Among the other changes for this model year, the 2019 Edge loses its naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 option. But the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is easily up to the task, especially now that it has 250 horsepower, five more than in 2018. A new 8-speed automatic transmission is also in the mix. The suspension is forgiving, but still taut enough for quick corners to be enjoyed rather than endured. For more in-depth driving abilities, the ST comes with a turbocharged 335-horsepower V6. Just as ST versions of the Focus and Fiesta were stiffer and sharper -- and gloriously good fun -- the new 2019 Edge ST offers distinct thrills. The Edge ST’s V6 power comes on quickly and is aided by the quick shifts of the 8-speed automatic. Between the grippy tires and the tuned suspension, the high-performance Edge held on nicely during hard cornering, with very little body roll. The brakes held strong and steady while we hustled this 4,000-pound SUV on mountain roads as we slowed for upcoming corners. However, any imperfections on poorly maintained streets come through, and the ride gets rougher. Buyers who choose the ST solely because they want the bigger engine might be disappointed that the ride quality isn’t the same as with the regular Edge.
2.7-LITER ECOBOOST V6 ENGINE Allow us to indulge our inner enthusiast for a moment. The new 2019 Edge ST packs this turbocharged 335-horsepower 2.7-liter V6, which is 20 horsepower more than the 2018 Sport model. And we liked that engine too. With all-wheel drive as standard and an uprated suspension, this fresh V6 turns the Edge into a credible performance-crossover SUV. SYNC 3 INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM It wasn’t always this good, but Sync 3 has evolved into a user-friendly setup. The updates in the 2019 Edge include Ford+Alexa, bringing Amazon’s digital assistant into the cabin. And the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto function now works with the Waze app.
More changes for the 2019 Edge take place in the cabin. A new rotary gear selector frees up enough space in the center console for two new stowage areas. Plus, there’s a wireless-device charging pad that’s optional in the SEL trim, standard in the Titanium model. The previously optional 8-inch touch screen also becomes standard. The ST’s seats have different bolstering and use suede-like inserts. The instrument cluster has an all-digital section that the regular Edge lacks. Otherwise, this year’s cabin comes with the same generous occupant space and cargo area as always. The rear seats enjoy 40.6 inches of legroom, which is great. Luggage space behind those seats measures 39.2 cubic feet. Fold them flat and that expands to 73.4.
The fresh nose on the 2019 Edge livens things up considerably, while housing new standard LED headlights. The LED taillights are also larger, while the liftgate has also been revised. This year brings different designs for the alloy wheels (18-inch rims are standard) and extra color choices; the ST version is available in Performance Blue. The ST has a gloss black grille and matching fog-light surrounds, black bezels in the headlights, and dual-exhaust outlets. The Edge’s basic wide stance remains, however, so care needs to be taken when negotiating tight parking slots and one-car garages. But that does have the upside of providing extra stability to the chassis and plenty of shoulder room for occupants.
Many driver-assistance features are now standard. These come under the umbrella of Ford Co-Pilot360 and include forward-collision mitigation with emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high beams. The rearview camera gets its own little washer jet. Other standard items include satellite radio, rain-sensing wipers, remote start/lock/unlock, Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices, and keyless entry/ignition. Naturally, going up the trim-level ladder means more amenities such as leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, Sync 3 (from SEL up), and a hands-free liftgate.
All-wheel drive is probably the first option for a crossover-SUV buyer (standard in the ST). For extra driver aids, there’s Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adding adaptive cruise control with a stop/go function, lane-centering and evasive-steering assistance. The audio upgrade is a 12-speaker B&O Play system (standard in Titanium and ST). The SEL trim is eligible for a panoramic glass roof, 110-volt power outlet, and heated front seats/steering wheel, while the Titanium is eligible for parking assistance and heated rear seats. ST buyers can also opt for heated/cooled rear seats and upgraded brakes. All versions may be fitted with a dual-screen rear-entertainment setup.
In any 2019 Ford Edge other than the ST, the engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit making 250 horsepower, with an automatic stop/start feature to save fuel when idling. The sporty ST has a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 developing 335 horsepower. Both are linked to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, and the ST version has steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The smaller engine has front-wheel drive (FWD) as its basic setup, with all-wheel drive (AWD) available as an option; the ST has all-wheel drive as standard. The 2019 Edge is rated to tow 3,500 pounds. 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (SE, SEL, Titanium) 250 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm 275 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/29 mpg (FWD), 21/28 mpg (AWD) 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 (ST) 335 horsepower @ 4,750 rpm 380 lb-ft of torque @ 2,750 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 19/26 mpg (AWD)
The 2019 Ford Edge SE has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $ 29,995 plus a destination charge of $ 995, making $ 30,990. The SEL comes in at $ 34,085, the Titanium begins at $ 39,545, and the ST starts at $ 43,350. Adding all-wheel drive to the first three trim levels is an extra $ 1,995, which is relative pricey, while a fully loaded Edge ST can easily exceed $ 50,000. In general, these numbers are similar to the Nissan Murano and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Subaru Outback and Hyundai Santa Fe start at less expensive points. Before buying, check the Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Edge. We anticipate the Edge’s resale value being lower than those of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Subaru Outback.
The Edge is the new model of Ford, which starts in Europe with a new bi-turbo variant that is very fuel efficient.
Henry Ford started the company in 1902 with $ 28,000 in cash from twelve investors, among which were John and Horace Dodge, who would later found the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. He was 40 years when he first established the company's first factory on Bagley Street, Detroit.
He would later incorporate the firm on June 16, 1903. Ford Motor Company would go on and label their models chronologically in alfabetical order, starting with the Model A to the Model K and Model S, which was Ford's last right-hand steering vehicle. Then, in 1908 Ford introduced the Model T, which was designed by Childe Harold Wills and two Hungarian immigrants, Joseph A. Galamb and Eugene Farkas. This model proved to be of quintessential Ford vehicle, placing the company among the most influential automotive brands in history.
The Ford Model T was reliable, practical and affordable, which made it a big hit in the US, where it was advertised as the middle-class man's vehicle. The car's success compelled Ford to expand his business and layout the basics of mass production principles in 1913 with the introduction of the world's first vehicle assembly line. By 1912, production figures for the Model T alone reached nearly 200,000 units.
This organizational innovation brought in the vehicle construction field allowed Ford to reduce chassis assembly time by as much as 10 hours, dropping from 12 ½ h to 2h 40 min.
Besides ensuring the efficiency of the production process, Ford turned his company into an interactive entity by announcing a new profit-sharing policy. This would grant buyers a cut of profits if sales reached 300,000. As expected, sales effortlessly reached the 300k threshold and went even further to hit a record 501,000 in 1915.
As part of a new set of financial tactics, Ford provided working places for the disabled who otherwise had a hard time finding a job, reduced work shifts and doubled all employee's salaries. Changes like these sparked a tremendous sales increase while also setting the base of modern working conditions.
Still, the US and Canadian market would prove to be too small to fit Ford's plans. By the mid 20's, the Ford label had crossed the ocean and reached England, France, Germany, Denmark, Austria as well as distant Australia. The company's activity on European grounds further helped the brand's revenue growth.
War would not shake the Ford company as bad as other car makers. Post WWI improvements include the introduction of four-wheel brakes and a series of new vehicle releases to match new consumer demands. In 1922 Ford entered the luxury car segment with the acquisition of the Lincoln Motor Company, named after Abraham Lincoln whom Henry Ford admired.
Ford Motor Co. was one of the few big American corporations to survive the Great Depression, although the plummeting automotive sales led the company to scale down its operations and lay off many workers. In May 1929, Ford Motor Co. signed an agreement with the Soviet Union to provide technical assistance until 1938 to construct an integrated automobile-manufacturing plant at Nizhny Novgorod, in exchange for the Soviets purchasing $ 13 million worth of automobiles and parts. Under this agreement many American engineers and skilled auto workers went in 1932 to work on the Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (GAZ), or Gorki Automotive Plant. The few who remained in the Soviet Union after the completion of the plant fell victims to Stalin's Great Terror, ending either shot or exiled to Soviet gulags.
With the arrival of WWII Ford increased its influence on the global stage becoming an active player in the war effort, a thing underlined by US President Franklin Roosevelt referring to Detroit as the "Arsenal of Democracy." When the US War Department handed production of B-24 Liberator airplanes to Ford, the output rose to 20 airplanes per day instead of only one per day managed by the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation.
After WWII Ford continued its passenger vehicle operations and in 1955 introduced the iconic Thunderbird model. Then it introduced the Edsel brand in 1958, which proved to be a failure and was dissolved in 1960. Part Edsel's failure as an automotive brand resided in the onset of the 1957 recession in the States and the vehicle's high price tag.
Ford Motor Co. managed to get back up from its Edsel failure with the introduction of the Falcon model in 1960 and the Mustang in 1964. The company's next major step was represented by the formation of Ford Europe division in 1967.
Ford plunged into a state of brand-fatigue that would bring the company to the point of near bankruptcy. Following major sales losses in the 2000's, Ford was pinned against the wall by debts and the imminence of closing down.
Preferring to make it back on its own, Ford mortgaged all of its assets in 2006. As of then, the company has releases a variety of new models both under the Ford brand name and the rest of the sub-brands it owns such as fresher and edgier Mercuries and flashier Lincolns, Ford's luxury division. Business in Europe has also been good for Ford, especially after the introduction of the Focus model in 1997 and although it hasn't fully recovered, it's definitely on the way to regaining popularity.

"Great grocery getter"
Bought the car 3 years ago, haven't had any problems. Handles great, decent gas mileage. Only complaint I have is, the seats are a little hard and uncomfortable for long trips.

"Best car I ever owned"
I Have owned a 2010 and a 2015 Ford Edge and loved both. My son was given the 2015 Edge when it reached 100k miles and has been using it for Uber and doordash and never had any issues with it. We bought a 2019 in Oct of 2018 and got the SEL trim and currently have 13k miles on it never any issues. We live in the mountains of West Virginia and have long drives to get anywhere and rack up miles quickly. The Edge is a safe reliable and good looking vehicle and it gets very good gas mileage if you keep your foot out of it, I average about 31 mpg mainly highway. It is loaded with lots of tech and very comfortable for long trips. My husband is looking to replace his 2016 Subaru Forester as it has transmission issues at 73k miles and is leaning towards a new Edge as well.

"The FUN SUV"
I am reviewing the 2019 Ford Edge ST. However, the Edge styling in general gives this SUV a bit of an "edge" over much of its competition. The ST is just a thrill to drive. Let's face it, this class of vehicle is not your traditional enthusiast automobile. Still, some of us would like a little sizzle with our practicality and a Porsche Macan or other more exotic and no doubt expensive SUV is just not in the cards. The Edge ST fills the bill nicely. It's quick, handles well for a SUV, is comfy, full of tech features, looks elegant instead of racy, and has plenty of room to haul stuff around. I owned a 2018 Honda CRV Touring that was so practical and nice but uninspiring to drive and it was a tad unstable on the highway. It did get great fuel mileage which I have forgone with the Edge. So be it! I love the power and the stability, the responsiveness and the utter confidence it instills in traffic as well as on the open road. The thrill is back and I recommend it highly.Read less
