Essentially an F-150 with a grille kit, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT isn't significantly different from its Ford sibling. Although it has an attractive interior, the Mark LT's upgrades don't justify its price compared to a loaded Ford pickup.

Lincoln's Mark LT is now in its second year and the brand's second attempt at building a luxury pickup truck. A few years ago, Lincoln offered the Blackwood, a luxury-themed pickup that never caught on with consumers due to its minimal utility. Thankfully, the 2007 Mark LT is a more comprehensive package. It can actually be used as a truck, should owners feel so inclined. This usefulness is enhanced this year with a newly available long-bed version.

On the outside, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT's waterfall grille, special trim and flashy wheels make it look a little more upscale than the Ford F-150 on which it's based. At first glance, the interior would seem to be upscale enough to impress most luxury SUV owners, but there is simply too much plastic considering the LT's near $ 50,000 price. Still, the truck is spacious and comfortable. There are also some newly added options for the 2007 model year that put the Mark more in line with vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade EXT. Most notable is the new navigation system, a feature that was previously unavailable.

For better or for worse, the Lincoln Mark LT stays close to its Ford roots. The good news is that it has exceptional ride and handling characteristics, a usable cargo bed and decent towing capacity. The downside is that you can pretty much get the same truck in the less expensive F-150 King Ranch.

As luxury pickups go, there aren't many choices other than the Mark LT, Escalade EXT and Hummer H2 SUT. The EXT is a better truck, but is more expensive by about $ 10,000. The Hummer also costs more, and it's the least practical of the three for day-to-day driving. Overall, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT isn't a bad choice. It's a little light on true luxury but makes up for it by providing workhorse qualities only a handful of luxury SUVs can offer.

The 2007 Lincoln Mark LT is a luxury pickup truck offered in one body style with a slight variation. All Mark LTs are crew cabs and come with a 5.5-foot bed. A larger 6.5-foot bed is newly available for 2007, and both versions are available with two- or four-wheel drive. All Mark LTs come nicely equipped and include such standard exterior features as 18-inch wheels, chrome bumpers and a chrome grille. Inside, the LT comes with leather upholstery, real wood trim, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and two-position driver-seat memory. A 300-watt stereo with an in-dash CD changer and steering-wheel-mounted controls is also standard.

There are several new options for 2007, the most notable being a DVD-based navigation system. A rear-seat entertainment system is offered, as is satellite radio. Many of the Mark LT's options come in large packages, and most of those are designed to enhance the truck's appearance. For example, 20-inch wheels are now available, as are features like "Chocolate Clearcoat" paint, chrome running boards and a monochromatic paint scheme. More practical options include a limited-slip rear axle, park assist, skid plates and more aggressive all-terrain tires.

The 2007 Lincoln Mark LT is offered with just one engine, a 5.4 liter V8 that's good for 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque and is hooked up to a four-speed automatic transmission. With its smooth power delivery, the Ford-sourced V8 is well suited to Lincoln's luxury and has enough torque to give the Mark LT solid towing capability. Its towing capacity is rated at 8,900 pounds.

Antilock disc brakes are standard on all Mark LTs. Unlike some other pickups, the vehicle lacks side airbags and stability control. The NHTSA gives the Mark LT a perfect five-star rating for its crashworthiness in frontal impacts. The IIHS has not crash-tested a Lincoln Mark LT, but the agency did give the mechanically similar Ford F-150 a rating of "Good" (its highest rating) in frontal-offset crash testing.

Despite the Mark LT's powerful V8, the truck isn't really very quick. We recorded a 0-60 mph time of 9.8 seconds, and the big Lincoln got through the quarter-mile in a leisurely 16.9 seconds. However, it has enough torque to handle typical towing jobs with ease. Around town, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT has a remarkably refined ride, and negotiating the mall parking lot is easy thanks to the truck's quick, well-weighted steering. On the other hand, we wish the brake pedal had a firmer, more positive feel.

With wide, accommodating seats the Lincoln Mark LT's interior looks the part of a luxury car. Contrasting piping around the seats give the cabin an extra measure of elegance, while lots of leather and chrome drive the point home. As good as it looks, however, a few seams start to show when you start poking around. Ford's King Ranch trucks have nicer leather and the Lincoln has far too many plastic surfaces for a luxury vehicle in this price range.

For a luxury vehicle capable of towing a very sizeable boat or horse trailer, the Mark LT delivers an acceptably smooth and quiet highway ride. Like many traditional luxury vehicles, however, this heavyweight rides better than it handles. Putting the throttle all the way to the floor won't deliver startling performance, but the powerful V8 and four-speed automatic transmission work well together in delivering smooth acceleration that's more than adequate around town or on a highway cruise. As long as you climb into the cab with an appreciation (and maybe a need) for the Mark LT as a fully functional pickup, you should find it plenty luxurious.

Standard StereoStandard on the Mark LT is an impressive AM/FM/6CD/MP3 sound system that delivers crisp, powerful music through six speakers and a subwoofer.Tailgate Assist The Mark LT's large tailgate features a built-in torsion bar that makes both opening and closing it surprisingly easy.

Upgraded less with wood and more with chrome and leather, the Mark LT's contemporary, stylish and comfortable interior is better described as modern than plush. The sophisticated design rivals the new Cadillac Escalade EXT's cabin, and neat stitching on the leather-covered shift lever is a nice touch (even if it isn't really hand stitched). Whether you find the contrasting piping on the seats stylish or not, you'll appreciate the well-cushioned comfort those seats offer. Rear-seat passengers are also in luck, as full-size rear doors open up to full-size rear legroom.

Start with a Ford F-150 SuperCrew, add a big chrome grille, big taillights, more chrome and nicely-styled 18-inch wheels, and you've got the Mark LT. The five-and-a-half-foot-long cargo bed is deep and wide and should provide plenty of room for the Mark LT's most truck-like tasks, but if you need more room, a six-and-a-half-foot bed is available. The mechanically-assisted tailgate is easy to open and close.

Included as standard on both the two- and four-wheel-drive Mark LT is a 300-horsepower V8, a four-speed automatic transmission, leather seating, ebony wood trim, power and heated front seats with driver's-side memory, easy-lift tailgate, AM/FM/6CD/MP3 premium sound system, Electronic Automatic Temperature Control, electronic message center, remote keyless entry with door keypad and integrated garage opener. Safety equipment includes front airbags and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS).

Upgrading to the four-wheel-drive Mark LT adds only the shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system. Also available are a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, DVD navigation radio, 20-inch chrome wheels, power sliding rear window, power-adjustable pedals, power moonroof and a Reverse Sensing System.

The only powertrain decision to make when purchasing a Mark LT is between two- or four-wheel drive. Although four-wheel-drive costs about $ 3,500 more, the enhanced traction helps to offset the truck's lack of an available stability control system. The Mark LT offers legitimate, truck-like hauling and towing capacities of 1,620 pounds and 8,600 pounds, respectively.5.4-liter V8300 horsepower @5000 rpm365 lb.-ft. of torque @ 3750 rpmEPA city/highway fuel economy: 15/19 (2WD), 15/19 (4WD)

In two-wheel-drive layout, the Mark LT has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $ 38,995, while the four-wheel-drive model is $ 42,095. A fully-loaded Mark LT with the extended bed tops out around $ 52,000. The Cadillac Escalade EXT, the Mark LT's most direct competitor, starts at $ 54,605, but for the extra money the Cadillac includes a more powerful engine, full-time four-wheel drive, folding "Midgate" system, side-impact airbags and stability control. As always, be sure to shop and compare using current prices, which reflect real-world selling prices. In terms of resale value, over a five-year period we expect the Lincoln Mark LT to hold lower residual values than the Cadillac Escalade EXT.

Lincoln Mark LT Overview and History

In production between 2005 and 2008, the Mark LT is a luxury full-size pickup truck powered by a 5.4L V8 electronic injection petrol engine rated at 300 HP and 365.1 lb. ft. of torque. Based on the Ford P2 platform, the Mark LT offered rear-wheel drive, automatic, 4-speed transmission and all round ventilated discs as standard features. Optionally, the Mark LT could be fitted with all-wheel drive.
Lincoln sprung as an independent luxury-car producer in 1917. Founded by engineering whiz Henry M. Leland after his departure from Cadillac, which he had helped co-found, the company was named Lincoln as a reminder of the admiration Leland bore for the now defunct state-leader. In a macabre coincidence, president JFK was assassinated just like Abraham Lincoln was. At the time of  his death, JFK was being driven in a Lincoln Continental limousine.

However, before such drama occurred, Lincoln was a fairly small company that supplied Liberty aircraft engines for the Army during WWI. Having teamed up with son Wilfred, Leland converted his factory to manufacturing luxury automobiles right after the war. Despite Leland's skill and potential of his vehicles, the factory encountered several design-related obstacles and financial trouble that could not be overcome. Forced into bankruptcy, Leland sold his company to Ford in 1922 for $ 8 million.

Soon after the Ford takeover, Lincoln's first series of automobiles would enter mass production. Under Ford, Lincoln's styling problems were solved as were the financial issues  experimented before. Little changes or none were made to Leland's original engines. Coupled with production cost cuts, this would allow the company to toll out some 5,500 vehicles in December, 1922.

As of 1923, newer body styles appeared, many of them having been the result of partnerships with coachbuilders such as Fleetwood and Brunn. This lead to the appearance of  a diversified range of vehicles comprised of large sedans and limousines that could accommodate as many as 7 passengers. Despite the fairly big price tags these special coach-built vehicles came with, Lincoln sales did not plummet. They did just the contrary, registering a spectacular 45% increase over the previous years with 7,875 vehicles sold.

The 1924's brought forth the release of the famous Flyers that were extensively used by US Police Departments. The cars premiered some features that weren't introduced on private models until 2 years after. Two wheel disc breaks, weapon racks, armored windows and Police whistles were among the many 'accessories' Flyers came equipped with.

Probably the most famous car ever made by Lincoln sprouted in 1932  Eugene T. “Bob” Gregorie's drawing board. The later release of the Zephyr in 1936 smashed open the gates for the release of the Continental. The latter was actually a modified 1938 Zephyr Coupe whom Gregorie had sectioned and added a vertical tire mount to. The car became so successful that it sold in over 5000 units until production halted in 1948.

However, the Continental would not go down for good. It was later resuscitated  through the Mark II model. By 1955, the Mark II could be purchased for a stunning $ 10,000, as much as a Rolls Royce cost those days.

Later designs, such as the Town Car and the bulky Navigator, aided Lincoln in becoming the best sold luxury car brand in the US by 1998. After a brief change of ownership between 1998 and 2002 when Lincoln belonged to the Premier Automotive Group, the company returned on Ford premises where it can still be found today.

Despite its tradition as a luxury car manufacturer and presidential limousine supplier, the company has experienced a severe setback in the last few years, having lost against Asian and European imports. This is mostly due to the lack of new models, issue that Ford hopes to solve by reinventing the brand. Lincoln's ascension is still unspooling through the release of models such the MKZ and MKX.

2007 Lincoln Mark LT Consumer Reviews

new 07 mark lt
I decided on the Mark Lt after driving many trucks but always wanting more typical luxury features. I personally do not care that it is based on the 150 as that is a good truck- I view it as a luxury package on that truck. With the monochrome package and everything but rear dvd it is a great driving experience on the road, but the size, for me, makes it difficult for short shopping trips. I had an 05 tacoma that was a great truck but too basic. The looks of it are stellar, the ride height awesome, the luxury features the best available, and to me, ford is the mercedes of the truck category. Buy it if you really like the f-150 but want more luxury features, looks and exclusivity.

Love my 2007 Mark LT
After owning five Ford pickups, the Mark LT seemed the logical "step up". As nice as the Lariat and King Ranch Fords are, Lincoln takes it up another notch. On the open road it is nearly as comfortable as my 2004 Town Car and/or the 2000 Navigator I had before that. I like the fact that it's based on the F150 because it is a tried and proven vehicle yet offers a more luxurious ride than I've had from my previous trucks. It's a definite keeper!

Need to improve the outlook on luxury
I bought this truck because it was dealer used and had only 12,000 miles on it. The truck rides great and seems to have power although I have not towed anything with it. Visually its a beautiful truck, but it has errors that should not be on luxury vehicles. The chrome rocker panels are wavy looking. The drivers seat is already showing signs of tear and wear with only 13,100 miles on it. The shifter feels cheap and the gas mileage is horrendous. 12-13mpg average. The touch screen for the radio and navigation is a pain to scroll through. No rear air controls. The brake dust is comparable to Mercedes and BMW.

Classy Truck
Beautiful truck on the inside and outside. Lots of features including moonroof, navigation, satellite radio, traction control, park assist, and excellent seating with good leg space in front and back. Rides good, looks good and get lot of people who see the exterior and want to see interior. All who look say wow! Nice truck. Driver and passengers have good seats with a good view. Has a four year bumper-to-bumper warranty, 5-year roadside assistance and 70,000 mile powertrain, plus first year maintenance is free. Beats the warranty on most other trucks. Glad I bought my Lincoln Mark LT. Love it!

2006 Lincoln Mark LT
"Best Truck Ever Owned !"
I purchased the LT from the original owner. He is 91. His wife drove it and she passed away 2 years ago. He decided to finally let the truck go. I'm 61 and I have always been a sports car guy and this is only my 3rd truck. I LOVE this truck ! Decent gas mileage with a huge gas tank. Plenty of power and will smoke the tires if you get on it too much. It's more comfortable than the Eldorado I use to own with more legroom and headroom. The styling is the best I've ever seen on a truck. I couldn't be happier. It looks and drives like new.

"2007 Lincoln Mark LT- Gorgeous and Reliable-"
I had to replace my 1998 F-150 that had 189KMI. Looked at the various F-150 variants then I looked at the Mark LT. It has a very refined look with the toughness of the F-150. The seats seemed more comfortable and interior trim refined. Love the super crew 4 doors. All kinds of room. After 75KMI the exterior looks perfect with the exception of the chrome wheels are starting to peel. Interior looks perfect especially the leather. Gas mileage averages around 17.5 MPG. My 98 only averaged 15 with a smaller V8 and only a supercab. Too bad Ford only builds for Mexico.....Bring this truck back to the US.
