Apple carplay was not an available feature at the time when the 2014 kia optima was released. it also missed out by one model year from being eligible for kias expanded free software update. this update was for some of their cars with the uvo3 audio system and compatible nav systems. there are aftermarket radios that have carplay already installed and will allow for the same functionality as the factory units. there are also usb dongles that allow you to connect your apple device to the car audio system. the aftermarket radios range in price from $ 250 to $ 450 while the dongles can be found for around $ 40 each. the radios offer more reliability while being connected to the phones.
The kia offers apple carplay and android auto as free software updates for owners of select 2014-17 models equipped with the uvo3 infotainment system or compatible navigation systems.
