Common Problems, Issues, Recalls, and Reliability

  • Check Engine Light Due to Gas Cap Issue

    A loose or worn gas cap may cause check engine light to illuminate. At this time, RepairPal cannot confirm a recall for this gas cap issue.

  • DRL Resistor May Fail

    The day time running lights (DRL) resistor may fail causing the daytime running lights to stop working. Our technicians tell us a failed resistor will require replacement.

  • Flush cooling system every 60,000 miles

    GM recommends replacing the engine coolant at 100,000 miles; however, our technicians tell us that the coolant may become contaminated and require a complete cooling system flush every 60,000 to 70,000 miles.

  • Inspect transmission/fluid every 30,000 miles

    You may be able to prevent transmission problems by servicing the transmission and inspecting the fluid every 30,000 miles. If the fluid is dark or burned then the transmission system should be completely flushed .

  • A/C off for Engine Protection and Engine Reads Cold

    Saturn Vue gasoline only models may display the warning message "A/C off for Engine Protection" on the instrument panel. This may be accompanied by illumination of the check engine light and the temperature gauge reading cold at all times. This is a feature of the engine that is activated by the power control module when it detects the engine warming up too slowly. The OBD trouble code P0128 may also be stored.

    The cause is simply a worn out thermostat that stays open at all times, preventing the engine from reaching the proper operating temperature.

    Replacement of the thermostat will correct the issue.

  • Flush brake fluid every 60,000 miles

    Brake fluid can become dirty and may cause problems in the brake system ; it should be flushed every 60,000 miles.

  • Transmission Fault and/or Check Engine Light With Code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and...

    Vehicles with a 6speed automatic transmission may develop one or more of the following faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate inside the transmission: Illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and/or P02723, loss of reverse gear, slipping or harsh 3rd or 5th gear shift. Removal and dis-assembly of the transmission will be required to replace the broken 35R wave plate. It is also extremely important that all debris from the failed part be cleaned from the transmission while it is disassembled in order to try and prevent future problems.
