2006 Acura MDX Check Engine and D4 Lights Flashing

The Acura MDX may develop issues with the automatic transmission .

Rough shifting may occur, and the “D4” light and check engine may begin to blink. The check engine light will also illuminate, and OBD trouble codes P0700 , P0730 , P0740 , P0780 , P1768 and/or P1768 will be stored in the computer.

If the transmission shifts roughly, the failure is very likely mechanical failure of the transmission. If the transmission performs normally, a faulty sensor, or dirty transmission fluid may be the case.

In most cases, it is necessary to use professional diagnostic equipment to provide a diagnosis, and complete the repair.

The longevity of the transmission is dependent on strict adherence to the manufacturer's recommendation for ATF replacement intervals and procedure.

    when we pressed on the accelerator it would slip, causing the engine to race up to 5-6k RPMs. The car revs/shudders on and off up there for a few of seconds before finally catching into gear. Now it no longer catches

    getting this humming/drone noise whenever the car is in 5th gear. The noise starts around 60mph+ either I'm accelerating or letting off the gas the sound is still there. But when I down shift to 4th the noise goes away.

    Fantastic design and build quality. However, there is a very severe problem when trying to merge and having to accelerate quickly. The car stalls and acts like you are using the brakes for a few critical and sometimes fearful seconds before it "kicks in" and starts to accelerate as it should before getting hit by the on-coming traffic. I brought it back to the dealer who checked it out and said that it was working fine and that they couldn't find any problems. Well, there is a problem and I think that Acura knows about it, but won't admit to it in fear that it might affect sales. I'll have to tolerate it for now, but no more Acuras for me ever again.

    I just purchased a 2016 Acura MDX and I know something is wrong with the way it is shifting. I hate this car and there is nothing I can do about it now. I have never had a vehicle be so jerky when pressing on the gas and letting off the gas. Something is definitely wrong with it and the dealer keeps telling me that is just how it is. It goes straight to 3000 RPM's when giving it just a little bit of gas from a stopped position. This cannot be normal!

    Or 2004 Acura MDX transmission failed with no warning light or sensor indicators.Reading Honda dealership refused to assist us with the repair, despite my mentioning that this is a well known faulty part.They stated their refusal to assist was because it was out of warranty; and when we had presented the Acura service bulletin stating that this repair is to be done in and out of warranty, they stood firm that they would not assist us because we had not serviced our vehicle at their "stealership" automotive department. Neither reason was valid, but they also would not allow us to take our vehicle to another garage.They also attempted to insist that we needed to replace our motor because the torque converter shudder vibrations had loosened the motor mounts before breaking the radiator hose and resulting in the damage to our transmission.Transmission+radiator+engine+motor mounts totaled $ 13,000!!!Our Reading Honda dealership receipt stated a warranty repair at $ 0.00 but we were billed $ 4900....?????Although the Acura Service Bulletin stated the torque converter / transmission as a known problem to be fixed at the good will of the dealership, they continuously refused.We paid it, in order to get our vehicle back...6 weeks later!Yes, let us know when a class action lawsuit is in effect. We would be more than willing the help.

    Owned a pre-owned 2007 Mdx. This car is hardly driven only to take the kids to and from school and grocery shopping around town. On 3/26/16, when waiting at a red light, the car wouldn't accelerate and the rpm would just rev. In order for it to go, you would have to shift your gear into park and shift it back to drive for it to go. This is very dangerous especially when you are trying to make a right or left turn to cross an intersection. It can also cause some serious accident if someone is approaching you from behind. Well took it to the dealer and the service dept. told me that we need to fix our transmission. I am not happy that this had happen, this car is not even 10 years old and its less than 100k.

    Transmission failed at 8500. Gears would not shift resulting in high engine RPM. Dealershp replaced whole transmission and then the PCM (powertrain monitoring computer).I am still experiencing minor transmission issues with the new transmission and car is under diagnostics at the dealership.

    My transmission is slipping. I have trouble putting it into gears D5 and Reverse. I'm not mad though because I bought my car from a car auction in February 2013 and it had around 170,000 miles on it. It has ran good without any major maintenance needing to be done. I love my MDX but I can not afford to replace the transmission so I'll just buy another used car.

    Problem with torque conveter cause the car to shudder at 25-40 MPH. Acura denies that it is a common problem with the MDX. The don't see a problem with multiple failures at 75,000 miles. The want $ 5,500 to fix the problem.

    at first started with erratic shifting. did a tranmission flush and shifting got better. problem after transmission flash. it will not shift gears. dealer say it is bad transmission. $ 7000 dollars to repair. i will not another Acura/Honda vehicle.

    We experienced the same transmission failure and despite a clear Acura Service Bulletin and much additional documentation to support this known faulty part, as well as reference of others who had been to the dealership due to the same transmission failure, we incurred much of the expense ourselves. Contact Acura USA in California with your claim. They will assist in some of the expense but they avoid committing to full responsibility knowing this would cause a full recall of the transmissions.
