Daughter started heard loud ticking noise. Checked the oil and nothing. Added 3 quarts and bottle of Lucas. It idles ok but raise rpm and it starts ticking again. Sounds like it is coming from the top of engine. What could it be? Valves, lifters, rods, or could the whole thing be shot.

I have been told I need a new engine. So it sits in my driveway for now. It needed an oil change before I went on vaca came home and my sister used it. The next day it sounded so loud like putting a card in the spokes on a bike. I am trying to figure out if it really is the engine??

My son cracked the oil filter housing and drove the car 1.5 miles home. I changed the oil and replaced housing. Now there's a lot of knocking during acceleration and a dull one during deceleration. I sprayed sea foam through the intake, and it's helped a little with the knock, but not much. It had a very low rough idle before all this, and after the foam, it's idling smoothly and quiet at about 750rpm. Purrs like a kitten. After you get in and drive it's a different story. Can anyone help or give me an idea of what needs to be done? Thank you

I've just started to hear a tapping "ticking" noise from the top end of my 2.3 liter. I have decided to fix it all myself. upon removing the spark plugs, I discovered the culprit of my oil consumption, a blown head gasket! In the coming days and possibly weeks (don't have a ton of free time to work on it) I will proceed to remove the cylinder head from the car and plan to replace the head gasket and the hydraulic bucket valve lifters in the process. Hell, I might even have the head ported and polished!! This problem has been explained to me as having faulty/dirty valve lifters - we shall see.

Loud knocking noise and had a misfire it's was the 6th spark plug and coil pack replaced then was told they did a compression test cuz the knocking didn't stop and oil was all over the new spark plug. The compression test showed motor is suppost To hold about 150lbs of compression ad it's only holding 60lbs and it was a problem inside motor now very bad white smoke is going from tailpipes and useing oil bad and smelling burning oil. What could this be a broken oil ring or what??

check intake manifold runner control. use stethescope on engine and intake, if louder on intake then that's the problem. Or disconnect IMRC valve and if it goes away then that's it.
