The 2017 Lincoln MKT is a solid option for consumers shopping for a six- or seven-passenger luxury crossover or wagon. It comes with plenty of upscale features, and its available turbocharged V6 delivers potent acceleration. But the MKT's dated design limits its overall appeal.

Lincoln's MKT is related to the Ford Flex, and both vehicles have been around for many years now without a full redesign. As such, the MKT's cabin doesn't look particularly rich or upscale compared to what you'll find in fresher rivals. The MKT's angled rear window also puts the squeeze on headroom and the amount of gear you can carry behind the seats. Overall, we think you'll be happier with some other rival three-row luxury crossovers, but if you're mainly interested in getting a well-equipped and reasonably priced crossover, the MKT will likely satisfy.

The 2017 Lincoln MKT is a large luxury crossover wagon with three rows of seats. It's offered in two trim levels: MKT and MKT with EcoBoost. Seven-passenger seating is standard, but optional second-row captain's chairs reduce capacity to six. The base MKT has a 3.7-liter V6 (303 horsepower, 278 pound-feet of torque), and the MKT EcoBoost gets a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (365 hp, 350 lb-ft of torque). We like the added power of the EcoBoost, but either way you'll be getting plenty of standard features.

The base MKT, which is front-wheel-drive only, comes with features such as 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, automatic wipers, keyless ignition and entry, remote engine start, a fixed glass sunroof, rear parking sensors, a power liftgate and a rearview camera. Inside, you'll find tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated power front seats, heated 60/40-split folding second-row seats (outboard only), 50/50-split folding third-row seats, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, driver-seat memory settings and retractable manual second-row sunshades. Technology features include the Sync 3 infotainment system, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone app integration, and a 10-speaker sound system.

The MKT EcoBoost trim level is equipped similarly but adds adaptive suspension dampers and standard all-wheel drive.

With the EcoBoost, you can also add extra optional features. We recommend the optional Elite package, which provides a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, power-folding third-row seats (including a tailgate seating feature), a heated steering wheel, a navigation system and a 14-speaker premium audio system. The optional Technology package (available only in combination with the Elite package) includes adaptive cruise control, a forward collision warning system, a lane departure warning/intervention system and an automatic parallel-parking assist system.

Stand-alone options for the EcoBoost model include 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated sliding second-row captain's chairs (reducing capacity from seven to six passengers), a second-row refrigerator console (between the captain's chairs), a panoramic sunroof (power) and a rear-seat entertainment system.

With the potent twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 onboard, Lincoln’s MKT for 2017 has no issues with passing, merging and flat-out balls-to-the-wall acceleration. On the open road, the MKT cruises effortlessly, returning a very comfortable ride, good feedback from the nicely weighted steering and strong brakes. Base trims display a good degree of lean in the curves, but the EcoBoost MKT with all-wheel drive (AWD) includes Lincoln Drive Control, which firms things up considerably. LDC features settings for Sport, Comfort and Normal throttle modes, but we were hard-pressed to feel that much of a difference among them. Lincoln’s excellent 6-speed automatic transmission delivers quick shifts when asked and can be manually controlled via a set of steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Lacking the Infiniti QX60’s 360-degree-style monitor, parking the MKT can be a bit of a chore, which is why we highly recommend opting for the parking sensors and Active Park Assist.

ECOBOOST V6 ENGINE With 365 willing horses on tap, the twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 is the perfect match to the 2017 MKT’s luxury SUV’s size and stature. For an additional $ 4,500 over the base model, the EcoBoost MKT also comes standard with AWD, more luxury features and almost no penalty at the pump. INNOVATIVE INTERIOR Lincoln’s MKT for 2017 may be stylistically awkward on the outside, but its interior is to die for. Handsome seats and door panels complement an easy-to-operate dash and control layout. Options include a 2nd -row console refrigerator and power-folding 3rd-row seats.

The 2017 Lincoln MKT offers a spacious and comfortable interior that's right in line with other large 3-row luxury SUVs. Front- and middle-row passengers get plenty of room, and there's enough room in the third row for smaller adults. Two comfortable captain's chairs replace the 2nd-row bench in 6-passenger models, and they can be heated and cooled, and even outfitted with a refrigerator between them. The large glass gives the driver and front passenger a commanding view, with a touch-screen infotainment system controlling navigation, climate and audio functions. Folding the 2nd- and 3rd-row seatbacks quickly expands the already generous cargo space.

It's surprising to know that the big, bulbous Lincoln MKT shares its structure with the sleek-but-boxy Ford Flex. In its own way this Lincoln SUV is just as eye-catching, although we'll leave it up to you whether it's pleasing or punishing to the eyes. Distinctive features include the massive grille, which splits into two wings and blends into the headlights, and the odd kink-then-droop of the side-window line. The hunched-over rear hatch is somewhat gracelessly bisected by the long, wide taillight display. We do like the panoramic sunroof, and the power hatch is also convenient.

Order even a base-model 2017 Lincoln MKT and you get leather upholstery on the first and second rows, 3-zone climate control, heated and cooled driver and front-passenger seats, heated 2nd-row seats, a rearview camera and a power tailgate. There's also a power tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, which combines with power-adjustable pedals to let drivers find a comfortable driving position. The standard audio system offers 10 speakers and AM/FM/CD/aux inputs, all controlled via the touch-based Sync 3 system and 8-inch screen. EcoBoost models get standard all-wheel drive and Lincoln Drive Control adjustable chassis dynamics, plus other standard equipment.

The 2017 MKT can be loaded up with luxury trim simply by moving up to the EcoBoost-equipped model. Items such as a heated steering wheel, navigation system, THX II audio, and a dual-screen DVD rear-seat entertainment system are all present. Also available are 2nd-row bucket seats and a refrigerator to go between them, a panoramic vista roof and a power-folding third row. One particularly cool tech feature is Lincoln's Active Park Assist, which performs the bulk of parallel parking for the driver. Safety options include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot monitoring system and inflatable seatbelts in the second row.

Standard on the 2017 MKT SUV is a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V6 powering the front wheels (FWD). Its 303 horsepower is adequate for accelerating this heavy SUV, and although it has enough in reserve for passing, it's not particularly exciting. A better choice is the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. With 365 horsepower, 350 lb-ft of torque, and standard AWD, this is the perfect choice for the luxury-equals-power crowd. Both engines come with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode, and although both engines can run on 87-octane gasoline, Lincoln recommends 91 octane for best performance with the EcoBoost model. EcoBoost versions can be equipped to tow up to 4,500 pounds. 3.7-liter V6 303 horsepower @ 6,500 rpm 278 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 16/24 mpg (FWD) 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 365 horsepower @ 5,700 rpm 350 lb-ft of torque @ 1,500-5,250 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: 15/21 mpg (AWD) Note: Due to changes in EPA testing to more effectively reflect real-world conditions, some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel-economy scores than their 2016 versions.

A base-model front-wheel-drive 2017 Lincoln MKT carries a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) tag just under $ 44,500, including destination charges. The extra power of the EcoBoost engine -- and you should spring for it -- will have you paying about $ 4,500 more, but it comes standard with the added safety of all-wheel drive and more luxury features. If you pile on the options you'll top out right around $ 60,000. That's between such luxury SUV models as the Buick Enclave, Infiniti QX60 and Acura MDX on the lower end, and the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 on the high end. Be sure to check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for the MKT. In the long term, we expect the MKT's resale value to be lower than that of its competitors.

Lincoln MKT Overview and History

The second generation MKT crossover has an improved ride, sharper handling, better fuel economy and new safety technologies.
Lincoln sprung as an independent luxury-car producer in 1917. Founded by engineering whiz Henry M. Leland after his departure from Cadillac, which he had helped co-found, the company was named Lincoln as a reminder of the admiration Leland bore for the now defunct state-leader. In a macabre coincidence, president JFK was assassinated just like Abraham Lincoln was. At the time of  his death, JFK was being driven in a Lincoln Continental limousine.

However, before such drama occurred, Lincoln was a fairly small company that supplied Liberty aircraft engines for the Army during WWI. Having teamed up with son Wilfred, Leland converted his factory to manufacturing luxury automobiles right after the war. Despite Leland's skill and potential of his vehicles, the factory encountered several design-related obstacles and financial trouble that could not be overcome. Forced into bankruptcy, Leland sold his company to Ford in 1922 for $ 8 million.

Soon after the Ford takeover, Lincoln's first series of automobiles would enter mass production. Under Ford, Lincoln's styling problems were solved as were the financial issues  experimented before. Little changes or none were made to Leland's original engines. Coupled with production cost cuts, this would allow the company to toll out some 5,500 vehicles in December, 1922.

As of 1923, newer body styles appeared, many of them having been the result of partnerships with coachbuilders such as Fleetwood and Brunn. This lead to the appearance of  a diversified range of vehicles comprised of large sedans and limousines that could accommodate as many as 7 passengers. Despite the fairly big price tags these special coach-built vehicles came with, Lincoln sales did not plummet. They did just the contrary, registering a spectacular 45% increase over the previous years with 7,875 vehicles sold.

The 1924's brought forth the release of the famous Flyers that were extensively used by US Police Departments. The cars premiered some features that weren't introduced on private models until 2 years after. Two wheel disc breaks, weapon racks, armored windows and Police whistles were among the many 'accessories' Flyers came equipped with.

Probably the most famous car ever made by Lincoln sprouted in 1932  Eugene T. “Bob” Gregorie's drawing board. The later release of the Zephyr in 1936 smashed open the gates for the release of the Continental. The latter was actually a modified 1938 Zephyr Coupe whom Gregorie had sectioned and added a vertical tire mount to. The car became so successful that it sold in over 5000 units until production halted in 1948.

However, the Continental would not go down for good. It was later resuscitated  through the Mark II model. By 1955, the Mark II could be purchased for a stunning $ 10,000, as much as a Rolls Royce cost those days.

Later designs, such as the Town Car and the bulky Navigator, aided Lincoln in becoming the best sold luxury car brand in the US by 1998. After a brief change of ownership between 1998 and 2002 when Lincoln belonged to the Premier Automotive Group, the company returned on Ford premises where it can still be found today.

Despite its tradition as a luxury car manufacturer and presidential limousine supplier, the company has experienced a severe setback in the last few years, having lost against Asian and European imports. This is mostly due to the lack of new models, issue that Ford hopes to solve by reinventing the brand. Lincoln's ascension is still unspooling through the release of models such the MKZ and MKX.

I have owned and still have a 2009 Kia amanti it is now 2024 I have 51000 miles on this car excellent handling in all weather except ice and deep snow very fast in traffic I think the handling is tight and responsive. My spouse has driven this on the interstate frequently and the first thing he did was get it up to 220 mph at this speed is floaty but under 80 mph just a pleasure to drive *****
