountainous area, and starting out the car would run for awhile, but when pulling uphill the temp would climb to 230 then 240, if it got any higher I WOULD PULL OVER,and let it cool. I also changed thermostats, upper and lower hoses, checked lines for blockages, made certain the fans run (which my friend the former owner had hot wired to run constant)Bu I removed the wires and the fans were in fact doing what they were supposed to do. Car was giving NO indication of head gasket issues. No coolant in oil, oil in coolant, no white smoke or coolant (sweet)smell out of exhaust. It was only when I started reading about the N* head bolt issues that I decided to take it to a guy that all he works on are these N* engines repairing overheating issues. I had the car shipped to him in Youngstown,OH and for 1500.00 he did the repair. Turned out it was the same issue all the N* overheating issues have turned out to be. The head bolts pulled from the threads on the back head of 3 cylinders causing a separation of the head gasket. He removed all the bolts from both heads and placed time-certs ( kind of like a helicoil of sorts). I am very satisfied with the work he did on my car and he also gave me a one year unlimited mileage warranty. Work was done in October, and I have driven 12,000 miles with no overheating issues. You can check out his web site at www.cadillacdoctor.com . I bought the car cheap (thought I was stealing it) but got what I paid for. With the work done, and having the car transported to Ohio, I have into the car about what it is worth, but love my Caddy so it is not for sale. And especially since the work is done right, I expect to have no other issues with my N* engine.

Car overheats constantly. But before it was parked for 4 months it only overheated with no coolant in the oil.. Now that I've started it the other day it has coolant in the oil. Head gasket blew from sitting there or is it just it was on its way to go?

Car kept over heating on highway due to low coolant levels. Took it intorepair shop many times. changed water pump, clamps and still had same problem.Took car to a different repair shop that ran engine diagnostics andthey gave me the bad news that now there is too much internal damageto the engine to repair. Sadly the car is in mint condition. Uncertain if there is anything to do or just junk the car?

Just bought a gorgeous 2001 Cadillac DeVille with only 64,000 miles this past December and after one month in moderate weather and basic traffic patterns the thing started overheating and I am told it is indeed a head gasket...nobody wants to touch it because of the design problems with the block/bolts...
