Rattling noise upon acceleration after warmup. Worse with heavier load or uphill. Thought this was a timing problem, but no OBD codes were thrown and timing advance and retard seems to be operating properly. Glad to find out this potential problem and fix.

FORD BUILT TOUGH ..MY AS*At 117,000 kms. I heard a rattling noise aright. I had a flat bed take my 2008 ranger to the local Ford dealership who reported total engine replacement required. Stated timing chain fell apart and pieces throughout the engine. Love the Ford family feel. Paid off in Sept. month had no vechicle payment in October and November Merry Christmas from your Ford Family. My truck turned to garbage and off to find a new ford engine to put under the Christmas tree. A Christmas to remember and to share with countless others. The unfortunate thing was I LOVED truck but it and the Ford Family dint love me. ..and get this for that total engine diagnosis it only cost me just over $ 400.00

Rattling Timing Chain during cold start and cold engine acceleration around 2500 RPM to 3000 RPM. After the engine is warm no rattling noise can be heard. No codes, no knocking, very little valve noise. I haven't had this diagnosed by a mechanic and I'm getting it fixed soon.

Similar problem, squealing sound , tensioner replaced belt replaced, noise got worse. Turns out it was the bottom balancer, as the two parts seperated.
