2002 Buick Park Avenue Fuel Level Sensor Failure

It is common for the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank read the fuel level incorrectly. The sensor must be replaced to correct the condition. Our technicians recommend having the complete fuel pump module replaced on high mileage vehicles.

Affected Model Years

This issue affects Buick Park Avenue model years 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, .

When I turn my gas guage will travel either to the empty position or it will travel the opposite direction to the full position intermitent problem also gives false mileage left on digital readout on dash

  • 2002 84,000 Miles
The fuel gauge will go erratic, going from empty to full, I never can tell how much fuel I have. Every time I fill the tank, I have to reset thr trip odometer so I can track how much fuel I have used/ to go.

Guage ok at greater than 1/4 tank level. Below 1/4 tank level guage was erratic and occasionally would bounce wildly side to side. Tank level needle ended up stuck under empty pin and stopped acting erratically but no level indication until low fuel light illuminated. Miles to empty and low fuel light continued to work almost flawlessly. Replaced fuel tank punp and sender, now need to unstick the gauge needle to have a working fuel tank level gauge again.

Fuel level sensor (Gauge) indicates full tank when tank reaches half full. Has not been fixed, waiting for G M to reconize they have a inherent problem and order a recall. This is a knowned problemb for many years and yet it has not been corrected. This will be the last GM car I will purchase.

i've owned 3 park aves past 10 yrs, a 1999, and 2 2002's. all 3 experienced the gas gauge 'wrong side' issue and both '02's had fuel pressure/regulator problems requiring both fuel pumps to be replaced. only saving grace was that pump in the 02 model yr is located/accessed through the back corner of the trunk and does not require 'dropping the tank' to replace. mi on 2nd 02 pk ave was 125000

THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SWING BACK TO FULL AFTER ABOUT 200 MILES AND THE ONBOARD COMPUTER WOULD SHOW A FULL READING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD LIGHT UP. THE SOLUTION IS TO HAVE SOMEONE SHUT OFF THE LIGHT AND KEEP THE TANK FULL. THIS MEANS FILLUPS AT 2OO MILES RATHER THAN AT 350.LARRYM

Gauge goes to full on 1/4 tank

  • 2002 60,000 Miles
When the fuel level dropped below about 1/3 tank, the fuel gauge would read out sporadically. Sometimes the needle would drop past "E", other times up to "F", and other times quickly flicking between "E" and "F" and anywhere in between, particularly during right hand turns. The fingers on the fuel level sender float gauge had dissolved and had to be replaced using one piece from the ACDelco PT2262 wiring harness kit. To do this, the fuel pump had to be removed, but thankfully there is an access panel in the trunk, so the tank did not have to be dropped.

replaced complete pump and sending unit at 112,150. needle now moves from full about 1/8 inch after about 200 miles and mpg indicator reads about 50 mpg local driving.

Gas gage moves from full to empty to the correct Gage reading

  • 2002 174,000 Miles
Jumps from 'Full' to 'Half' all the time doesn't seem to do it tho when I have a full tank

  • 2002 128,217 Miles
Gas gage reads full when actually its empty

  • 2002 91,000 Miles
Once my fuel gage hits a quarter tank my needle starts going all over the place it will read a quarter tank, then drop to zero, then from zero it will indicate full tank, back down to zero than back up to a quarter tank. It cycles like this until I fill the tank up. I have not got this fixed.
