Check engine light seems to be related to the gas cap. I clean the gasket on the gas cap and assured tightness and problem went away. Comes back when the wife refills the gas.

  • 2003 120,000 Miles
The "Service Engine Soon" lights ON for a day or weeks, then OFF for a day or two. Replaced spark plugs / wiring, flushed radiator, replaced thermostat sensor and temperature sensor. Problem still exist.

My wife has the same problem on hers, 120,656 miles. I took a pocket knife and carefully removed the rubber gasket inside the cap, wiped the gasket all over with a clean rag, cleaned the inside of the cap with Q-tips, and installed the gasket bottom side up because I noticed there was a groove in the side that made contact with the filler pipe. Next time we drive it should at least have a better seal - and the light should go out.

The first time we had this problem, the dealership fixed it by setting a new cap and coding it to whatever in the car. After a month the problem has occurred again. What do I need to do now?

Check engine light was on for about a year. I had Auto Zone run their diagnostic and bought a new gas cap and had the O2 sensor replaced. This was good until the next time I filled up the gas tank. The check engine light came right back on.
