It’s possible to drive lots of really good cars and barely remember what each one was like a couple of months down the line. Not many etch an indelible memory of a rich experience, but the Jaguar XF does. In its sportiest S guise, the 380-horsepower supercharged V6 serves up abundant torque and passing power. The 8-speed automatic transmission responds immediately to shifts activated by the paddles on the steering column, but it’s also perfectly capable of finding the right gear at the right time when left in D. The steering inhabits a fine line between luxury-car smoothness and ease, and enthusiast-grade weight and information. The adaptive suspension deals subtly with the bumps and then discourages body lean in tight corners. Selectable drive modes are Normal, Eco, Dynamic and Winter settings. The Dynamic setting’s suspension calibration is especially impressive, but that also means a few rather abrupt gearshifts.
INCONTROL TOUCH PROJust as computer companies update their operating systems, so do car companies with their infotainment setups. Jaguar’s InControl Touch Pro keeps improving. Now standard throughout, it includes an app to control vehicle functions and smartphone-inspired features like gesture control.JAGUAR ELITECAREFor those still a little unsure about Jaguar’s much-improved build quality and reliability, the 2019 XF sedan and XF Sportbrake wagon have 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranties. This package even includes all scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance, as well a 5-year/unlimited-miles warranty for the InControl Remote and Protect feature.
There’s no hint of the wood-paneled gentlemen’s-club atmosphere as in bygone-era Jaguar cars. Instead, the 2019 XF keeps it simple, serene, restrained and elegant. The 10.2-inch infotainment screen dominates the center console, its easily legible icons contributing to the system’s user-friendliness. The driving position is set a little low, ideal for conveying a business-like air as opposed to anodyne transportation. Yet all the seats are still wonderfully comfortable, also providing support when the roads become interesting. Passenger space is generous, as is trunk space, while the Sportbrake offers 69.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.
Walk around the Jaguar XF and it quickly becomes clear that its design works well from any angle. That’s quite an achievement. It gets the proportions right, the short overhangs, long nose and low, sleek roof. The LED accents on the headlights look sharply modern and the whole car exudes a premium air. Nonconformists should also enjoy the Sportbrake wagon version, as it wraps handsome, well-judged shapes around a lot of practicality.
In the newly established Premium entry-level trim, the 2019 XF comes with the least powerful 4-cylinder gasoline engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, dual-zone climate control, simulated-leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with driver’s-side memory settings, power-adjustable steering column, heated side mirrors, self-dimming rearview mirror, drive-mode selection, 10.2-inch infotainment touch screen, and a 380-watt/12-speaker sound system from Meridian (a highly respected brand). For real leather, go up to the next level, Prestige, which also brings 19-inch wheels, heated front seats/steering wheel, and parking sensors at both ends.
Many features that are standard in higher trims are optional in the lower 2019 XF trims. Jaguar used to provide advanced driver aids only in the pricier models, but now things like blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning are available in the most affordable XF. Other options include all-wheel drive, a diesel engine, smartphone integration (although many companies make that standard), ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, quad-zone climate control, head-up display, Wi-Fi, soft-closing doors, power-operated trunk lid, 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and a 17-speaker Meridian audio system.
The least expensive 2019 XF uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful version of this engine is available, making 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Frugal types should investigate the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that generates 180 horsepower and 318 lb-ft of torque, while averaging around 34 mpg. The most Jaguar-like engine, though, is the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that propels S versions of the XF with 380 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. The 4-cylinder engines come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or optional all-wheel drive (AWD); the V6 is linked solely to an AWD system. All versions of the XF have an 8-speed automatic transmission augmented by paddle shifters mounted to the steering column.2.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline-4180 horsepower @ 4,000 rpm318 lb-ft of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 31/42 mpg (RWD), 30/40 mpg (AWD)2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4247 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm269 lb-ft of torque @ 1,200-4,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 25/34 mpg (RWD), 23/33 mpg (AWD)2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4296 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm295 lb-ft of torque @ 1,200-4,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 23/31 mpg (RWD), 22/31 mpg (AWD)3.0-liter supercharged V6380 horsepower @ 6,500 rpm332 lb-ft of torque @ 4,500 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 20/28 mpg (AWD); 18/25 mpg (AWD Sportbrake S)
The rear-drive 2019 Jaguar XF Premium begins with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $ 49,965, to which a $ 995 destination charge is added, making $ 50,960. The 2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake is now available in Prestige trim (last year, it was the pricey S trim only), starting at $ 65,570 and with the more powerful gasoline 4-cylinder engine as standard. The 2019 XF S sedan is priced from $ 68,620. The entry-level Mercedes-Benz E 300 sedan comes in at around $ 54,500; the BMW 530i is in the same ballpark. This information makes the XF look reasonable, but the 2019 Lexus GS starts at about $ 48,000. Jaguar does have one of the best warranties, though. Check the Fair Purchase Price tool to see what others in your area paid for their new XF. Regarding resale values, Jaguars tend not to perform as well as the Germans, while Lexus is top.
It's hard not to fall in love with the 2015 Jaguar XF.
Jaguars are elusive, carnivorous creatures that roam South American rain forests. They can be easily recognized by their distinct black speckled fur with spots larger than those of a leopard or cheetah. Such information would be most welcome in a National Geographic show but we don't work for them. We love animals but cover cars and this is all about the wheeled Jaguar.
A sight not as rare as it used to be, Jaguars appeared in 1922 under a different company name and profile. Founded as the Swallow Sidecar company by William Lyons and William Walmsley, the company later dropped the production of sidecars to take on coach building that would eventually lead to the launch of the first Jaguar automobile in 1932. Until 1945, all Lyons & Walmsley made cars bore the SS initials, a reminder of the company's side-car making roots, when the lettering was dropped because of resemblances to WWII nazi troops labels. Jaguar was picked as the new name.
During the pre-Jaguar period, the company produced multiple models, beautifully styled cars that garnered as much acclaim as they did criticism. Indeed, some voices insisted that Jaguar was more about glam and style rather than pure performance and reliability. Headquartered in Coventry, Great Britan up to this day, the main Jaguar plant dealt more with bodywork design and assembly rather than going through all car-production stage. The engines and chassises were supplied by the Standard Motor Company while the first were later modified to fit Jaguar designs by William Heynes and Harry Weslake, two racing enthusiasts and passionate engine developers.
After having build a number of luxurious saloon cars throughout the 30's, such as the 1932 SS1 and the sporty SS90, Jaguar amazed the automotive industry with the launch of the XK120, the fastest production car at the time. Sporting a 3.4 liter engine capable of delivering some 180 hp, the XK could reach a top sped of over 125 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds. Its sheer performance, affordability and sporty slim oval-shaped grille turned the car into an icon. The Jaguar had finally smiled, displaying a wonderful row of competition-puncturing fangs.
Sparking interest in other countries as well, the XK 120 has enjoyed a great deal of popularity having been built in over 10,000 units and becoming Jaguar's first export model. Upgrades of the 120 followed withe the XK 140 and 150.
During the 50's, Jaguar shifted emphasis on building large saloon cars. The Mk VII was the first of a completely new line-up. Despite having been powered by the acclaimed XK engines, the new vehicles were not as successful. the Mk ii however, a smaller and differently styled saloon proved otherwise, becoming Jaguar's second best selling car at the time, having been produced in some 123,000 units.
By the time the 60's came, Jaguar had already build a strong reputation that was further strengthened with the launch of the ferocious E-type. Officially revealed at the Geneva Auto Show in March 1961, the E-type was the ultimate eye-candy and record breaker. Beautifully styled and incredibly fast, the car could reach an amazing 150 mph. Heir of the C and D-type legacy, the new model was unlike anything the world had seen.
The E-type was more technology improved than its predecessors, sporting an overhead cam engine, four wheel disc brakes and independent rear suspension, features that have turned it into a champ car and racing track nightmare for Ferrari who has lost several times against the British producer.
After having been built in over 70,000 units, production of the E-type ceased in 1975 when it was replaced by the not so successful XJS. William Lyons' retirement in 72' was a blow for the company who could not rise to the standards set by its founder. It was save from bankruptcy by the Leyland company. By 1984, Jaguar bought its way out but failed to make an impressive comeback since it had lost its former appeal. 1989 was the year when Jaguar became part of the Ford Motor Company alongside British Land Rover. Ford's tutelage only lasted until 2008 when Jaguar and Land Rover were sold to Indian group Tata Motors. Jaguar's current line-up consists of luxury sedans such as the XJ models, the executive and fresh XF as a replacement of the S-type, the burgeois X-Type and the sporty XK.

"A driver's car through and through"
It's so much fun to drive. Always looking forward to some canyon carving in this car.
The car has plenty of power. Handles like a sports car. And is ultimately a family car so you can take just about anything you'd like on your trips.
While the upfront cost is high it does have a 5 year warranty and maintenance is included.

"For the Money, a CPO Jag #1"
My only complaint about this car is the comfort of the seats on long trips. On the open road, at 90mph, this car still has an amazing passing gear for a 340 HP car. I average close to 29 MPG at 80 mph on 500+ trips. It uses no oil. The car is much more fun to drive than a Benz E Class or the Audi A6. The warranty and maintenance package kicks everyone else to the curb. I am a hard core car enthusiast and have owned Maserati, Benz, BMW and Acura in addition to Jags. The Maserati QP-S is way better than any car I have ever owned, Jag would come in 2nd (have owned 5), Benz 3rd (E550), and BMW 4th. My next car will be an 5.0 Jag or we will have to look at an Audi with the 4.0 V8. Porsche are nice too but they do not depreciate like Jags, Benz, BMW and Audi and buying any of these cars new is a waste of money
